This is slightly unrelated to the topic but during one of my vacations i went to marbella in spain, and a cafe there had moroccan tea, never had it before and figured i would try since it's fairly close to morocco it should be good, it's the best shit ever, it's been like 10 years and i still randomly think about how good it was. I feel like experiences like these would be very limited to me if i only had 1 week of vacation since it's a fairly long trip from Sweden so i'd wanna stay for more than a few days. I can't imagine only having 1 week either.

I have a new question after reading through the answers, it seems you have predetermined sick days in America, how does that work ? I've seen someone say they got 10 days sick leave, what happens if you catch a really bad cold twice in a year going over those 10 days and say you have no vacation days due to whatever reason, would you be forced to come in anyways ? For context, in Sweden there is no limit "technically" to the amount of sick days, but if you are sick more than 6 times in a calender year you are going to have to have a meeting with your employer to discuss your wellbeing, get medical care involved to check you up, you'll have to have essentially a doctors note from the hospital for future sick days etc etc, if there is nothing wrong with you and you're basically just gaining the system you could lose your job, but that is very far down the road.

Just to add onto this btw, the employers do actually have the right to schedule your vacation for you during the period governed by law, but most employers will absolutely try thier very best to accomodate everyone, but if it doesn't work schedule wise with available work force you could simply just be told when you have your vacation, that can happen, very uncommon, but a possibilty.

Yes there is, the law is you have the right to 4 weeks in the summer, but you can apply for time off whenever, it is very uncommon to get denied outside the vacation period, most employers actually welcome that because it takes a load off of thier planning since they by law have to give you those 4 weeks in the summer if you want them, so it makes it a lot easier schedule wise if a couple employees would rather work through summer anyways and have time off in the winter

You're absolutely right, i worded it badly, we have by law the right to 4 weeks (20 days) consecutively during the summer period (like june to august), we have in total 25 vacation days.

Hi, i'm OP, bank holidays are not included in those 25 days, so for 2025 here there are 13 bank holidays, which would make the total 38 days off this year, however, manny jobs in Sweden will requier you to work bank holidays, you still get compensation for them though, often in form as a time bank so you can place an odd day off here and there throughout the year outside your "main" vacation. So basically all in all this year the average swede will have 38 days off.
