What's the funniest thing you've heard at work?

Exactly - unfortunately I can't speak Welsh fluently so it means the Welsh speakers around me will speak in English so I can understand and join in - since they are used to accommodating other people and not being accommodated then, like you said, they will just assume it's more convenient to not converse in Welsh or go through the effort of getting a Welsh speaker. It's really sad how our language was damaged in such a way & due to the gaps where people didn't regain their Welsh ability, that it still feeds into this eradication. I'm proud to be Welsh but the fact that I can't immerse myself in my language to build up my skills makes me very bitter over that damage - I'm always happy to hear the language being spoken.

Yeah it also annoys me that the bag measurement thing isn't in the same orientation that stowing your bags under your seat would be. I have some bags that do not have inner compartments so the items can move a bit and they will fit under the seat with ample space but due to how gravity works will push out the front of the bag when measured in these things. They say you can't push or manipulate the bag to fit it either but sometimes it's just gravity at play.

How do doctors deal with hypochondriacs?

Unfortunately my mother experiences this after get through her cancer treatment and being given the all clear i feel like she can't live her life again as she is constantly in fear of every little thing being a sign that the cancer is back. It makes me sad that there's not much after care for that and most people believe that the main part of cancer is getting through the treatment and getting the all clear but I've seen another side of it is that it is constantly lurking over people like a bad shadow they can't escape. It makes me sad that people don't see why she has these fears and may label her a complete hypochondriac rather than seeing she is just anxious over going through something terrible all over again.

Thank you so much! Do people carry and bring their own chairs around or is there amble seating to squeeze around into? Oh that's a brilliant idea regarding some of the surrounding fields - I know there's some camping fields nearby so i wonder what the viewing is like by there too as potentially I'll camp a little long if I go for that option! Will you be going in 2026?

Do you know anyone that has never had chicken pox?

I "never had" chicken pox but when I was pregnant they tested for varicella-zoster virus (VZV) IgG antibodies (chicken pox antibodies). Turns out I did have them so they theorised that I may had it where it was mild and had few or no spots so it was never acknowledged. I imagine there may be quite a few who would have the antibodies but no recollection of having chickenpox. I think you may be able to get this tested in general if you want to know for certain. It can cause issues in pregnancy if you get it so that's why they wanted to confirm it but without this I'd have always thought I had never had it and that was confirmed by my family.

What’s something about living in the UK that you didn’t realise was weird until someone from another country pointed it out?

British/Irish politeness - where you have to do the ritual of refusing anything offered to you a few times before you say yes. I dated a Dutch guy and whenever visiting his country they had to ask me if I really meant no or if I was just saying it. In their minds it was more respectful to listen to my first response and not be pushy. They would just answer honestly if they wanted something or not and expected you to as well! It really made me question what was the more polite/respectful interaction! I was curious as to how this started and I came across a theory that it is from when there was a lot of food poverty so hosts would offer food to be polite but it was generally expected that you would say no as it was mainly for appearances so that people kept their pride.

Do you think the average in the UK ( ie average salary) can afford to pay for therapy ( ie 300-400 pounds a month?

If you are able to take the sessions somewhere where you are comfortable and have the set up then you can use the directory to find someone who can facilitate therapy online. I've used the BACP directory and you can use keywords or filter by check boxes for the type of therapy you want and I believe there's a check box for online and even concessionary rates. If you search initially and then press the filter then more options and check boxes should pop up and you might find some cheaper options that are outside your area that can be undertaken online - plus that saves on travel costs as well! I struggle as my therapy is specialist and I benefit more from weekly sessions but it is £80 per session. Once I have gotten to a certain point then i can drop to more "maintenance" frequency but this has meant cutting back on a lot of things.

Ohhhh is it just at home? I've used it because sometimes I need a break from the house and I've stayed in my same city (not a big city! And even down the road) but called it a staycation because I'm not getting out my comfort zone at all!

How do you get an incorrect diagnosis removed from doc notes?

Honestly I think it's so easy for them to put it down so that they cover their ass. I don't think there's a "treatment" with EUPD and it is something where you can no longer meet the criteria for the diagnosis so I think it's a great label for them to use. Basically they don't need to really do anything to help you, they can blame something for the way you are but wash their hands of it and if you get those issues under control then it doesn't contradict their original diagnosis. I'm just shocked that one line can add a label to my records for over a decade and I barely even spoke to that person. :( Have you managed to get anywhere with it?

I had similar for EUPD put down as a diagnosis, which i didn't even know about until I had to request my doctor's notes for a completely separate thing. I couldn't really get them to remove it because I guess they wanted to cover their ass that the treatment or assessment of me after that was based on those decisions but I did get them to review it and mark it as an inactive condition. When I requested my notes it was at the top as an active condition and that's how I found out and I read the initial assessment that caused the diagnosis and it was someone I had met with your less than an hour and never again shortly after attempting to end my life, the discussions seem like clear cut depression to me as I never have an treatment or any further issues where they mentioned EUPD. I had some therapy for SA and nothing has ever come up or been mentioned since so it was a bit of a shock. I would be curious if anyone had any success as it seemed they were very reluctant to admit anyone got things wrong so I basically ask whether I could have my notes reviewed as I don't think what's listed there is accurate for any treatment of me as i had not had any issues and there are no further notes in my medical record relating to this condition for a significant amount of time and therefore indient think it was an accurate reflection of my current state. They reviewed and agreed with me but it will still be listed in my notes but not "active" and that's the best I seemed to do with it.

Friend gave me a cheap knock-off of an item as a replacement for a lost original. How do I address this?!

Posted by MotherTemporary903@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 137 comments

Fool0fShit@reddit

Yup this is solid - you could even say something like "if you are having trouble determining which ones are genuine or fake then I can send some info on where to get the genuine ones or if you don't want that hassle then if you send me the money for a replacement then I can purchase the correct one"

Is saying "Un-alive" instead of "Dead" actually used in normal conversation now?

I wouldn't use replacement words like grape but I do struggle to say the word because it's hard to recognise this word as something that also happened to me. I understand your point but the gravity of the word is what makes it hard for me. It does seem very juvenile though to use a word like grape in place of it which would feel more disrespectful to use.

NHS calling police for a wellness check on an employee. Is this extreme?

Fool0fShit@reddit

Our policy is to get in contact before your shift starts so it does flag up as more of a concern to be no contact whilst not coming in for your shift. Plus if there was no response or communication for hours then there is equally no reason to assume everything is fine and therefore there is a potential wellness issue ongoing. Sometimes emergency contact details are not updated / does the interim manager have access to this info as id expect that they should have utilised this contact first. It has increased since COVID where there is more of a focus for managers to be responsible for the whereabouts of people under their care/management, I don't think it is extreme as your friend should have gotten in touch earlier and it's very hard to understand the right response when you're worried and someone is your responsibility. I don't think it's in a policy to escalate in this manner but it has been spoken about as an option on handling scenarios like this due to wanting to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of our staff.

What’s on your “cheer me up” list?

Posted by Available-Radio5784@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 460 comments

Fool0fShit@reddit

Things that help me is when I make other people smile. If I see someone wearing something cute, I'll tell them how much I like that item or I'll try and do something nice. Just because I'm sad at that moment doesn't mean I can't make someone else's day a little brighter and that in term makes me feel better.
