London Heathrow Airport has submitted plans for a third runway, estimated to cost £49bn. This would involve a 3,500m long runway, new terminals, demolition of Terminals 1 and 3, and the rerouting and expanding of the M25 motorway.

Took criticism for declaring emergency, quit flying shortly after

DentsofRoh@reddit

I ended a PPL lesson once cos it was about my second hour solo cos I had a stuck altimeter. Didn’t declare an emergency, got it on the deck but was a bit shaken. CFI called me a drama queen. I was like 16. Took me about a year to get over that and I very nearly gave up flying.

I was more moaning about the fixation with ‘hypersonic missile’ like hypersonics is some new crazy branch of science that’s not as old as my dad

Pretty sure that was for Kosovo. Yeah they didn’t used to like to forward-position them but they don’t care so much these days since they’re due for replacement soon anyway.

TUI operating USA - DR?

The same as anyone else does. Flights don’t necessarily have to start or end in a home country (or block of, such as in Europe). Google ‘Freedoms of the Air’, although as others have said, the wet lease makes all that kind of moot in this situation.

United filming their brand new A321neo over San Francisco today

Well, my primary reason was the climb rate and range for a smallish efficient airliner but Denver Departures over there seems to disagree. I’m not sure why he’s comparing it to a 20-tonne overgrown business jet that can barely reach San Diego from his airport but hey ho.

That 321neo is an absolute sex machine to fly, both Boeing and Airbus fanbois are going to get upset but I still think it’s the spiritual successor to the 757

Is it just me but I think Aviation hasn't progressed that much in the last 50 or so years

Posted by Brice_Wayne@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 785 comments

DentsofRoh@reddit

It’s not really a zero sum thing but you’d be right if you looked purely at speed and size (to an extent). The thing is speed and size didn’t sell, so they weren’t progressed, efficiency and safety did, so they have, massively.

I do not understand how this was necessary. Isn't it gender neutral by default? Because when we talk about "airmen", you refer to pilots and aircrews, no matter what gender, don't we?

Posted by Mokka111@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 6 comments

DentsofRoh@reddit

Don’t really see why ‘aircrew’ wouldn’t have been an easier change. In general fine with the neutrality tho. Not sure my dicking about at 4000’ on a nice sunny day constitutes a ‘mission’ per se

Creepy Moments While Flying?

Posted by ITrCool@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 89 comments

DentsofRoh@reddit

I got stuck altimeter doing circuits which would really have been nothing had it not been like my 3rd hour solo at 16. Put it on the deck fine but fuck the touch and goes. Swear the CFI implied I was being a bit of a pussy too lol Worse was a glider coming out of the sky above me while I was in a high-winged Cessna and feeling like it missed me by about 25ft (was probably a fair bit more than that).
