It's because you're parents were the smallest generation in modern history, the silent generation. So by extension X is also a smaller shorter generation.

If I was going to ship/travel with a PC I'd take it apart. Cooler off, and GPU removed and in its own box. Anything that could put strain on parts if not handled properly. Would probably leave the ram in but power connectors would be all detached.

The slop I have been eating every day for the last two years.

I'm still rocking a 760 in my old rig. It's mostly used for YouTube these days but it played many older titles decently for a good 10 years although tbf I don't do competitive FPS so frame rate was never an issue for me.

Any real reason to get the 9800x3d instead of the 7800x3d?

Why do I keep seeing people recommend high end CPU's for 4k gaming?

But it wasn't "only" i7s and wasn't only those who overclocked. I'm not bashing Intel, like I said I have a 14700k and am not unhappy with it at all, but the problems were evident right out of the box last year with no overclocking and an oversized AIO.

Major National Security Risk at Pentagon

Because that's a your national security and classified programs kept secret from America's enemies. They can't pass an audit because that would reveal the most highly classified programs keeping Americans safe. That's what Musk is fucking with here, your ability to defend yourself from foreign threats. America has made more than a few enemies over the years. Better hope they don't take it too far, that's a dangerous game to play with a military that currently can't be matched. That might not be the case once Musk is done.

Genuine question here don’t mean to be stupid. Why can’t you hot rod a bunch of crappy old laptops for lots of cheap cpu power?

Posted by Just-a-lump-of-chees@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 172 comments

Commentator-X@reddit

You can do this it's just the application of such a setup requires custom code with limited use cases. You wouldn't be able to run normal programs or games, every program would need to be optimized for parallel processing and some code like games just wouldn't work without a massive overhaul of the codebase, they're just not designed in a way that would benefit from the extra threads. There was a project a while back that took a bunch of raspberry pis and created a cluster that could do certain complex equations but iirc it was only useful for a very limited set of computations.

I think this is a big part of it. They have to assume you're going to fill every plug on that board at some point which starts to add up. Plus they're probably adding 20% too just because you'd never want your psu to be running at 90%+ all the time.

Lost a good offshore person because of a VP's temper tantrum

Depending on how your org works, I'd be emailing my boss cc'ing my boss' boss and his ... All the way up to and including the CIO explaining how much of a loss to the company it is to have to train someone new when the person who was already trained didn't actually do anything wrong besides bruise someones ego. That kind of behavior could cost the company millions down the road if not addressed. Might not go anywhere but at least there's a paper trail of that VP making ridiculous demands and hot headed decisions. But thats only if an email like that isn't going to get myself in hot water, kinda depends on the mgmt structure.

4080 super getting below 60fps in most games even on 1080. Even on lowest settings I still barely stay at 60.

Why do side panels keep just exploding?

Removing them to replace the shower is far easier if you just shatter it and sweep up the glass than spends hours trying to meticulously take it all apart and carry it out of the house.

Why do side panels keep just exploding?

Posted by NAmeIsNotGone@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 244 comments

Commentator-X@reddit

It's the edges that do it. Hit it in the centre and it's tough as nails, tap the edge and it spiderwebs. Corners even more so. And it also happens over time. Micro fractures from a light hit here and there might not break it right away, but over time those micro fractures expand until the whole panel hits a breaking point and just explodes, but again, it's the edges that are far more fragile than the centre of the panel.

We need to deploy a car park app to all staff. The app is available on iOS app store, but is unavailable on Google Play Store. The company instead asks you to download the apk from their site. Is this a risk?

Commentator-X@reddit

Forcing people to turn off their built in android security on their personal device to allow side loading an APK doesn't sound like it would hold up in court. Like if you tried to force it and terminated someone who refused you might be on the hook for wrongful termination.

That was likely your specific mobo causing the issue, not Intel. When you have 4 slots dual channel you cant run as high as just 2 on dual channel. Different mobos have different limits.

You said theres no masd it's because there was no multimillion dollar cannabis corporations. If you're trying to suggest it wasnt widely available and used until recently I've got news for ya. I wasnt alive back then but the 60s were wild, 70s too. I was too young to remember the 80s but I know from experience in the 90s cannabis was widely used and available and not much has changed. There were probably more people drunk and stoned drivers on the road back then compared to now.
