I never said we never opened windows! I just mean when it is deep in the winter in the UK, I had always thought that opening windows = letting cold air in, letting my expensive heating out. We of course open windows regularly, but my question was more specific to when the best time is to do this to avoid losing heat. Previously I had avoided opening them on cold days as I just thought it would make everything colder and even harder to heat. I did say I know it was a stupid question, but I'm not very knowledgeable about this topic so I'm sorry... We have always lived in old properties, so mould was always going to be more of an issue for us anyway. Our last one was a rental and very poorly maintained, so no amount of opening windows was helping. I have now learnt that it will not in fact let as much heat out as I was expecting, and that it wil actually make the air easier to heat.

Thank you - i had always been told it was cheaper to blast the heating whenever you were cold, rather than keep it going for longer at a consistent temperature. I will change my approach!
