We berate, bitch and moan about red tape and complications, but my word, we have order, structure and a general consent on day to day living found rarely elsewhere in the world. Driving, house regs, MOT's, GOV.UK. Our love of order as Brits makes day to day living incredibly straightforward ... in the grand scheme of things lol.

Why is Ford one of the only popular American car makers in the UK?

Posted by Cultural-Elk-8346@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 320 comments

AdPrior1417@reddit

Most US cara suck at being cars in the US, let alone here. Ford took the time to realise that we have totally different needs to Americans. We needed smaller cars, efficient cars, safer cars for pedestrians, lighter cars that handles our roads and being thrown around tight bends. Ford learnt the market, others did not. Also, I jest, a lot of newer-ish American cars are great for America, just many are too big and inefficient.

Mechanical keyboards. I just like solving issues as they come up. I'm finally in a position to buy stuff for life. One week, tools, next week, knitting equipment, following week, floor tiles. I tend to hyperfixate for a few weeks at a time. But currently, mechanical keyboards. I also thoroughly enjoy cable management. Proper routing and planning done well tickled my brain.

This and some nice white noise is the ultimate form of disassociation for me. The word fades away as i sit and think "huh, I wonder why some engineer designed to make that, THAT way". I'll never see most of og what I build in the metal, so I'll settle for scale plastic.

Fair. It's a good alternative to running ethernet through floors and all. Still, it should be standard to have proper ports in all new build rooms for sure.

I'm in the Incredibly fortunate position to love what I do. I design circuits for industrial vehicles, and adore the team I work with. As a biker, what do you think is the main reason behind the lowering number of bikers each year?

Posted by __the_mechanic__@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 277 comments

AdPrior1417@reddit

Cost. Simple as. That and bikers are discriminated against in comparison to car drivers by means of tests (and cost). It has been this way for YEARS, but the cost of living is so extreme now that a bike is just impractical compared to sucking up £1k+ compared to car insurance. Plus all the gear. Bikes are toys and young people can't afford toys as much as before.

Steroid cream didn't work for me unless I used calamine first, I found out after a ling time trying. Steroids just weakened my skin and made things greasy, given how much I sweat. Any other time of the year, hydrocortisone steroid cream is fantastic, been using it when necessary for most of my life.

It's a disgusting practise, not even looking 12 months ahead is a method to ruin a business. Move to the south west, a little further than Bristol. It's a better city to be able to travel in to, than have to travel out of. Bristol is still a good shout in itself, because you can get to the Midlands with relative ease, London and the South weat, and north west, despite the often ludicrous train prices. There's other cities like Bath nearby, that's a big place but on the quieter side, and also a bit more expensive than other towns in the region.b

If the job requires you to have some professional qualifications, or suitable experience, or yools, to meet a given BSI criteria - Get someone else in. Furniture, carpet, some carpentry, decorating, basic plumbing, I will happily do. Gas, electric, or certain plumbing that requires professional work to maintain warranty or standards, not worth thinking about. Then the secondary costs like tooling materials, trade discounts and all that stuff are other reasons to not do something.

Overtakes. People might decide to overtake from a mile back doing outrageous speed, they might not indicate, or they'll drive up 20mph faster than you, right to your bumper, and move at the last second. Might kvertake you before you even leave the slip road... Hardly anyone knows how to overtake safely or cleanly.
