Clarkson's Farm's local councillor quits after receiving death threats from fans

I saw this coming from two seasons away
Gingerpyscho94@reddit
While I'll admit half the council had it out for Jeremy from season one. This was extreme behaviour
Sawmain@reddit
Yeah the counselors are fucking cunts but sending death threats over it ? Cmon.
Born_Grumpie@reddit
We're not sure who these "fans" are, these councillors appear to have been fucking over the entire area as every farmer on the show has complained about them, the show has really bought their cuntiness into the public arena and exposed just what ass hats they are. This is getting common all over the developed world with rich twats moving from cities to rural areas and trying to gentrify them at the expense of the rural farmers that just want to get on with their lives. Here in Australia it's small beach side town that are getting similar treatment.
Snackiecat8@reddit
Found a Clarkson fanboy!
hatlad43@reddit
Not that I support it, I just knew there are people with no life that dumb enough to do this.
smoike@reddit
I know of a couple of youtubers who's partner had to shut down their business. The wife of one in particular had to basically withdraw from the internet along with shutting her (massively successful) business down, all because of stalky idiots that went to their property and got very creepy.
There's always going to be "someone" that screws it up for everyone else.
ClintBeastwood87@reddit
Demo ranch? That happened to his wife's company linc active
SolomonG@reddit
I seriously doubt it was a massively successful business.
If it was they wouldn't have shut it down just because Mere wasn't going to be in his video's anymore. She absolutely could have ran that without being a public figure and the business existing doesn't make it easier for people to find them when it's running out of the same building as Bunker Branding.
It's more likely they relied on the sales bumps from when Mere would show up on Matts videos to tell people there was a sale or new line or something.
Snackiecat8@reddit
Still doesn't make it okay?
mtommygunz@reddit
Yeah no one was buying that crap. That’s how you stop a failing business with a good excuse. It’s almost as if a YouTuber might lie to their audience…
smoike@reddit
That's the one I was thinking of specifically , however I've heard of things like this on and off over the past decade or so.
w1987g@reddit
I remember Matt bringing it up a couple of times and every time I was disturbed that people would do it. His kids kept showing up less and Mere wasn't hanging out with Jenna. The channel, while still good, is missing the chef's kiss since they've left
Davidclabarr@reddit
This is wild. I used to watch them all the time, but haven’t in a little bit and knew nothing about this.
Outside-Advice8203@reddit
Trespassing on a guntubers property is just aiming for a Darwin award
Thirst_Trappist@reddit
Which YouTuber do you speak of?
smoike@reddit
As replied elsewhere, Matt Carriker (Demolition Ranch). He started out as a gun youtuber and then launched a secondary channel to share his life outside of those gun videos.
I'll be honest, I was aware of his gun channel but never really watched it much. Then got onto his renovation series when he bought a house in 2019 that had construction stop in 2005, if not earlier. After then I rarely if ever watched any of his gun content and stayed subscribed to his secondary channel because it was actually quite interesting and varied.
His wife Meredith (referred to as Mere) started a fitness clothing company and along with partially piggybacking on his success, was actually some pretty high quality gear from what I read in reviews. It became it's own success. Then Matt started pulling back from having his family in videos and then four months ago he released a video named "About my Marriage..." (I just double checked it's name) that touches on this at the 6:30 mark, including Linc active being wound down
fezzuk@reddit
Worth thing is I can think of a couple of ytbers to fit this profile.
XecutionerNJ@reddit
Clarkson is a massive asshat and has the editors working for him. Everything we see will be slanted. I wouldn't be certain about anything from the show.
It's entertainment. People need to leave it at that.
hatlad43@reddit
I can also see immediately this will not be a popular view here.
Maybe the slanted view about the local government has a purpose? It's good for drama on TV, sure, but it could be a criticism of how ridiculous the governmental bureaucracy is in general. It's only natural for the general public to criticize the government that's bound by rules they don't make.
Hey, I work in a governmental agency (not in the UK) and I often see some policies we have are ridiculously complicated.
The lawyers/production team is working very diligently here, targeting the village council as a whole, but not any individual of said council. Hoping the council would reflect & improve their work. But sadly of course, it's not so hard for no life potatoes to look up the individuals and terrorize them.
XecutionerNJ@reddit
My point is more that you can't go solely off the show to form a view. Especially not a view strong enough that you send death threats to people.
Whether or not the people are right or wrong is a separate thing.
I just don't think it's healthy for people to believe everything shown to them via Amazon prime.
stupendousman@reddit
Government bureaucracy is both ridiculous and tyrannical.
Hey I don't make the rules, I just enforcement and make your life worse.
*You are responsible for your actions, you can't pass off the ethical burden by saying I was following rules.
How often to government bureaucrats make someone's life better? If they make it worse are they personally liable?
System0verlord@reddit
Bro it’s a farm, not the fucking Nuremberg trials.
stupendousman@reddit
Bro, literally all the democides of the 20th century were carried out by bland bureaucrats.
They live off of your labor. They should knuckle their brow to everyone whose taxes pay them.
But they don't act like that do they? Why, because they rule you you noodle. They're the kings men, you're not.
thatchers_pussy_pump@reddit
For sure there’s a slant. But it’s also true that that town is a shining example of old money British NIMBYism. My friend’s uncle lives there. While an old money Brit, even he recognizes that the absolute stagnant conservatism is problematic.
TerdFurgusons@reddit
I wouldn’t be surprised if there were no threats and this is the councils way of “shooting on their way out”. Lose the war, villainize the victor.
tiny_poomonkey@reddit
You should take with your fellow sub members
Chemical_Run_8758@reddit
$20 says he sent it to himself with a burner account to deflect criticism.
Or maybe he was slightly more sophisticated and hired a 'reputation management firm' to do it for him.
Grimdotdotdot@reddit
Important to remember that we are very much only seeing one side of the story before judging the council.
The_R4ke@reddit
I just don't get why people think that's acceptable behavior.
HEBushido@reddit
The people that do this are chronically online degenerates.

The-Good-Life33@reddit
It's bizarre, but it my boyfriend and I said similar things about these people that I would never say about anyone else Makes and we are peaceful people. You take away his star status and he's a person that puts his pants on, one leg at a time. There was a sense of growing hope and joy around what he was trying to do with the collective of neighboring farmers. Having watched what he has gone through (thanking God he made a lot of money prior to this endeavor with the farm) it was mind-boggling to think -- how are those neighboring farms existing at all? I myself have had a troubling several years that have brought me to place I never thought I'd find myself in but - I found a way to turn my life around and get inspiring work.
Though I am making far less money, my spirit feels satiated and I can see through Jeremy's actions that though he raced Cars and live highlife, he's far happier having a practical life because he has a purpose now. Plus experiences like he's going through build character and help someone who may have a ego larger than life to gain massive empathy where it may have been hard for him to relate to before. Moreover, he seems like an absolutely sensitive guy, so the fact that these local idiotic villagers are judging him says to me that they are small minded, pitiful people that don't deserve to be an imposition to make any decisions that impact of others so drastically. In fact, why are they allowed to make decisions that impact a lot of other people so drastically when in fact, they should be put in place to help one another and help communities grow and keep up with the way that the world works now while maintaining the beauty and existence of the bucolic past. What they are really doing is hurting their fellow villagers, and Mr. Clarkson and all of his loyal friends.
Sometimes, when things go from bad to worse, and down right to the bottom of the barrel people lose hope. And those local farmers -- I cannot imagine how bleak their lives at times.
The council not only let Clarkson, his 'family', and the fans down - they both directly and indirectly hurt the lives of the surrounding farms to Clarkson. Where does the insanity of these people stop? They should be ashamed of themselves. There's no other conclusion to draw other than they are jealous, small minded sheeple living shitty l lives themselves, to the point at which they need to take it out on everyone else.
UnableButterscotch35@reddit
I mean they were worrying about pointless rules because he’s a Celebrity when they should’ve been considering how he’s helped so many of the local farmers - but the fans stalking and finding this man’s name and threatening his life is heartbreaking, majority of councils have group decisions aswell yet he’s received the blunt of it
bgeerdes@reddit
Did idiots really think doing that would help Clarkson? Fact is this will only hurt Clarkson IRL and the TV show.
ImSaneHonest@reddit
Fact is this will only hurt Clarkson IRL and the TV show
I don't think it will do anything to the TV show. Clarkson has already got the show cancelled last I heard.
CCFCLewis@reddit
A new series came out literally 3 days ago
ImSaneHonest@reddit
And the one that just came out was meant to be the last. I'm glad it's not now as good entertaining tv is hard to find.
CCFCLewis@reddit
No, it's not. It never was.
When they announced it was "cancelled", which they went back on, the plan was always to do series 3 and 4.
ImSaneHonest@reddit
Didn't know about 4. Now to see if he lives long enough.
pieter1234569@reddit
Elderly man now having found a purpose in life and moderate exercise....? He's going to live till 90 at the very least.
ImSaneHonest@reddit
Either that or James May builds him a mechanical body and/or Richard Hammond introduces him to black/dark magic.
CCFCLewis@reddit
Maybe don't make statements that you know nothing about?
pieter1234569@reddit
Cancellations aren't about morals at all, and are solely about economics . And the economics side of this is that nothing Clarkson could ever do, would ever result in less fans watching. Only the people that don't watch Clarkson, care about this to begin with.
Proof_Potential3734@reddit
They are currently filming the fourth season.
ImSaneHonest@reddit
That's cool, like most I find it a good watch.
Vanadium_V23@reddit
It's possible that wasn't a fan.
SilentJoe1986@reddit
Yeah, it wasn't just Clarkson that they've been hurting with those rulings. The show just shined a huge spotlight onto what was going on.
SoyMurcielago@reddit
I get the impression from the show (yes it’s entertainment first and foremost but it’s still a little bit of a window into the plight of the UK farmers) that Clarkson is only an antagonist because he has the resources to be but I can completely see them cutting off their nose to spite their face relating to other farmers as well. That may or may not be accurate but that’s the impression I and thousands of others have received, that the town council is a bunch of townies telling other folks what they can do and how they can do it. I’m not sure if it’s more like an expanded HOA or more like “peak Reddit urbanites telling folks who live in BFE that where they live sucks and everyone should live in a city and drive an ev or take public transit” but it’s a very similar energy.
Icretz@reddit
Considering that one of the people on the council had a job in London lol and was not 100% local to the area, just bought a house there. I am all for councils to have things right but in this instance they were malicious against Clarkson for whatever reason.
fatalicus@reddit
If you are talking about the guy in season one or two, when they first where in some meetings about this, that guy wasn't on the council.
He was just someone that had a house in the area and complained about Clarkson's farm.
angevin_alan@reddit

Arcani63@reddit
The UK is absolutely rife with red-tape and plenty of bureaucratic busybodies in power who are all too happy to enforce laws by the letter, and often ignoring the spirit of the law.
Watching Top Gear episodes where they deal with similar stuff as well, like I remember they had an episode with stupid and useless signs. One of the signs said “sign not in use” on it…
There’s a reason there’s a whole meme about UK law that goes “oi mate, you got a loicense for that [insert innocuous thing nobody should need a license for]”
TwOKver@reddit
"You got a loicense for stabbin"?
"Got me loicense roight 'ere".
"Well, sorry mate. Nothing I can do".

frogfoot420@reddit
Labour need to destroy the planning rules and the nimbyism in this country if they get in.
LostInTheVoid_@reddit
biggest problem is Nimby's typically tend to be homeowners of the upper age variety. And as we all know the old vote the most and both parties have to court them with huge benefits to gain their vote when elections roll around. You basically get fucked into a position of having to support the older lot even if you really don't want to because the younger lot don't vote enough percentage wise to make up the difference.
ThisIs_americunt@reddit
I mean you guys have TV licenses still right? XD
Clegko@reddit
Monty Python made fun of this back in 1970, with the Fish License skit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnq96W9jtuw
I can only assume it hasn't gotten better since then.
ricktor67@reddit
You got a permit for that license?
ajh31415@reddit
Oh come on. Clarkson is well known for being an absolute cunt plus he's got a show to produce, so he's going to do everything he can to generate drama, whereas most normal people would work within the rules.
it's laughable how people fall for his bullshit and act like he is a saviour shining light on something bad - he is the bad.
Background_East_4374@reddit
It's possible the letter is entirely fabricated.
TheS4ndm4n@reddit
Could be the stig.
Clegko@reddit
I mean, it's possible. The Stig owns a farm now, too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ADo-9aFDZ4
thunder_rob@reddit
Some say that he can drive a Lamborghini tractor faster than a Gallardo… And that he is both Chipping and Norton All we know is…
OneTime_AtBandCamp@reddit
It's also directly counterproductive in that it's not like morons on the internet are going to get to choose that councillor's replacement. It'll be the constituents of that area who will be even more pissed off. They'll vote for whoever will make the Clarkson's farm go away the fastest.
soulsteela@reddit
Let’s keep in mind we don’t have a functioning mental healthcare system in this country, I would have taken it very seriously, these people are truly deranged and need Largactil or some similar anti psychotic .
SpecialCocker@reddit
The fact that the independent investigator reversed almost every one of the council’s decisions is a good indication that they were in fact corrupt power hungry NIMBYs.
lepobz@reddit

SleepyFox2089@reddit
Maybe don't park like a cunt? If you're having issues with parking attendants, chances are it's your fault.
nlundorf@reddit
They are important. People will park everywhere, blocking everything if there aren't any consequences.
MrRobko@reddit
Not their fault you are too stupid to realize that's not a parking spot.
Meior@reddit
Park like a decent human.
If your city has bad parking policies that is not the fault of attendants.
Nimjask@reddit
On one hand, stop playing the victim. He was clearly crap at his job, making decisions based on personal bias against Clarkson and not based on logic or benefits for the community. Deny him parking permits then moan he's clogging up the roads? Let him put in all the effort to open the restaurant, then close it for no good reason despite the money it brings in? It's been painfully obvious the council's end goal has been obstruction and nothing more. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, absolute tosser.
On the other hand, don't send people death threats for doing their job, no matter how bad they are at it. How is this something that still needs to be said? It's very easy in the age of social media to let the guy see your displeasure without being a psycho and threatening to off him. Clown show all round, all it does is give Clarkson a worse name as unfortunately these nutjobs will get associated with him.
Mia_the_Snowflake@reddit
I just want to say that this guy is using state power to force you to do things, which means in the end that if you don’t comply ppl with literally weapons will force you to do something.
“Doing his job” is quite violent in a position in power and should be treated as common violence.
PassionOk7717@reddit
Believe me, the average councillor wets their pants at the idea of rolling out the red carpet for anyone who seems important. Why do I think someone like Jeremy would break a ton of rules then expect his TV show and public profile meant he could get his way?
He's been shown time and again to be a massive prick. I doubt that's changed.
Nimjask@reddit
Sure, but he's not messing around in expensive supercars anymore. He's a farmer growing produce and wanting to sell it on the premises to locals.
His career as a TV car presenter gave him his reputation, but any councillor worth their salt should be paying more attention to the nature of his business and the benefits it would bring to the wider community.
ACU797@reddit
BS. He's a celebrity using his shop to sell t-shirts, games and some local produce. How many farmers do you know that sell their own autobiography in their own shop? Or T-shirts with the logo of the farm (and a globally succesful tv-show)?
You're saying benefits, but if I lived in that village I also wouldn't want hordes of tourists to come over for a 10 minute stop at 1 shop and then leave.
mad87645@reddit
I grew up in a 1 traffic light town smaller than Chadlington, we would have killed for something that brought as many tourists to the area and sold as much local produce (because make no mistake about it, that stuff is still sold there) as Clarkson's farm even if 90% of the tourists didn't soend money anywhere else. You have no idea how much of a difference it can make for small towns and the farmers in the area to have a reliable stream of money coming in from outside the town.
CCFCLewis@reddit
Which you think would be obvious.
Noone seems to use common sense, and think that people who go to the farm will likely stop off for some food in the pub, probably get a drink in a local shop, etc
skinnyhulk@reddit
Ya know its an odd concept, but he can be BOTH a farmer and a presenter/celebrity.
ACU797@reddit
But he's not. He's the owner and does a ton of labor but the farm is run by Charlie and Kaleb make no mistake about it. Clarkson is still learning the business, that's why this show exists.
jdbolick@reddit
Charlie does literally nothing in terms of actual farm work, while Clarkson does much of it.
jeffsterlive@reddit
Maybe the locals are wrong.
Fancy_Ad2056@reddit

PassionOk7717@reddit
He did it for a TV show.
Arcani63@reddit
I think the problem is that they’re not interested in their community as much as they are interested in the power they wield over its members.
Nimjask@reddit
Unfortunately I think you're right. There's definitely an element of "if we can stick it to Clarkson, we can do it to anyone" power that goes to their heads a bit
stupendousman@reddit
Hey if someone uses the state to threaten you, take control of your property, or worse cage you they're just doing their job.
Recite "just doing my job" and the incantation will magically remove all ethical burdens from you.

This. Don't act surprised by the hate and backlash given the clear bias against Jeremy, but death threats help no one, Jeremy least of all. Hopefully Jeremy puts a statement out condemning it.
Powerful-Tadpole-475@reddit
Some redditors actually think a show for entertainment won't have added drama just for the sake of people's entertainment. Shows are exactly what they mean. It's all for show. Taking everything off of a tv show as literal gospel is not only naive, it then promotes this kind of scummy antics. That's just not cool. Death threats for doing a job? No matter how terrible a person is at their job. Death threats are not only uncalled for but it will actually come back to bite Clarkson. Whoever sent those threats are clearly not the sharpest tools in the shed. If those people had brains, they'd actually be bluddy dangerous. Obsessed fans are the worst.
Fentron3000@reddit
Gotta admit, I had to stop watching the first episode of season 3 as soon as Pepper was loaded up and taken away. Haven’t been able to watch since seeing that, broke my heart.

It just gets more depressing afterwards with the pigs
Fentron3000@reddit
That won’t bother me, Pepper’s just been around for a while. And she missed being slaughtered the first time, so I thought they would continue to keep her around.
DRHAX34@reddit
While I get it, the reality is, a farmer would never have an animal in land that can’t do anything.
Fentron3000@reddit
Oh I know, grew up on a farm. See missed slaughter once, I thought she’d be spared again.

Clarkson’s Farm has nothing to do with Top Gear or The Grand Tour.
Yes Clarkson found his fame on the aforementioned Top Gear, but besides that he was a motoring journalist for the best part of 40 years.
nokaydonit@reddit
Considering what kind of person he is, judging purely from what I've seen in the show which may not be entirely true, I think death threats could be his lie.
From the article
This sounds like he is taking advantage of this situation by exaggerating the negative comments and acting the victim. Anyone can say they have received death threats without providing a proof, and I actually got a dozen death threats for this comment.
Shan_qwerty@reddit
The show doesn't try hard to hide the fact that it's extremely biased towards Clarkson's point of view, painting him as some innocent job creator oppressed by the evil bureaucrats.
twingofemboy55@reddit
Show called "Clarksons Farm" is from Clarksons point of view. Damn that's deep. Maybe we should make a rival show called "Chipping Norton's Council" to show us how much of an asshole he is for wanting to make a carpark

Fydron@reddit
How is it Jeremy's fault if morons can't behave?
super_dog17@reddit
He creates it into an entertainment spectacle for his show to have a more “gripping” plot line so people like the losers in this subreddit who don’t realize Clakrson isn’t actually their friend get even more invested in the show. He stirs up public individuals without giving them all the information; if you think watching Clarkson’s Farm gives anyone a genuine grasp of the situation, well then you know why Clarkson does it. He has always been a master at getting people’s attention and endearing himself to them, I don’t like the council’s rulings against him but it should be pretty clear that putting your local town council on your national tv show as “buffoons and evil local politician” is going to draw unwanted attention from idiots.
Same issues with Top Gear; Clarkson rarely ever sees how he is accountable for his actions and comedically that transfers to a large part of the crowd. It’s pretty reasonable for a town council to tell a local celebrity who just started (poorly) farming recently that they cannot create a number of new, un-zoned additions to their land. He had a literal tourism shop with no parking lot on his land, the council said “no, you can’t do that” and then three seasons later Clarkson is still trying to pull the “but I’m just a poor enterprising farmer?!” Sure the council is being a bit annoying in how they enforce the existing rules but it’s not like Clarkson is A: universally loved for his asshattery and B: approached them to create a reasonable plan. He did what he wanted and now like a petulant child he’s still kicking and screaming about not getting his way because he didn’t check the rules first.
Seeing random idiots online threaten the councilor should have been an obvious outcome and a veteran TV presenter like Clarkson should have recognized the possibility. That having been said he still did it, so I’d wager he knew it and thought it would help him or the show. Clearly an Amazon show’s popularity is far more important than some little dud of a farm shop.
Fydron@reddit
How it's still Clarksons fault if person has no self control?
It's like modern days people always blame everyone but them self and there seems to have no personal responsibility for fuck ups who do stuff its always somebody else's fault.
super_dog17@reddit
No, it’s definitely the direct fault of the person who actually made the death threat, but Clarkson has since Top Gear, lied (stretched the truth, willfully omitted information, etc.) to enflame public sentiment around an issue so that he looks like the “good guy”. I’m of the opinion that Brits are just too slow to recognize it, but regardless of why he gets away with his actions, 90% of his character/gimmick has always been “I’m right and I can’t be told wrong even when staring blatant failure in the face”. It’s literally a comedic bit that they play to in nearly all the TG and GT, so it should my be surprising to anyone that his viewers are the ones who are detached from reality enough to make death threats. Kind of a “they came because you built it” explanation.
He built a farm shop to capitalize on the farm potentially having been a tourist attraction (which it absolutely was), then he created a restaurant in the middle of a field against any idea of zoning laws and finally when the council (that’s clearly had enough of his bs/shenanigans) says “just shut it all down” he acts like some poor farmer who’s just trying to make a buck. I mean clearly he didn’t tell anyone to send the council death threats but did he (or the producers, for that matter) really not think all the theatrics around his actions wouldn’t lead to viewers and fans completely misunderstanding the situation to the point of imagining it ulterior motives? No, it’s his and Wilman’s M.O. to attract attention; kind of hard to imagine why a spoiled rich kid who’s clearly never been told no finally getting his comeuppance with the local council is anything but just deserts.
Feels pretty obvious if you’re willing to not want to polish Clarkson’s knob for 5 seconds. So I don’t understand how it has nothing to do with whatever pseudo-conservative “kids these days” comment you were trying to make?
Fydron@reddit
Well I only talk about my own experience how old dusty guck ups work in rural villages and believe me they don't want anything changed but they sure as hell whine when every shop and every other service leaves the area and the village just dies because nobody wants to live in a place with no shops or services.
Sure clarkson can be a knob but to me the council just reminds me too much of the old morons who basically killed every service in my small town area.
super_dog17@reddit
It baffles me how people see Clarkson doing this and go “gotdammit this council just like my dumb ass town!” Do you lay on straw and wallow in mud like the medieval peasant you present as? How do you know anything about this situation outside of what the show and random tabloids have presented? Do you know someone in Chippy-Norton? Have you heard the opinions of who doesn’t like Clarkson and why? Can you listen to them without prejudice that they “just don’t like Clarkson”?
I’m not arguing small-town councils suck, I get that and I understand the very real basis of the trope. My point is Clarkson and Amazon play up the trope specifically because they need an antagonist for the show (the Clarkson’s farm generally) so they shouldn’t be surprised some whackadoodle has gone and made death threats to public officials. Like honestly, what fucking loser makes their gripes with the town council the center of their Amazon show? He’s done dumb shit and the council doesn’t want to talk to him anymore and somehow they’re the bad guys? Why, because Clarkson “will learn?” You realize that’s the plot of every TG, GT project that Clarkson does right before it fails spectacularly?
If we were getting Instagram updates I’d say “oh man, dudes having a rough time with the geezers in the council”, but it’s the plot of his Amazon show and he’s refused to work with them initially so yea, idk why this isn’t at least partially Clarkson’s fault.
coverallfiller@reddit
Dumbest take ever- some rando gives death threat to some twat and you think its ok to shut down the farm? So its Clarksons fault? Fuck off
Jeb-Kerman@reddit
I've always wondered how much of that council drama is actually real and how much of it is exaggerated to give the show it's needed villain.
They sure do seem like right cunts though.
X0AN@reddit
I used to work in the area and the company I worked for wanted to buy a £2 million piece of land, for a £12 million project / office expansion that they wanted to build, wouldn't harm any of the local wildlife and of course would generate jobs for the local community.
They spoke to the council and the council, gave very precise blueprints, and the council said yeah you won't have any issues building that, buy the land and we'll sort out the planning permission and what not.
So 'our' company bought said land for 2 million and low and behold they were not granted permission to build on said land. No real reason given.
Our company fought it but at a certain point they deemed it too expensive to contiue to challenge as the council were clearly just being pricks and digging in deep. So eventually our company bosses just said fuck it, we'll just leave the land empty and take the financial hit.
And then eventually they relocated the company's office in that area to another local where the local council weren't cunts.
I still don't understand why the local council were such utter dicks to our company.
I've long left the company but when I did leave the land at that point was still going to waste.
MrPejorative@reddit
Do you think they were looking for bribes?
juanito_f90@reddit
Can confirm parish and local councils are full of cunts.
Lifelemons9393@reddit
I doubt the local councillor has actually recieved death threats.
These fuckers have proved they will use any dirty trick and go to any length to get Clarkson to quit the farm.
Call me a cynic but If you've ever had to deal with power mad council employees in UK, they would absolutley do this . Especially if you've fought them as hard as Clarkson .
luvmy374@reddit
He’s running for a higher position though.
EtherMan@reddit
Most likely, the death threat doesn't exist and it's just a claim to get some PR... Happens way too often with these "fans of X sent death threat to Y" kind of stories.
Craneteam@reddit
Yeah at this point, getting sent death threats is an instant PR boost. We need receipts for something this serious, because if it isn't true, it just smears Clarkson and the work he's doing
jeepfail@reddit
In fairness it has happened with Clarkson fans in the past when Clarkson was the one firmly in the wrong.
theresmorethan42@reddit
In the US, police reports for the matter can be requested as public record. They redact some stuff, but is there anything in the UK like this?
MrDoe@reddit
I mean, the reason people buy it is because it happens so often that it's just pretty likely that is has happened. Happens a lot with video games too and some really interesting one man games I've followed the development of decided to just vanish from the internet because it became too much.
Eli-Thail@reddit
Like when? That's not a common occurrence at all.
You could argue that it's easy for death threats to be sent over the internet and such with virtually no likelihood of action to actually be taken based on them, but that's entirely different from what you actually said.
Shan_qwerty@reddit
"Death threats" is the "strawman" of recent years. Just a complete nonsense sentence used by alwaysonlines in an attempt to win internet arguements. "Oh you disagree with me? Well you like X and people who like X send death threats therefore you are Hitler and I just won".
On the other hand insane Clarkson fanboys are exactly the kind of people I would imagine capable of sending death threats so who knows.
Roushfan5@reddit
I think there's also a huge difference between a credible threat and 'some asshole on the internet blowing off steam'.
I've gotten death threats online, but some squeaker on xBox Live hardly made me quake in my boots. Not that it makes it OK or isn't stressful to go through, but 99% of death threats are a big fat nothing burger.
OrganicWoodpecker625@reddit
I read this as “but some Quaker on Xbox live hardly made me quake in my boots” while scrolling by and wondered what the hell quakers ever did to you and how you knew??
I’m an idiot

Eli-Thail@reddit
With all due respect, that doesn't really address what I said.
Like, you're kind of talking about a different thing than I am.
Dipshits on the internet using faulty reasoning to make sweeping claims on the basis of death threats doesn't actually have any sort of impact on whether or not death threats occurred or the real-world consequences that they can have.
The dipshits are still dipshits, the faulty reasoning is still faulty, but the death threats are still death threats.
They're not undone or in any other way retroactively altered by someone using them as a basis to make a foolish argument after the fact.
ThenCard7498@reddit
can the cunts not include a screenshot? If they are that tech iliterate are we sure they are even viewing their own inboxs?
LiteratureEarlier@reddit
What you actually *mean* to say, is that you don't use the internet enough to see it happening therefore you believe it doesn't happen.
Strangers on the internet wishing death upon other people that disagree with them is extremely common.
Purple-Lamprey@reddit
So it’s all PR BS.
pompcaldor@reddit
Isn’t Jeremy’s neighborhood full of famous people and influential politicians? I bet death threats make up 5% of their mail any given day.
burtvader@reddit
Oh for fucks sake - fans of things can be such enormous cunts. Sporting officials, politicians, pop culture figures etc. receive so much abuse that it is fucking unconscionable - fuck any of you that do this.
Personally I feel Clarkson wouldn’t have had so many issues if he hadn’t acted so fucking petulantly. Going after someone for being dyslexic during a public hearing…..
I feel he is unfairly treated cos he is JC, but he’s also doing himself no favours.
And anyone who sends abuse to the councillors about it should fuck off and spend eternity stood on upturned plugs and Lego.
juanito_f90@reddit
You don’t think it would be prudent for a dyslexic to have someone proofread their work before presenting it?
Especially someone in local government.
wildassedguess@reddit
Don’t forget this idiot said his car park would be 200 acres big. In a written document. At best he was incompetent and at worst malfeasant.
burtvader@reddit
The guy wasn’t local government he was a barrister for the grumpy rich guy. And regardless of whether or not he “should have” (not for us to decide) Clarkson acted very badly.
Again, I think he should be allowed to have his restaurant, parking, bog, farm house, road etc. cos he is supporting other local producers (and some in New Zealand knowing Lisa), but he has made it worse for himself. Break out the meme of the biker pushing a stick through their own wheel.
Clegko@reddit
Dude, spelling and grammar checking is free, too. Most of those errors were something that would be caught by even the shittiest of grammar checkers.
X0AN@reddit
Show us the death threats.
I'm confident this lying twat just got a letter that called him a stuck up prick and now he's saying he's got thousands of death threats.
Magnemmike@reddit
death threats are never the answer
But, devils advocate.. they were a bunch of assholes. Having seen the constant issues Jeremy faces, I know now what hardships farmers face, otherwise I would have never known.
I have grown a big respect for these people, they work so hard.
Nosstress@reddit
No one should have to suffer threats against their life. But I have no sympathy for the local government either, they are paid for their incompetence. Corruption in my local government is so high that even death threats would backfire.
mad87645@reddit

RevengencerAlf@reddit
If true, it's unacceptable and even though he's a cunt, he doesn't deserve death threats. Basically nobody does.
That said I'm like 90% sure he's either making this up or signal boosting unserious threats he wasn't bothered by to exploit them as he runs for what is effectively a higher office.

All the things Carlson is salty about, the farm shop, and the restaurant are revenue generating means for his farm because it's a celebrity's farm in a tv show. I still don't understand why his restaurant can't be in a more car accessible place? All the lost revenue Carlson keeps harking on about involves inviting 1000s of cars in a small town and blocking the only mode of transport in that village. Just move the restaurant to a city, that's where his customers are coming from anyways. It could have been a good show about farming but Jeremy is not interested in running a farm, he is interested in being a celebrity.
harryTMM@reddit
i cant believe i'm having to say this but maybe don't send death threats to people doing their jobs
brownninja97@reddit
While I agree with the first part based off what we saw in the show and other people coming out about their troubles with this council it seems they dont do their jobs all that well or actively antagonise the locals
dsanders692@reddit
Yeah, absolutely. But also, being shit at your job is not grounds for death threats either
Machiavelli1480@reddit
Guess it depends on what your job is.

Be careful forming your opinions based on what you saw in a tv show. First and foremost it's an entertainment product. Even 'reality' shows have writers in the credits.
Check out this short clip from Screenwipe where Charlie Brooker demonstrates the power of editing. Basically you can edit any footage to tell any narrative you want.
https://youtu.be/BBwepkVurCI?si=VwZnESwaa0ta1TCV
ACU797@reddit
And try to see it from their perspective. Nobody in the world knew about Chipping Norton until this show and Clarkson (already a controversial person) decides to open a shop selling merch for that show without providing the adequate facilities to begin with. Yes the council didn't help at all afterwards, but the shop and the parking was a mess from day 1. Then add that Lisa has ignored multiple warnings to get rid of non-local stuff and I understand why the council isnt that cooperative.
It's an entertaining show to watch, but man would I hate to have to deal with Jeremy Clarkson in real life.
maddscientist@reddit
Sure, but being belligerent to Clarkson in return isn't helping the situation, someone has to be the adult here.
Instead of "no, fuck you", which has been their response up to now, it should have been "no, but let's find a solution we can agree on, that benefits all of us".
ACU797@reddit
In what world do you live where that's how people solve conflicts? There is no middle ground possible here. Either the restaurant and shop are open or not.
NobodyCares_Mate@reddit
You sound like a council official with that lack of creative thinking 🤣
brownninja97@reddit
Yeah I completely understand, my opinion was more a case of seeing the show and then looking into it after as theres countless articles about councils power tripping and youtube videos of people lamenting about their poor experiences
Mr_Piddles@reddit
Remember that we’re seeing an incredibly biased view. Everything we’re shown was selected to be shown by editors and producers to make a more engaging narrative.
brownninja97@reddit
Correct the councillors are worse in reality
AssumeTheFetal@reddit
I like the boys too but Jesus christ people.
nukrag@reddit
Poor fucking Clarkson, too, being put in a position where he apologizes/feels bad for what his fans did.
Bunch of pricks.
SharkSmiles1@reddit
And this guy is taking a shower literally. Clarkson puts a lot of this stuff in for drama affect. Remember, this is a show. Yes, we all would watch it even if he was just showing us how he grows his rapeseed but they need to get new viewers to be interested as well so they add drama to the show so that it remains interesting. This guy must have taken it literally.😬
microgiant@reddit
Regardless of how I feel about the Council's decisions (I think they're petty and short-sighted) this stupid.
It's morally wrong to threaten someone for doing their job, even you think they're doing it wrong.
Jeremy Clarkson is worth tens of millions of dollars, he doesn't need some random assholes to help him against a village Council. The man is not oppressed or downtrodden. He'll be OK, I promise.

Death threats are little bit uncalled for but not really surprising.
These councillors are the same morons who then cry and whine how every service and small shop moves away from the area and how nobody wants to live in their small village anymore and the village dies a slow death by everybody and everything moving out while they blame everything and everyone but themselves about it.
The whole thing is like the place where i live where old cunts didn't want anything to be changed about the area and now whine how you have to go out for hour or two trip to get milk because there is no shops in the area anymore because old shops closed when shopkeeper retired.
Mystikalrush@reddit

Death threats don’t help anyone.
It was clear the council is just a bunch of NIMBY assholes who don’t think of farmers as people but rather as part of the country aesthetic, and then these same asshole councilors begrudge the farmers the opportunity to actually make a living for themselves.
That one fuckface saying Jeremy can’t have a light (that literally every advisory board said was fine) because he sometimes goes outside at night is peak buffoonery. What an absolutely fucking piece of shit neighbor to have. “Sorry, you’re not allowed to run your farm profitably because I on occasion walk around outside at night miles away from you”

American here. We've had many election workers, state government officials, federal and state judges, their court clerks, county, state and federal prosecutors, and others I might have missed listing, face death threats since the last Presidential election due to a certain cult of personality celebrity politician BSing his way through life. And we're now entering round 2 of this.

There are other ways to let the council member know that they may need to re-evaluate their position.
This was remarkably creative back when the internet was fairly young. https://www.theregister.com/2002/12/11/spammer_gets_junk_mailed/
Numerous stories exist today of robocallers getting robocalls-called.
If an impassioned group of people wanted to “send a message”, there are less threatening ways to accomplish something. Just have to be creative.
TheTBass@reddit
No, the Councillor from the article looks to have stood down just before the Election. He looks to have tried jumping to a different ward but cane third. In his previous ward, his party didn't win either.
Probably tried using the article to try and boost his attention in new place (but failed to)
existential_chaos@reddit
The guy was a wanker and clearly biased against Jeremy, moaning about shit he was doing when he could’ve easily made some concessions, but maybe don’t send people fucking death threats? It’s pnly gonna fall back on Jeremy anyway, even if he explicity tells people to knock it off.

He’s running for office in neighbouring Witney, where he’s previously been the Council Leader. He had to resign in 2018 when he was facing a vote of no confidence. Sounds a bit like he’s using Clarkson for sympathy to get his old job back
