What is your go-to radio station?

I want to find a radio station that offers some variety of music and doesn’t just play the same 5 songs over and over. Any recommendations?
Yuugo_@reddit
Gorgeous radio for me at work, actually plays a selection of music from all eras and genres.
findingthetruth28@reddit
Planet Rock or Scala Radio. Both VERY opposite ends of the music spectrum, but love them both.
Mattuk1626@reddit
Radio 2 not the same since ken bruce left
Zennyzenny81@reddit
For music, 6 Music
For sport, 5 Live
watsee@reddit
Planet Rock.
Decent circulation of music (providing you like rock), likeable presenters, decent listener interaction. Would recommend getting the app and getting premium though; as they replace the ads with another song.

Used to listen to LBC most days but it drives me nuts now.
Best part of 1/3 of an hour is ads. The same ads. The same pretentious companies making the most inane ads.
Accidentally happened upon LBC recently and they're still playing that embarrassing Fevertree ad. "If most of your G&T is a Fevertree tonic, isn't it time we called it a T&G" or something. They say it likes its the most original and "naughty" thought ever. I hate it and every other ad on there because they're all equally terrible for products i'd never touch in a million years.
Then there's the other 2/3 of an hour:
Repetitive monologue from the host, designed to get you angry - whatever the story is. Never just a mature intro to the subject but baiting people to get them whipped up.
A few calls, cherry-picked, more often than not, to get those who want to argue with the host on air. I know, i've been known to call in and the only times i've ever got on were when i was clearly not going to stick to the angle the host took. Other times, just ignored.
Most of that time is the host, having spent ages whipping up a frenzy then playing "devils advocate" to bait callers further - again, not maturely but pompously.
Anyone who makes a "killer point" is usually let go, insulted or just cut off.
I do not listen to music much, do not care for BBC stations as a rule.
So these days, no, i don't have a go-to station, i tend to listen to content which lifts me, inspires and/or informs. That doesn't come from broadcast media.

JOB?
Exact_Improvement646@reddit
Sorry, don't follow?

James O’Brian. I agree with almost everything he says but he harps on sometimes too much to make his point.
Exact_Improvement646@reddit
Ah yeah, i think he's a bit of an outlier there. Now he does goad/bait people at times similar to the others but his general outlook is far more reasonable that the rest.
He does harp on, his monologues are repetitive just like the rest of the team but his points make it worth listening to.
stickyjam@reddit
My commutes so irregular now I just put capital dance on and it's fine.
RaceFan1027@reddit
Heart or Radio 1
jeanclaudecardboarde@reddit
OP said they didn't want the same 5 songs played over and over....
RaceFan1027@reddit
They play more than 5 songs, quite often they are repeated but that’s not too bad
Dazzling-Event-2450@reddit
Times Radio for chat or any Apple Radio for music
hhfugrr3@reddit
Spotify. Honestly, all the radio stations are a bit shit.
raemaew@reddit (OP)
I usually do but my drive to work is not long enough to justify putting it on
hhfugrr3@reddit
Spotify just comes on when I turn the car on if I have my phone with me. If I want to change the music I just ask Siri to do it. Had Alexa on my old Android phone, which worked just as well.
All_within_my_hands@reddit
It doesn't take any longer to put Spotify on than it does a radio station.
Jimmy-84@reddit
6Music through the week, but definitely not on the weekend as that shit gets weird.
LadyGoldberryRiver@reddit
What? Not even Craig's Funk and Soul show??
jordsta95@reddit
Unless I'm driving far away, I tend to stick to the local radio station.
The music is generally a lot more varied than national stations.
The news is usually more important to me/the locals; we live as far in-land as possible, so news about the coast/protests in London/etc. are very rare. Whereas stuff that's relevant to the local area gets more air time.
The traffic updates actually mean something. Unless you're near London, knowing about traffic on the M25 is a waste of time. But hearing about traffic on the local high street? That's useful.
However, if you want the best music. Curate it yourself.
Whether it's YouTube Music, Spotify, or a bunch of CDs. You know what you like best.
I have very weird tastes in music; stuff you won't get on the radio. So having a few CDs in the car with J-POP or OSTs from games means that if I'm on a long motorway drive or stuck in traffic, I'm not asking "Isn't this the exact same song as the last one which just played?"
kittyvixxmwah@reddit
Absolute Radio. There's some similarity day-to-day, but you usually won't hear the same song twice in a day.
Mossley@reddit
6 music
kaperosa@reddit
This, although I actually listen to the catch up shows for guy, huey, gilles and tom more often than the live broadcast

theoriginalShmook@reddit
So... you're a fan of the Foo fighters being played every 4 minutes?
I like radio X and it's what I mostly listen to during my morning/afternoon commute but it is rather repetitive.
hideyourarms@reddit
I was listening this morning and the Bravery’s song “Honest Mistake” was on. Someone texted in saying it was great and they’d not heard it for years.
The host said “well [insert name], I’d suggest that you don’t listen to Radio X much.” I like the song but it does seem to be on every day and I’m not every a particularly heavy listener.
Also that “welcome to the DCC” song seems to be on every hour.
JustUseTheWordMmmkay@reddit
BBC Radio 2. Loads of good music, rarely play modern rubbish and no ads.
Lunchy_Bunsworth@reddit
Jazz FM
pepe612@reddit
Rinse, Reprezent, Jazz London Radio (IMO it's better than Jazz FM), KISSTORY, Premier Gospel, Premier Christ.
badmansgoprague@reddit
Absoute Radio. Because of Matt Berry. NOT because of Dave Berry.
krohgkilimnik@reddit
Radio 6 would be my choice, the only station you can listen to Black Sabbath, John Coltrane, Shaka Khan, Dead Kennedys, and Fat Joe in the same show. Gilles Peterson, Cerys Matthews, Iggy Pop, and The Baby Huey Show are my personal favs
Unusual_residue@reddit
Radio X

Radio 4, very few songs, so barely any song repeats.
And before you call me an old bastard, I started listening to it when I was 8, and my parents are still married, so don’t be rude
jg_ldn@reddit
6 Music and BBC Radio London for me. Used to listen to Worldwide FM as well until they would down recently.
bgd_@reddit
When I used to commute it was Radio 4. The Today Show in the morning and then generally something science / technology or current affairs on the way home.
If the subject matter on 4 was too boring, then Radio 2 or Smooth.
Forgetful8nine@reddit
It used to be Lincs FM. But they've stopped transmitting on FM. Digital only. The Greatest Hits station that has taken over on FM is dismal.
I have a DAB radio in the van...but it's shit. The signal constantly dips in and out. I can stream it online and via bluetooth through the radio, but that's effort. I can't just jump in and go.
So, screw you Bauer Media!

Radio 1, sometimes Radio 1 dance or Kisstory.

Any streaming service. I can’t stand the inane chat on radio stations or the ads on commercial stations.

LBC.

Absolute Country.
Now close the thread, this is the answer.

Radio 4.
I'm not really into the drama programming though so I switch to Radio 6 Music.
Also sometimes Radio 1 if driving late at night.

Radio 3. Jazz, world, ambient, classical ...
