Are Moss Bros Custom Made suits any good?

I am having real problems getting a suit that fits me for a wedding which I’ll be attending as a guest. Moss Bros can make me a made to measure suit in 28 days but I’d like to hear from anyone with first hand experience of these suits before I commit to buying one. I can’t afford or justify going bespoke. Thanks.

Do they allow for fittings or just hand it to you, you try it on, they say it looks perfect and wave goodbye? I assume they do. Interesting the claim the suits are canvassed though. I assume they are?

They're effectively stock-cut suits that can be ordered with a limited variety of dimensions altered at point of manufacture. Hockerty, and other online "measure yourself" outfits, do the same but are much cheaper! Honestly, if you can stretch to (say,) £300-£500 more to have a small-town tailor cut you a legitimate custom suit then I'd advise you do that. Alternatively, a Raja Dashwani-type outfit (a skilled tailor does the measure in the UK and has a 3rd-world tailor do the rest) would be in that price band. I bought an MB custom as a "give it a go" work beater, and should have walked away from the appointment; "the trousers don't rise to my waist" - "we can't adjust that", "can the jacket be 1.5" longer, I'm not Norman Wisdom" - "yes, if we go to a long & two sized bigger." Hmm... Maybe it's a taste-of-honey thing, I've had proper mtm suits from a few sources my MB 'custom' seems unsatisfactory - but if you've only ever had OTP?

I think youve answered my q. But ive found a suit that looks fantastic from moss but i want my trousers high rise and pleated... Guessing ill have to go to suitsupply instead and drop 1k?

Good luck getting a refund on returns for online orders. My returns were delivered to Moss over 30 days ago and they have yet to acknowledge those returns let alone issue a refund. I can see from the tracking that they were delivered. They owe me over $1000. Their customer support so far just keeps saying be patient. I have lost my patience.

My suit was £200 back in 2018. The price will depend on the choices you make. I was very happy with my suit & got good feedback from guests. To clarify I didn't want to spend a crazy amount but I also would have spent more if need be. In short I just focused on what I wanted and the price after and I still got a good deal.

My husband just brought one as we have multiple weddings to go to this year and he's a difficult size to buy for (tall and over weight). We both really like it. To be honest we don't know much about suits but from what I can tell it's good quality, it certainly fits him really well, and he got multiple compliments. He also really liked how he could pick the lining. You can choose lots of details like the buttons, lining, embroidery colour, pocket shape, and of course the overall cut. It was also made on time and it was really easy. It was expensive though at £600. I think some options can make it cheaper or more expensive. Buying a pre-made one would have been cheaper but being a funny size would have made it too much of a headache. Over all I'd say it was good quality, made on time, looks good, easy process, but is a tad expensive.

It's worth shopping around and finding a suit that you like then taking it to a local tailor. Try a few styles even if you don't think they'll suit you. I was looking for a wedding suit and narrowed it down to a few sellers which included moss bros. The suit would have been £300-400+ tailoring. I walked out the store and happened to pass next then tried suit that looked similar. Tried it on and it fit damn near perfectly. It wasn't until I went to order it online (took a photo of the tags) that I noticed it was slim fit both jacket and trousers. I'm not slim anymore so avoided anything marked slim. Once I tried it on with a proper shirt and shoes it turned out the suit fit perfectly and only cost £95.

A tailored suit suit from MB will always look A1 but remember to bring your shoes so they get it spot on. An alternative that I have employed previously is to buy a suit off the rail that you really like but in a larger fit. Then take it to your tailor and have them adjust it for you. I saved so much from doing this and kept my tailor in good stead.
