Is the average person in California really rich?

Nope. In Sydney, according to my brother and his wife who now live there, you can feel richer with an upper 5-figure salary, and this is in Australian dollars. Converting this to Australian dollars gives a salary of 185K or something, which is insanely nice in Sydney. This is not necessarily true for all Cali police officers. My friend who goes to UC riverside is friends with someone who has a police officer as both parents. Neither make even 100K. Cali, even small towns are more expensive to live in than Sydney. Heck, the food in Cali is more expensive than in Sydney. I have seen screenshots of the menus in SoCal and in Sydney. Even without converting the currencies, the number listed on the Cali menu is much higher, and from what I read, Sydney's prices include the sales tax, while in America, the prices exclude the sales tax. Only 5 states in America do not have a sales tax, but unfortunately, Cali is not one of them, and neither is the state I live in. To top it off with that, the worst part is you are expected to pay a tip of anywhere from 10 percent onwards with 20 percent being the norm. Australia does not even give you the option to tip. I am curious to know how if this salary is considered rich in London if you convert it to Sterling pounds. Does London have a tipping thing?
