Has your town/ city centre been pedestrianised, if so has it been a success?

I live in Norwich & large parts of the city centre have been pedestrianised (as viewers of Alan Partridge will know) as well as hosting the first pedestrianised street in the UK, [London Street](https://www.edp24.co.uk/lifestyle/20833445.london-street-norwich-went-polluted-pedestrian-paradise/#). In fact a few years ago Norwich went a step further & banned private cars entirely from [St Stephans & other adjacent roads](https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/traffic/21014915.ban-cars-norwichs-st-stephens-street-starts-today/) making it effectively a bus lane. Has your town/city taken similar measures & has it been a success?
