LOVE Bobcat. Did stand up comedy here in Houston for years. He was our headliner for a fest at The Secret Group. I was the cameraman. Got to tell him in person how influential he was. I was super awkward about it bc I was so star struck. Told an amazing true story about being on a plane that had technical difficulties and the smell of smoke.. a group of special needs adults was on the plane. Everyone but the special needs group felt they were doomed to die. The captain came on the air to tell them "nothing to worry about, but when they land, there'll be emergency vehicles at the end of the runway to meet them.. inc a fire truck.." One of the special needs adults blurted out excitedly.. "FIYOWW TWUUUCKK??!!!" And just like that, the tension was cut like a hot knife through butter. Everyone breathed an enormous sigh of relief and a nervous laughter rippled throughout the cabin. Any time I'm nervous about something, now I just think about an excited special needs adult man-child being excited to see a FIYOWW TWUUCCKK bc they have no clue they may be plummeting to their death.

Ohh.. um, almost forgot. That show was on a Sunday.. Robin Williams died a few days later. Bobcat directed him in World's Greatest Dad. Robin's son's character dies in the same fashion as Robin Williams did in real life. Can't help but think the concept for how to end his life may have come from that script/movie. I still feel just AWFUL for Bobcat. It must be an extra deep pain. He's an absolute joy of a human being to watch and be around from what I saw and what others have told me.

In general, yes. And I love Drew. Been a fan since I was a kid myself. I’ve read her biography “little girl lost” a few times. But that plus how she is on her talk show - it’s believable for me. No hate though, she got less likable for me since she became a mom. It seemed to change her personality (at least the one she shows the public). But I’m still a fan and have respect for her.

It’s a character. He’s was never awful that I remember, he was annoying. But he didn’t do cruel or mean things. Anyone I know that met him (I’ve lived in Ontario, and had connections to the tv industry where he started out) has nothing but good things to say about him. His show wasn’t like the prank videos you see on YouTube. If you saw someone’s face - that means they signed a waiver. They approved that clip airing. Agreed. To add on: His style of humor was geared toward teenagers and twenty-somethings. Had he not been on MTV, and was just trying to appeal to a traditionally older demographic on the stand up circuit-he would not have been anywhere near as successful as he was. This is awesome, I was just talking about it with someone yesterday. I couldn't remember his last name (tom green's that is) when I was describing one of my favorite bits of his, which was from when he was in the hospital for the testicular surgery. Tom was remarking on all of the tubes connected to him and just kept saying "toobing...tooooooobing". It was also pretty funny that the guy I was talking to didn't get the last name, even after describing the 'where's my dinner bitch?' statue. He got it once I said, comedian, had a testicle removed. He was like "Oh, Tom Green!"

i LOVED tom green, still do. go back and watch his stuff! he did this special around the clinton/lewinski scandal era. that episode is honestly so deep. the press was absolutely ruining this young woman’s life. tom basically highlighted her humanity and pointed out what absolute monsters the press was being. you can watch the whole episode on youtube. also saw him on drew barrymore’s show more recently. he’s really a sweet dude who had a smart idea and for a time it was really funny and different. following in the footsteps of andy kaufman, and making way for jackass and eric andre. i’m glad tom green existed! fun times.

I think the marijuana in Hollywood California was super strong. Hollywood types are visionaries - they all know what's going to happen 10 years down the road. I tried watching Blazing Saddles (a movie I *loved* as a kid/teen) and it was difficult and cringey, and I *know* it’s satirical and I grew up in a rough and tumble shit-talking culture where my very mixed friend group was *brutal* in mocking each other’s origins. When I was 13 or 14, Tom Green wasn't just funny -- it actually felt like he was getting away with something, and you were vicariously getting away with something by watching him. It was like watching an insane con man subvert the establishment of TV. I know that's naive, but that's how it felt. You have to be a certain age/maturity to realize that punk rock isn't actually a danger to The Man, and I wasn't there yet.

Tom Green basically created the format that became Jackass and has been endlessly copied since. Jackass directly copied many of his skits. Another interesting point, he was the first celebrity to have a podcast and is actually the inspiration for the Joe Rogan Experience. He's a legitimate pioneer in the entertainment industry that doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Dude was definitely annoying af and I hated his show. However, he did help save my life. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer and devoted a few episodes to following him through his surgery to remove his one cancerous testicle. He also did an episode talking about how to self-check, and emphasized that guys need to be checking from teenage years on. About 3 years after all that I discovered a lump on my own testicle and was also diagnosed with TC. I was 23. It's now been 20 years since I've been in remission with no relapses. I'll always owe Tom Green a drink for dealing with his own diagnosis so openly and publicly. I genuinely wish I could shake his hand and thank him personally.
