I gotta say.. could be true, definitely resonates. I watched his live streams from home during COVID and he seemed incredibly grounded and rational and relatable. You could see where the oddball shit came from, but that it was a bit, not his persona.
Yeah if you look at his vs Drew’s childhood - Tom’s seemed more stable. So it does make sense.
His parents had the patience of saints for some of those early stunts.
“Hey dad, who don’t you want to drive you slut mobile to work today”
His season of last comic standing Canada was amazing.
And hes in a new sitcom “the trades” with Ricky from trailer park boys that’s pretty good too.
Ooh I'll have to give it a watch.

God I miss Jim Lahey/John Dunsworth. They should use AI to bring him back.
I’ve met him twice in real life, both times while working customer service.
He was a kind and lovely man IRL.
I’ve had friends who took theatre classes with him or worked with him and they all seem to have the same opinion. RIP ❤️ JD
Wow cool! Ty for sharing. Yeah I'd read he was very central to his local theater community and taught.
Really really zen guy RIP indeed. I watch that hobby/mixing cement video every once in awhile to lift my dad spirits:

LOVE Bobcat. Did stand up comedy here in Houston for years. He was our headliner for a fest at The Secret Group. I was the cameraman. Got to tell him in person how influential he was. I was super awkward about it bc I was so star struck.
Told an amazing true story about being on a plane that had technical difficulties and the smell of smoke.. a group of special needs adults was on the plane. Everyone but the special needs group felt they were doomed to die. The captain came on the air to tell them "nothing to worry about, but when they land, there'll be emergency vehicles at the end of the runway to meet them.. inc a fire truck.."
One of the special needs adults blurted out excitedly.. "FIYOWW TWUUUCKK??!!!" And just like that, the tension was cut like a hot knife through butter. Everyone breathed an enormous sigh of relief and a nervous laughter rippled throughout the cabin.
Any time I'm nervous about something, now I just think about an excited special needs adult man-child being excited to see a FIYOWW TWUUCCKK bc they have no clue they may be plummeting to their death.
Ohh.. um, almost forgot. That show was on a Sunday.. Robin Williams died a few days later.
Bobcat directed him in World's Greatest Dad. Robin's son's character dies in the same fashion as Robin Williams did in real life. Can't help but think the concept for how to end his life may have come from that script/movie.
I still feel just AWFUL for Bobcat. It must be an extra deep pain. He's an absolute joy of a human being to watch and be around from what I saw and what others have told me.
In general, yes.
And I love Drew. Been a fan since I was a kid myself. I’ve read her biography “little girl lost” a few times.
But that plus how she is on her talk show - it’s believable for me.
No hate though, she got less likable for me since she became a mom. It seemed to change her personality (at least the one she shows the public). But I’m still a fan and have respect for her.
I mean, there's hours and hours of Tom Green being weird and kind of awful on his show, though? Why do you have such a low bar for her but not for him when it comes to crazy?
It’s a character. He’s was never awful that I remember, he was annoying. But he didn’t do cruel or mean things.
Anyone I know that met him (I’ve lived in Ontario, and had connections to the tv industry where he started out) has nothing but good things to say about him.
His show wasn’t like the prank videos you see on YouTube. If you saw someone’s face - that means they signed a waiver. They approved that clip airing.
If we’re judging based on characters they played - how about ivy, from poison ivy. lol
I mean, you're kind of proving my point. You saw Drew Barrymore playing a talk show version fo herself and be awkward and decided she's "crazy". I just think people should actually examine why the'yre so willing to believe a woman is crazy just because a man says so.
lol you skipped right over the part where I mentioned I’ve read her biography that she wrote eh?
And the part where I agreed with you about how often women are labeled as crazy by men they dated.
This isn’t about man vs woman.
This about high public figures Drew and Tom.
Maybe you need to chill out with the blanket statements and picking odd fights online.
Are you sure you’re in the right sub? How old are you?
You seem oddly aggressive and combative and this place is usually much chiller.
Agreed.
To add on: His style of humor was geared toward teenagers and twenty-somethings. Had he not been on MTV, and was just trying to appeal to a traditionally older demographic on the stand up circuit-he would not have been anywhere near as successful as he was. His “childish” or “gross” humor was a big step above Farley and Sandler whom were beloved by young audiences.
As someone who loved Chris Farley, repeatedly listened to Adam Sandler albums, and then discovered Tom Green. This absolutely resonates with me. Throw in Bloodhound Gang and that was my formative teenage years.
"SIR, clearly that was you."
"No, it's the couch.. the leather.."

Early Sandler was every awkward inner child rolled into one. Legend.
I love that Nealon isn't cracking but Sandler is.. my roommate and I listened to that bit SO many times OMG never ceased to make me laugh. Then he's in Happy Gilmore as a guru. Just pure vintage SNL shit.
Kevin Nealon is still hilarious, I just saw the episode he did of Conan's podcast. He just wouldn't stop fucking with Conan, it was great.
I bought the CD and a buddy of mine who didn't have a CD player yet bought the cassette. His mom put it in the tape player in her pickup as we were leaving the mall and we got about two blocks away before she turned around and made him return it.
My parents didn't think it was funny, but they didn't give a shit about me listening to it.
Funny, I went on a hours long deep dive of Conan and Kevin bc of this last night. That Conan needs a friend 20 minutes of trolling is, as others point out on YouTube, the hardest we've seen Conan laugh. Nealon is losing it too 😂
CLASSIC! How did no one get this reference. UPBOAT!

That shit hit #23 on Billboard. And paved the way the following year for Hannukah, which hit #20, but clearly gets replayed as a skit a ton more.
They would pass around like a virus on my school bus. After a few months everybody on the bus would try to talk like that guy who owned a snake or like the goat in the pickup truck.
Well the thought of semen on this popcorn is certainly disturbing. Perhaps the staff in the refreshment stand was overcome by the monotony of their work and decided to play a childish prank.
We are adults. Old adults. You can just write pussy. Pussy. There. I just wrote it.
Are we going to be 80 using an asterisk to hide profanity from non existent filters? God I f*cking hope not.
As a 20something in the 90s, I found him to be a complete and relentless(talentless?) asshole.
I've never found him funny, nor could I see why people would see him as funny.
Above Sandler and Farley? Tom Green never compared, at least in my eyes. His stuff was never really that funny, just annoying as hell. The one time I found him mildly amusing is when he had that crazy pic airbrushed on the hood of his mom’s car- I think it was two women making love. But even that went from funny to incredibly annoying in about 2min. Only ‘above’ is that he was even more childish or gross, never more funny
No. Not asf all. He took their style, and made it more weird and “extreme”. Sandler and Farley were, are and always will be classic-and far superior. In the mid to late 90’s humor got more vulgar and “whacky”. Kids gravitated to it. Just think about how big South Park was when it first dropped. The Farley Sandler era changed into the Tom Green/South park era for late teens and early twenty somethings.
I totally agree. I’m just saying he took the ridiculous/silly/animated comedy to another level, and it worked for him. He pushed the envelope more, and the late teen/early twenty somethings (a demographic I was in) ate it up. Vulgarity became the new thing in the mid-late 90’s. Just look at how big South Park was at the same time.
He started on public access tv in Ottawa Canada and then was picked up by a network in Canada. He was quite popular before he made the move to MTV. Granted it gave him exposure in the U.S but he was doing alright before then.
Some pranks are fun. Some are just cruel. Even the ones Tom did weren’t as cruel as some I see. Tom green was never cruel. And he never made people feel unsafe. He just made himself look like a jack ass and people around him reacted.
I just think people are too uptight. I saw this hiliarous prank where a guy dumped a bucket of sludge on a guy in a train and everyone was up in arms and saying the guy should be arrested for it.
Legally speaking, that’s assault. lol.
But let me ask you, what if you’re on your way to an interview, or a date, or anything kind of important and some guy does that to you?
There is no caveat in the law that an assault is not an assault if it was a “prank”, so it is, in fact, an assault if the victim of the prank wants to pursue it.
Judge:
I was going to sentence the plaintiff to 1 year in prison, but his assertion that “it’s just a prank, bro” nullifies my judgement.
## DISMISSED!
Are we *certain* that Tom Green isn’t the one who invented Skibidi?
Has anyone ever seen Tom Green and Skibidi toilet in the same room at the same time??
He was actually way ahead of his time and was on the pioneering edge of things like internet broadcasting/early version podcasting-type stuff. On top of being a total loon, of course. I idolized the dude in middle school though
I’m not going to argue taste. I get him and laugh at almost everything he’s done. Including this recent weird don’t laugh reality show this Colin Mochrie. I’m sorry you don’t get the enjoyment I do.
Same. I can usually understand the appeal of things I don’t personally enjoy. I don’t think Tom Green is funny but I understood why people enjoyed his humor.
I would actually grant that honorific to Sasha Baron Cohen. He actually invented real characters and immerses himself in them to an insane degree where it’s hard to tell who is in on it and who isn’t.
it’s THIS. thank you! also cool how man on the moon came out around this time as well. that’s how i discovered kaufman and launched into a mini obsession at the time. the obvious influence on Green just added to my overall love for subversive and bizarre comedy.
I would say that he happened too early. Everything he did was ahead of his time. In some ways he started the long format interview when he pivoted to the internet.
I was diagnosed with testicular cancer about a year after Tom was.
Having him document his entire ordeal, step by step, surgeries and treatment was so incredibly helpful for me in a very difficult time.
That was huge for me.
I remember watching this on tv, his friend, i forget his name, was holding tom's testicle after it was removed and commenting on it. Thats it, thats my only memory from childhood.
Glen humplic is the baddest
Always rollin with the baddest crews
If he drops into your neigh-bor-hood
That's. Not. Good.
You're in for bad neeeewwwwsssss
This is awesome, I was just talking about it with someone yesterday. I couldn't remember his last name (tom green's that is) when I was describing one of my favorite bits of his, which was from when he was in the hospital for the testicular surgery. Tom was remarking on all of the tubes connected to him and just kept saying "toobing...tooooooobing". It was also pretty funny that the guy I was talking to didn't get the last name, even after describing the 'where's my dinner bitch?' statue. He got it once I said, comedian, had a testicle removed. He was like "Oh, Tom Green!"
I'm a bit too young to have experienced Tom Green at his peak but he ran an event to try to save an old building in Ottawa that they were trying to expand, met him there and he was super chill, seemed like a genuinely nice dude
He just didn’t give a sh!t… that’s why I loved him.
Years later we got see him on Celebrity Big Brother and become friends with Kato Kalin. I just love how Tom is always himself. That friendship with Kato is still going strong I hear.
No, not totally. It was definitely a different side to him, you could tell he was nervous but hopeful. He still joked around, but it was dark, and kinda clearly half-hearted. But he wasn’t a completely different dude or anything
That’s actually really awesome of him to do that.
He was obviously also freaked and he used his humor as a sort of coping mechanism to get through it. His own rising popularity and publicity and humor were his comfort zones.
In doing so he helped people like you.
There was that crossover time, where things were on both. I used to get super cheap VHS' at WalMart from huge bins for $1 or so around then. It was awesome.
I always tried to frame it to myself as a Kafkaesque comedy where the discomfort is funny, like the newborn in the hospital scene. Doing that, the film is genius lol
There are way worse movies really, this movies has several hilarious scenes, good camera work, a somewhat logical plot even. I've seen more than 50 comedies that have none of those things.
I dunno, this movie made me obsess about LeBarons. My senior year ('04) was spent LeBaron spotting with my oddball friends, and to this day if one happens to cross my path I still yell "Where's your LeBaron, Freddy?"
I had a friend that would absolutely bust up laughing every time at this scene, and he watched this movie practically weekly. I could barely sit through the movie once and I didn't find it funny at all. There were so many great comedies in that time frame, but I sure didn't think this was one of them.
I WANNA HEAR THE FUNNY LOONY LOON!
NONE OF THIS IS REAL! NONE OF IT IS REAL!
(if you were in my 10th grade German class in 1999 you were treated to a daily reenactment of this song 😁🤣🤣 )
I’ve been playing it for my 9 year old daughter in the car quite a lot recently. I’m definitely either the most awesome parent ever, or by far one of the worst.
That, my friend, is a loaded question. How could he not become a thing?! Scuba Hood?? The Slutmobile?? Were you even there?!? Tom Green is L E G E N D.
Tom was the genesis of the “I can be an annoying, obnoxious jackass and if I get under your skin you lose” style of human. Today we call it shitposting.
i LOVED tom green, still do. go back and watch his stuff! he did this special around the clinton/lewinski scandal era. that episode is honestly so deep. the press was absolutely ruining this young woman’s life. tom basically highlighted her humanity and pointed out what absolute monsters the press was being. you can watch the whole episode on youtube. also saw him on drew barrymore’s show more recently. he’s really a sweet dude who had a smart idea and for a time it was really funny and different. following in the footsteps of andy kaufman, and making way for jackass and eric andre. i’m glad tom green existed! fun times.
I loved the Monica Lewinsky special! She's a cool person and that really highlighted it at a time when she was hated by people on both sides of the aisle.
FX made a great series about the whole thing, showed us what was going on. i was in like middle school & high school at the time so i just didn’t quite understand everything, and the show really cleared a lot up. and it showed how she was abused manipulated and betrayed in front of the entire country. a really sympathetic portrayal.
OMG is there a Tom Green revival going on? Just yesterday, I saw a video on Instagram of someone re-enacting dancing to the Bum Bum Song back in 1999. Until that point, I was beginning to think I had hallucinated the song years ago...lol!
And to this day, I can never hear the word "Swedish" without thinking, "My bum is on the Swedish, Swedish...Swedish, Swedish!"
So saw this post and watched the bum bum song on YouTube. Goddamn that didn’t age well. It also reminds me how much has changed with internet and just pop culture
I still have Road Trip on DVD. I haven't watched it in who knows how long. My wife has asked to watch occasionally and I'm like, "hey, so I was in college at the time so I don't know how well this will hold up..."
Lol we'll see, I guess.
That Fiona and me, do it in my van every Sunday! She says that she's at church, but she doesn't go, instead she's on her knees and.... Scotty doesn't know!
I was in a band for several years and when we had time to fill, we'd bust out this cover. The looks on peoples faces was priceless!
There was roughly a 6 month period where I watched that movie almost every day. I at least had it playing in the background at some point in the day. One of my favorite lines is, "That's why it's called a shortcut. If it was easy, it'd just be called the way."
I think the marijuana in Hollywood California was super strong. Hollywood types are visionaries - they all know what's going to happen 10 years down the road. So, in the year 2000 when California life was not murder on a man's wallet, they were boozing up and smoking the strong stuff. That has to explain it. Tom Green is the most offensive director of films ever. Don't even waste one minute on this guy. If you want a really rotten film with any sort of integrity get "U Turn" with Sean Penn.
I remember my friends and I walking in for the Saturday matinee showing of Freddie got Fingered and seeing hand-typed signs saying that no refunds would be issued for the movie. That got us excited. Ended up being the only 3 people in the theater. Drank and even smoked a cigarette in there (after the attendant made his round). Dumb kids watching dumb comedy…and loving it.
You know the fucked up thing? His comedy is trash, but as a human being, he can be deeply fascinating. He is also more talented at freestyle rapping than he has any right to be, or you might expect.
He was just so absurd. 90s pop culture always had a token white weirdo... Kramer (Seinfeld), Phoebe (Friends), Screech (Saved by the Bell)... but Tom Green paved the way for Eric Andre. That's who was watching Tom Green back then. The same people who watch Eric Andre today.
Most controversial at the time, before jackass and stuff if i remember correctly. Annoying people who took themselves too seriously. Humping a roadkill and a movie like Freddy got fingered was quite a controversial thing then. Nowadays we dont get shocked easily anymore. Very outdated now but so are many things from yesterday..
It was obvious they knew they were being dumb for dumb's sake, but dang it's clear some people can't tell.
Succeeding generations snacking on tide pods demonstrates common sense isn't common.
Oh, we do, just at different things. I tried watching Blazing Saddles (a movie I *loved* as a kid/teen) and it was difficult and cringey, and I *know* it’s satirical and I grew up in a rough and tumble shit-talking culture where my very mixed friend group was *brutal* in mocking each other’s origins. (I’m the child of an immigrant, and I had to dish out and accept it to survive.)
I think it would be *deeply* shocking and controversial if released today. (I know it also was when it was released, but even more-so today.)
My college swim team exclusively watched 3 movies on our bus to away meets: Tommy Boy, Road Trip, and Happy Gilmore. One year our team t-shirt slogan was "Unleash the fury!"
Slut mobile and undercutters pizza are still great
.
Also, observations humor where he just childishly says “you suck” through a mega phone and no one pays attention is great.
He gave us what we needed when we needed it. I saw an interview with him a few years back and he said “I still don’t know how I ever became successful, I wasn’t talented, wasn’t funny, wasn’t really even good at anything. The 90s/2000s were wild” 😂
I think he was funny as shit. But also the well ran dry fast I guess. I don't know if the cancer just slowed him down and call it quits but he sort of vanished. I actually met him after he got a treatment while he was doing a 'hitchhike across the US' thing that I'm not sure ever materialized.
But for my money Freddy Got Fingered was hilarious.
Wow. The bum bum song. My brother had it downloaded on Napster, and put it on his Philips mp3 player. That’s a memory I never would have thought of digging up.
Loved and seriously miss "Buzz", had a very similar vibe but due to a bunch of reasons there's basically no material from it available anymore. So many hilarious skits, songs, and Canadian cable access goodness that just lives in my memories.
When i was in college i went with like 12 other guys from my dorm to see Freddy Got Fingered in the theater........... We were all vaguely traumatized.
Used that line routinely on my wife, ironically and would crack and laugh within seconds.. FOND memory of eye rolls. Loads and loads of great sex.
Having a really dumb sense of humor (both of us) made for enormous libido, both ways. Who knew?
He went to my home town once. Went to the radio station and asked to be put on the air. They told him no and asked him to leave.
He went to the tv station and asked to be put on the air and they let him broadcast live for a couple hours.
A lesbian sex scene on his Dad's car, then he drives it to the bus stop to try and pick him up to take him to work. He lived up the road from me when he had his cable access show on Rogers in Ottawa. You'd hear some shit happening a block or two away and be like "what's Tom up to now?"
He dropped off his demos on VHS and no one at rogers looked at him. He came back with hallowed out pineapples with the tapes inside and they tried him out.
I onow cause he dropped out of my orogram few years before me and the coordinator did not like him being mentioned.
The fact that Freddy Got Fingered is sitting right now on the Criterion Collection app is mind bottling. Sure, they're celebrating the Razzies, but at what cost?
Wasn’t much content really. Flipping between a few non crappy channels, it was a hit in 8th grade, bested out the 6th grade Amish paradise run, for the time, it was somethin new. Short lived. Very short. Freddy getting fingered seemed to wrap it up.
He filmed one skit in a coffee shop around the block from the house I grew up in. The owners son was notoriously short fused and almost beat the living hell out of him. It was something so stupid too, I think he dumped a bag of change on the counter and the dude just lost it.
Asking how Tom green became big is like asking how did skibbity toilet take off or nyan cat or pen pineapple or Harlem shake or ‘wazz up!’ or ‘up your butt and around the corner’, perfect storm just hitting
Remember the Bum Bum song being #1 on MTV’s TRL Live for like.. months? They had to pull it off manually because people wouldn’t stop voting for it.
For what it’s worth the song is actually catchy as fuck.
As a Canadian from Ottawa.... his public access show helped launch his career at the perfect time. He was pretty big here and if I remember correctly at least Ontario before he expanded and became known and big in the states via MTV.
Persistence that is how, the guy would not relent, you should see the original videos he did when he was younger, and the shit he pulled on his own parents, they have been featured in his videos, and by featured, i mean them yelling at him for waking them up at 2am, true story. The guy would be IN YOUR FACE on the street interviewing anyone willing to answer.
The 90s were really into the slacker stereotype, and he was a good example. Smart and privileged but used it to do nothing but hump roadkill. Remember he snagged Drew Barrymore too!
So we did alot of drugs and had no adult supervision . I have never recourse for what happened. Daddy would you like some sausage ?still gets stuck in my head
He had one of the first internet shows. Joe Rogan got his podcast idea after being a guest on Tom's show.
https://youtu.be/SlnC4OT0ZwA?si=JP_vyUXOEpb3NSir
First time I drove by Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, my first thought, 20 years after the song came out, was “My bum is on the Swedish, Sweeeeeedish” I stopped myself from putting my bum on the Swedish.
The "My bum is on the cheese" portion of that song ops into my head sometimes and I'm instantly angry that my brain chose to remember that, but not remember important things.
In the movie, Freddy Got Fingered, he starts off in his car, but an extra is in the way. He beeps and screams, "Get the fuck out of the way!" Apparently, it wasn't scripted.
I laughed so hard when I saw that.
It appealed to 14 year olds when those kind of "pranks" weren't all over the place, and dangerous. The pizza under cutters bit is still pretty funny. My friends and I still call each other "Money Bags Humplick" whenever someone buys something expensive. 25 years later.
trl, it was a way the fans got their voices heard. check out PTFO pablo torre finds out. he goes into detail how trl was more than just a music video show.
A friend of mine told me to go buy Freddy got fingered on dvd when it first came out, saying that it was the funniest film ever. I didn't laugh once, I had never seen his other stuff before, and I just didn't enjoy it. Maybe if I had been smoking a lot of weed back then it would have been different.
Undercutters Pizza
Asking people what they think of living in Long Beach
Painting the lesbians on the roof of his dad’s car
His shit was funny but really stupid
I've asked myself this question many times. Freddie Got Fingered is perhaps the worst movie I've ever seen. I did enjoy The Tom Green Show though, but yeah this guy was just the weirdest haha.
He's way ahead of his time. I look on the internet, and there's thousands of people trying to do exactly what he was doing. They're just doing it for clicks, though. He was all about the art. He just happened to get get famous
I'll never forget the Tom Green Show special where he talked about his cancer diagnosis. It opened with a clip from this song where he says, "My bum is on the cheese, my bum is on the cheese, and if I get lucky, I'll get a disease..."
Cut to Tom at the desk: "Well...um...I got lucky."
His segments during a Spring Break cruise made me laugh so much. I watched it over and over again.
I was 16 at the time, and I thought it was the funniest thing ever. During that time though, it was rare to see someone do pranks on the public and such in that manner.
I was always bummed he never did a cameo in any of the clerks movies. Felt like that would have been a great fit. We used to laugh at a lot of stupid shit back then and he was really good at doing stupid shit 😂
OMFG, one of the most chaotic moments on cable TV that I've ever seen, was when Tom Green had Andy Dick on his show 😱🫨
I need to watch that episode again 🤔😅🖤
I met him and hung out with him over the course of several days and I have to tell you he's without question one of the nicest, most down to earth people I've ever met
I mean he basically helped create live tv on the internet and the format for modern day webcasts. Very underrated and changed media forever. Crazy thing is he was doing this before YouTube or vine.
Tom Green is great. He can be kind of hit or miss sometimes but I think overall he hits most of the time. His undercutters pizza is great.
https://youtu.be/PdfztAY3qoU?si=D3joduaoanuVg7DW
I think Tom green is great in small doses. Stealing Harvard was a perfect amount of tom green. Want to shut off m'lady? Why don't you shut if off for me?!?!?
When I was 13 or 14, Tom Green wasn't just funny -- it actually felt like he was getting away with something, and you were vicariously getting away with something by watching him. It was like watching an insane con man subvert the establishment of TV. I know that's naive, but that's how it felt.
You have to be a certain age/maturity to realize that punk rock isn't actually a danger to The Man, and I wasn't there yet.
Tom Green basically created the format that became Jackass and has been endlessly copied since.
Jackass directly copied many of his skits.
Another interesting point, he was the first celebrity to have a podcast and is actually the inspiration for the Joe Rogan Experience.
He's a legitimate pioneer in the entertainment industry that doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Grandfather progenitor of millenial absurdist humor (which is what most advertising for non-luxury goods is made of up of now. Millenial absurdism humor is to the 2020's what X-Games XTREME marketing was to the 90's and aughts).
he was the first to do so many things that are standard practice now.
the street work he did to get reactions was very cutring edge
he did the first podcast also
He was one of the contestants on Laugh Out Lout Canada. He is hilarious in that. His old stuff appealled to teenage me, but he is still quite a funny fellow.
There was no YouTube back then, so there was a lot less material like his around back then. MTV saw him become a local phenomenon in Canada, and I think they liked the mix of goofy/surreal humor and prankishness.
Dude was definitely annoying af and I hated his show.
However, he did help save my life.
He was diagnosed with testicular cancer and devoted a few episodes to following him through his surgery to remove his one cancerous testicle.
He also did an episode talking about how to self-check, and emphasized that guys need to be checking from teenage years on.
About 3 years after all that I discovered a lump on my own testicle and was also diagnosed with TC. I was 23.
It's now been 20 years since I've been in remission with no relapses.
I'll always owe Tom Green a drink for dealing with his own diagnosis so openly and publicly.
I genuinely wish I could shake his hand and thank him personally.
Originality. A weird originality. But he was still doing something different and daring. You could catch some great shock humor. It was always “I can’t believe he’s doing that!!
Originality. A weird originality. But he was still doing something different and daring. You could catch some great shock humor. It was always “I can’t believe he’s doing that!!
I liken it to Jackass and Impractical Jokers, it hurts just enough of a chord for people looking for the absurd and dumb. I wouldn’t call him a comedic genius by any means but he knew how to push boundaries in order to get a laugh.
My two favorites:
https://youtu.be/UdVuVKbBF1o?si=VR9Q5Hrq19SZVdmH
https://youtu.be/mCyj0_N5oGM?si=LyxIaomZM2XD10zF
People might look back at someone like Tim Robinson and say the same thing about him in 20 years. It just somehow fits the time, but I can definitely see how people see only the loud and obnoxious side of it if they don't find it funny
It was the '90s, man. Young people were frustrated with social standards that seemed stupid and arbitrary. Culture in general reacted to this, and it's what Tom Green's comedy was all about, fucking with the standards.
In a time of streamers and tik tokkers becoming famous, the real question is how did Tom green go back in time from 2025? No one these days would look twice at him
I sometimes feel like I had to be the only one that didn’t get the whole Tom Green thing at the time. Good to see I wasn’t the only one. And I smoked a lot of weed and watched a bunch of stupid shit. His act just didn’t hit for me I guess.
Because people, apparently, like ridiculous things.
I could never stand him. Just like I could never stand Napoleon Dynamite or any of Sacha Baron Cohen's characters.
I don't... get Napoleon Dynamite. It's there, I don't hate it, but I don't understand how it became a thing.
I saw Borat, hearing it was offensive. I like being offended. I was, in fact, not offended at all.
Borat was never funny due to it being offensive. It’s just the things he says. I love both Borat and Napoleon so I’m curious what type of comedy movie you actually like?
Napoleon Dynamite was the first time I ever saw my small town’s conservative Mormon types portrayed at all accurately on screen, and I about died laughing. My best friends brother was exactly like him.
