Direct Hire Expats in the Netherlands

I just signed an employment contract with a company in NL. I’m currently doing some of the requirements needed for me to legally migrate and work there. HR told me that I’ll get news of my work VISA status this week. I’m kind of worried though aside from NL requirements, my country has a lot of requirements to work overseas and I would like to start some of them already while waiting for my work VISA. They are expecting me to start first week of June but given the paperwork and processes needed in my country it might take me longer. Is it possible for a company to make my contract void because of this reason? I’m just worried because I’ve already resigned from my current position.
Any insights would help ease the tension. Thank you!

Hi! I applied through LinkedIn lang ☺️

Hello, are you already in the Netherlands? Just wanted to ask how was the process for the OEC and was it really that hard?
I am planning to do this route too but want to prepare myself.

Hi, yes! Been here almost a year. The OEC process took a bit longer than expected but you really need to take care of it really early so it won’t delay the start of your contract.

Kabayan, as long as you have the OEC and Working visa you can go out of PH and always communicate with your new HR for them to support you also. Happy for you!
by any chance you can share your process applying as direct hire to your new Company ?

Thank you for the advice! I’m just actually waiting for my clearance for the OEC.
For direct hire, the same process lang po basically I applied through LinkedIn, did 4 rounds if interview then they offered me the position. Make sure lang they’re aware na you need VISA sponsorship matatagalan ka talaga sa OEC since there’s a ban for direct hires and the process will take around 2-3 months.

Smooth.... any recommendations like what companies or industry to apply to ? I'm an IT/network engineer with 15yrs exp and 5yrs exp from a global tech company here in UAE, kasama mo family mo or they offer only for single's ?Good luck and happy trip!

Hmmmm depende sa interests mo I filtered my searches to look for jobs in the following spaces (iot, electronics, AI, climatech). In your case, you can apply for network engineering jobs. I’m going alone kasi so I can’t say for sure kung paano yung process kung kasama family I guess more or less the same you just have to take care of their VISAs din or the company sponsors it.

what do you want to hear?
raceconditions@reddit (OP)
If it’s possible for them to make the contract void if they think my country requirements are too much of a hassle.

The users here have no idea about the POEA procedures and its red tape. You better ask this specific question at r/phmigrate

Thank you so much, I’ll check this out.

What requirements does your country have? This post is very vague.
raceconditions@reddit (OP)
OEC (Overseas Employment Certfiicate) - it’s basically a requirement here in the PH before we can get out of the country for work.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t help you with this. Get what you need in order and they will do what has to be done to get you out of the country. Remember, communication is key here. Be open and honest, and most importantly proactive. Contact HR.

Thank you! I actually am super transparent of the process and progress I’m making when it comes to the paperwork needed with HR. So much so that I actually compiled it in a checklist and labelled what’s needed from the employer and what items I’ll be handling on my end. I guess HR is not yet familiar with the whole process in the PH but has the NL paperwork covered. I’ve sent a reply trying to convince HR that this is indeed a requirement in the PH before working abroad.

If you are contracted to start on a given date and you just don't show up, yeah, you're not going to pass that probation period. If you really think you can't get an exit visa from your country or whatever the deal is in the next six-ish weeks, then talking to your future employer is probably the best bet. Waiting an extra week for you will be much quicker and cheaper for them than restarting the hiring process, so long as you keep them informed.

Thank you for this. HR also said that they will adjust the start date accordingly if there are delays. Moreover, I’ve been really transparent about my progress when it comes to the paperwork it’s just I don’t get much replies from HR maybe because the work VISA status hasn’t been released yet. This is the reason why I’m worried.
