CATIIIDUAL@reddit
It’s nice. But it isn’t an A340-600!
Even_Stomach_9015@reddit (OP)
bro, no offense, but the A340-600 looks like a pencil with wings and the Lufthansa livery on it.
planefan001@reddit
So is the 757-300
Ludicrous_speed77@reddit
A340-600 is the most hideous looking airliner in the sky IMHO
Even_Stomach_9015@reddit (OP)
Well yes, but actually no.
FishGuyDeepIo@reddit
no its not it's the 737-100
anamazingredditor@reddit
Even if an A346 with a Condor stripe livery is still beautiful for me 😂
masterpleaze@reddit
It grows on you
FishGuyDeepIo@reddit
but… isn't it just that?
Even_Stomach_9015@reddit (OP)
Well... yeah.
ClickAntique7113@reddit
Correct
AvGeek809_YT@reddit
It’s definitely an efficient, beautiful aircraft. One of my favs but I admit it’s a lil overrated
AccomplishedEgg5712@reddit
A330 in different skin
OwenBland@reddit
Plane with hooked nose and nose gear too far forward oh heck nahh my favorite is forever the MD-11. And A330, 767, L-1011 747 short upper decks are great too
HelloSlowly@reddit
Drop dead gorgeous, amazing efficiency. The best airliner to fly right now long haul. Silent or at least nearly as silent as the upper deck of the A380. Just a joy to fly.
Adorable_Detail3701@reddit
alexrepty@reddit
I’ve yet to fly on an A350, but I did fly upper deck on an A380 a couple of times and that was a world of difference compared to anything else. Can’t wait to try the A350.
PromptJazzlike4180@reddit
Did an A350-1000 on virgin over the Atlantic. Absolutely fantastic experience. Plane felt amazing, quiet and smooth
Warhawk-1@reddit
Same here, fell asleep to it’s beautiful purring engines
Only_Razzmatazz_4498@reddit
I didn’t really like the 380 in British Airways. The setup for business class felt cramped.
MJustin80@reddit
The new BA Club World on the 787-10, A350, and most 777’s is a big improvement over the A380 biz class.
stevekez@reddit
BA will eventually have club suites in their A380s, but not until 2026 most likely. They're only just retrofitting their 787s now after doing their 777s.
And by then they'll have barely caught up with Qatar's hard product.
seraphin420@reddit
I flew Club World on the A350 last year, it was the best business class experience I have had compared to American, Air France, KLM and Lufthansa. Would choose BA in a heartbeat these days if it’s the right plane.
Repulsive_Winter_978@reddit
I flew Finnair a359. Amazing experience
HuckleberryApart9515@reddit
On a recent flight to Cape Town, SA on a Delta A350-900, was sitting near the back. While I have experienced various intensities of turbulence over the decades of flying, I have never experienced the weird tail wagging side to side. We'd hit a bump, and the entire back of the plane would start oscillating to a peak intensity and then gradually subside. One of the flight attendants remarked "That's not normal". 😮. Oscillations would persist for 5-10 seconds. Anyways, besides feeling like I was in a blender, in smooth air the ride was more comfortable and definitely quieter than 777. I sent a note to Delta as I thought it could be a maintenance issue, but they just gave me some mile credits for turbulence.
erbien@reddit
Agreed, my current favorite long haul jet to fly, all my US to Europe and Europe to Asia flights have been A350 in the last 6 months. Absolutely adore it
A_curious_fish@reddit
I wish I understood your comment!
nspy1011@reddit
Just flew the A350 and A380 upper deck long haul, almost similar seat positions at the front and can say the A380 is slightly quieter but not by much!
For the airline I flew (British), I certainly prefer the A350 which had the new cabin layout to the A380 with the older layouts
Shot-Ad-9088@reddit
And crazy fuel efficient as well, 20% lower than 777 carrying the same number of passengers. So the planet’s favorite plane right now for sure as well !
Innovativename@reddit
I mean the 77W is generally heavier too, so it’s not purely about efficiency of wing design. The fuel burned from lifting 20T up 4000 ft is likely going to be quite hard to justify no matter how efficient the wing is. The A380 has a huge wing and doesn’t cruise very high most of the time either.
youcanreachmenow@reddit
Also only needs the same length of runway as an A320 which makes it very versatile
ArgonWilde@reddit
Very unusual that you say it's quiet, because I flew an A380 and then an A350, and my main comment on the A350 was that it was significantly louder than the 380.
I live next to an airport and we have a couple A380s that take off every day, and there's one A350 which is the loudest plane of them all at take off. It's very unusual!
jembutbrodol@reddit
I just flied with 350 few weeks ago. Economy in 2 hours flight, then premium eco in 10 hours flight
It was amazing. Even in Economy seat, the engine noise was minimal, seat was great, very very comfortable
Compared to 777 or A333 economy, nothing can beat 350
Unitedfateful@reddit
Nice. I’m going from Syd to lax flying delta on the a350 in a few months Premium economy Excited now after reading this!
DJ3XO@reddit
Flying the 350 for the first time come November. Specifically booked FinnAir just for the chance. Looking forward to it!
HelloSlowly@reddit
How lovely! I wish you an amazing time losing your XWB virginity.
Plus, Finnair’s livery is just subtly stunning on the A350.
mrvile@reddit
First time I flew on the 350 I was stunned at how quiet it was.
Only_Razzmatazz_4498@reddit
I did a flight from the US to Europe in business and it was great (ITA) and I really liked it. I think it gives the 787 a good competition
fatmaneats17@reddit
Couldn’t agree more. The long haul and especially the cabins in business are far superior to United cabins. Just flew the 787-10 it was like a year old and the a350 smoked it in every category.
genericTerry@reddit
So cool, it looks like it’s wearing sun glasses!
intelligentmaybe69@reddit
Had my share of long hauls last year and A350 was very close second to upper deck of A380. Amazingly beautiful plane. Those blended winglets get me every time.

Best aircraft I've ever flown is the A350-1000.

Gabriel_B_1929@reddit
One of the best experiences, perhaps THE best. I'm not sure we'll ever see again an aircraft so advanced - how much better, realistically, can a plane get?

taisui@reddit
What 787 should've been
IggyBG@reddit
What's wrong with 787?
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
Over-budget, quality issues, and delays. If the the corporate culture of McDonnell Douglas didn’t reign supreme after the 1997 merger I guarantee you the 787 problems (apart from Rolls Royce engines) would not have occurred.
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
Don’t know why I’m getting downvoted. 32 billion dollars for the 787 program, batteries on fire, fuselage gaps, years behind schedule sound like being over-budget, quality issues, and delays.
AcridWings_11465@reddit
To put that in perspective, the A350, also a clean sheet design, cost "just" 11 Bn € to develop.
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
32 billion is more than double the 11 billion euros for the A350 program.
I know that Boeing is unnecessarily getting overhyped media hate since Alaska MAX 9 door blowout, but it shouldn’t cost more than double to develop a similar airplane in terms of technologies compared to your competitor.
Yes I know that the initial A350 concept was just an “A330NEO+”, but don’t forget that Airbus relaunched the design later.
AcridWings_11465@reddit
I'm agreeing with you
Zestyclose-Picture56@reddit
It overpromised and underdelivered. One good thing it did was to convince Airbus to design the A350.
SkyFly320@reddit
How did it under deliver?
Rumpelforeskinn@reddit
Maybe in terms of profitability? It's had exceptional charge after exceptional charge. It's possible the programme will never make Boeing a profit.
flightsimchicken001@reddit
Underdelivered? Sure it has its flaws but sales numbers say otherwise
Zestyclose-Picture56@reddit
If we look at orders only, 737-Max is a successful aircraft with 6.3k orders. What I meant was that Boeing pushed the marketing on this project while doing the opposite for the actual aircraft. It was delayed, they launched a painted shell, it was grounded after launch (lithium battery) and even now, over 10 years from launch, Boeing employees cite concerns about the build quality.
A350 had its issues too, I remember the paint issue but all in all they maintained trust. Boeing has a lot to improve here. I love both companies as they had a huge impact on the aviation world. But imo the Dreamliner brand has not aged well for Boeing.
flightsimchicken001@reddit
737 max has many orders... but compared to the NEO's order figures it loons like a disaster
thedennisinator@reddit
It actually exceeded the promised fuel burn metrics.
taisui@reddit
2-4-2 got turned into 3-3-3 for long haul, yuck
TinKicker@reddit
That’s an airline choice. Not the manufacturer.
taisui@reddit
I know, end result is the same for the passenger.
Empyream_l@reddit

FrankBeamer_@reddit
A380
Mysterious-Swan1234@reddit
For comfort it is surely the best, but they start to get quite rare due to increased costs and lack of airports suited to them
Teppy-Gray@reddit
Best airliner with no competition in range but I would argue that there is competition in other aspects.
Old_Poetry_1575@reddit
Too bad it doesn't have dimmable windows
Capable-Job8073@reddit
i honestly dont think tis good looking but its very modern efficient and a great aircraft
lordofnowhere@reddit
Is Airbus planning to upgrade A350 airframe or engine in the near future?
GloryHole-Service@reddit
Another beautiful machine created to soar in the skies.
FlyInternational648@reddit
Don’t the Rolls Royce engines have horrible durability issues? Like 700 hr TBO?
WonderfulIncrease662@reddit
no. currently theres zero issues. the only one who complained recently was tim clark the emirates boss about the xwb-97 which powers the a350-1000 talking about how it would require frequent servicing and maintainance in the gulf environment. but then, etihad and qatar airways operate a350-1000s in the same environment without any voiced out concerns (except airbus is paying them hush money) so - dont know why hes complaining so much about it
flightsimchicken001@reddit
Love the A350. Technically speaking it's better than the 777-300ER in almost every single aspect except fuselage width and belly cargo capacity - perhaps maybe even passenger capacity in some circumstances.
However the 777-300ER is more "manly" due to its shear presence and the GE90s, so from an avgeek perspective I love it more (will always love the 777 more than the A350 no matter what). But again, from a passenger perspective, the A350 is probably better :)
I might be a bit biased because the 77w is my favorite passenger aircraft 😂
WonderfulIncrease662@reddit
i agree with you in the physical department. the a350 is more slimmer sleeker sexier while the 777 is more buff and muscular especially when you add the massive ge90s.
memloh@reddit
It has a very *good looking* and clean cockpit, combined with the technology from A380. So much symmetry.
Also still amazes me that it has the same type-rating as the A330, where, I understand, an A330 pilot can fly the A350, and vice-versa.
WonderfulIncrease662@reddit
thats the airbus advantage. similar technology and design from plane to plane. pilots can switch with minimal training.
ssbuxtd@reddit
A very reliable plane indeed, it’s a HUGE miracle that everyone on the JAL plane survived. Very sad that the Coast Guard crew were not as lucky, RIP to the 5 who perished.
WonderfulIncrease662@reddit
never flown on it before, but its a beautiful bird.
roflfalafel@reddit
I've always been a 787 fanboy for long haul flights, but had the pleasure of taking an A350 long haul from KUL -> DOH, and right after that had a flight from DOH -> SEA on a 777. After that back-to-back comparison, I think it is now my favorite plane. I couldn't believe how quiet the cabin was, and I never realized how tiring sound pollution can be on a long haul flight.
FrankBeamer_@reddit
Unpopular opinion : I would rather fly a louder plane which drowns out the passenger noise than a quieter plane in which you can hear every passenger’s cough and scream
IWantAnE55AMG@reddit
Had this same experience on a 13 hour flight where the folks behind me spent the entire 13 hours recounting every single detail of their trip together to each other. Like they didn’t just spend 2 months backpacking with each other and all had the same experience. The A350 was ridiculously quiet but I could have used some cabin noise to drown those passengers out.
WonderfulIncrease662@reddit
hahaha
Gusearth@reddit
i agree with this, it’s like white noise
a_brain@reddit
One thing I like about the 787 over the a350 is the windows. The 787s windows have to be at least 50% bigger, and the dimming is so cool. You can still look outside without blinding everyone in your row.
PGnautz@reddit
Dimmable windows are also available on the A350
flightsimchicken001@reddit
The 787 is just as great as the A350 in many aspects, but Boeing really missed the boat with the 787-10 unfortunately
mdp300@reddit
How did they miss the boat?
flightsimchicken001@reddit
Range is disappointing. To reduce costs Boeing did not modify the wingspan of the 787-10 (the wingspan is the same as the -9). The carried over wingspan combined with a stretched fuselage does not give good performance numbers, so to ensure that efficiency remains key in the 78x, they didn't add any extra fuel tanks either. That's why the 787-10 can't fly the same missions the A350-900/-1000 or even the 787-9 can.
Wandering__Bear__@reddit
They accidentally built a plane instead?
masterpleaze@reddit
Yep, I involuntarily stayed awake the whole 13 hour flight on the a350 and honestly it was quite comfortable
Embarrassed_Log8344@reddit
Fuck the "ohh it's loud". Give me GE90s damn it!
iheartfrankocean729@reddit
it’s beautiful on the inside and outside, although economy really does feel the same as any other modern airliner with the exception of the screen capabilities, and the folding head rest. I flew on a Sichuan Airlines A350-900 from LAX-TFU this summer on their flagship panda livery.
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
A diamond from Airbus. Glad that Airbus went with an all-new, clean sheet design with the A350 instead of the original A350 concept which was just an A330 with new engines. If only Boeing will release an all-new design instead of just upgrading 50 year old designs…
KickFacemouth@reddit
Then they still did an A330 with new engines, too.
Even_Stomach_9015@reddit (OP)
how dare you call the A350 that.
KickFacemouth@reddit
I'm referring to the A330neo.
Even_Stomach_9015@reddit (OP)
I take back what I said
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
Smart move by Airbus with the A330NEO. Relatively simple upgrade, thus lower development costs than its competitor; 787 (2 Billion vs 20 billion). Apparently despite having delivered over 1,100 787s, Boeing hasn’t broken even on the 787 program. I guess that’s what happens when you switch your engineering culture with Wall Street culture.
Stoyfan@reddit
They did a lot more than changing the engines. The wings for example were redesigned because the original A330 was designed for both the 330 and 340. For the NEO, they no longer have this problem since the 340 has been discontinued.
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
Yes that’s correct. I’ve learned something new today.
Still, those “simple” redesigns sound a lot cheaper than developing an all-new aircraft.
Stoyfan@reddit
The 350 is in line with the 787 because they are both clean sheet designs
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
In that sense, yes. But I meant in terms of pax capacity where A330 is in line w/ 787 and A350 is in line with 777.
Rumpelforeskinn@reddit
The 777X is a far more substantial redesign - the full composite wing, folding wingtip, thinner fuselage walls to allow another seat per row.
My understanding of the A330neo wing is that it's got a new tip, A340 legacy elements are removed, adapted it to take a heavier engine and probably a fair few other tweaks - but it's ultimately a pretty similar wing to the ceo(?).
Seems like a smart move though - refresh a relatively modern design into something that will take 787 orders away and keep them further from profitability, while not really risking much.
SkyFly320@reddit
But surely spending money on engineering instead of just changing the engine would suggest the opposite?
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
In order the change/upgrade/redesign the engine, you need engineers to look at it, which involves funding the engineering department…
The 787 was a clean-sheet design, the A330NEO is based on the A330. The majority of the NEO’s development was on the engine, thus less money needed to spent on research/development/engineering.
SkyFly320@reddit
The 787 is an all new design, I don’t understand this thread.
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
This post is about the A350, not the 787.
haasisgreat@reddit
But you brought boeing into the discussion eh?
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
Yeah because I wanted to compare the two. Others are bringing Boeing in this post.
haasisgreat@reddit
But you started your comment with Boeing?
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
Everyone else is bringing up Boeing in their comments. This is an aviation subreddit, Boeing is one of 2 major airliner manufacturers.
haasisgreat@reddit
Yeah but you open the floodgate by bring Boeing into the discussion saying that there is no new clean sheet design. When someone disprove you with the 787 you try to slither your way out by saying we are only talking about the a350
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
The “50 year old design” I was referencing was the 737 MAX and the constant upgrade after upgrade when a new Future Small Aircraft was more appropriate than the 737 MAX. I was pointing out how Airbus initially presented the A350 as an A330 derivative but redesigned it as an all-new/clean sheet design.
haasisgreat@reddit
Didn’t airbus still went ahead with the A330neo with a 50 years old fuselage from the A300?
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
The A330NEO shares the same fuselage dimensions and cockpit frame from the A300. But the A330NEO has fly-by-wire, new wing, new tail, new materials, no flight engineer position, LCD cockpit displays, improved aerodynamics compared to the original A300.
haasisgreat@reddit
If using your scenario isn’t the 737max is also very different as compared to the 737-100/200 model? They got a rewing during the upgrade to the NG, they also got high bypass turbofan engine compared to the 100/200. Didn’t they also got all new glass cockpit which looks different to the 100/200 steam gauges? So what are you comparing I’m confuse? Both plane got upgraded during those period?
Both plane can trace linage to the 1960s plane which they came from. But they are still a very different plane as compared to the plane that came out of the factory in 1970s. The only difference is that the airbus you no longer called it the a300 but the Boeing is still called the 737.
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
A300 and A330 are marketed as completely different product lines. They have different type ratings. An A330 pilot can’t simultaneously fly the A300. They would need to go back to the classroom and have simulator check rides. Meanwhile the 737 is a single product line, and Boeing have marketed the 737NG and 737 MAX as a common aircraft. Before the MAX crashes, Boeing told airlines and pilots that they would only have to do an iPad course to simultaneously fly the 737NG and 737 MAX. Plus, the 737 had to have many comprises in its design. Ever wondered why it had “hamster pocket” engines? Well that’s so it could have the ground clearance by shifting the engine components to the sides of the CFM engines. Same with the MAX. They had to position the engines more up and forward than before. Many individual Boeing engineers thought that the NG already pushed the limits of the 737 design and was time for an all-new airplane. This is the 50-year old design I was referring to.
haasisgreat@reddit
Well you’re looking at those issue as design compromises while I’m looking at it design solution. It’s looks like our belief in design is different.
But to tell you the actual fact why is there no all new clean sheet narrow body from Boeing is the facts that they cannot get the fuel consumption of the plane down to a level where the clean sheet design makes sense. Airlines won’t want to purchase a jet 10 to 20% more expansive than the a320neo family while having just a bit more fuel economy advantage. That’s why MNA replacement for the Boeing 757 is not launch, it’s not a viable plane compared to the a321XLR.
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
They are design compromises. Ever wonder why there isn’t an EICAS in any 737? It’s because if it were introduced, pilots would have to go back to the classroom which is not preferable. As a baggage handler myself the 737 is a fucking outdated piece of shit aircraft to work with. It can’t carry ULDs like the A320 or other wide-bodies so we have to stack the bags individually plus no human can stand up in the cargo hold so we have to go on our knees to stack bags. That was a design characteristic because the original 737-100/200s were built low to the ground so they could handle smaller airports.
The Boeing NMA/757 Successor was being presented privately to airlines but shelved because of the 737 MAX crashes. The 737 MAX 10/A321XLR is being touted as a 757 replacement but the MAX 10 doesn’t have the range and both don’t have the capacity of the 757-300. Those 757s are getting very old, and airlines are keeping their 757s for longer and longer because there isn’t a preferred replacement yet.
haasisgreat@reddit
Yes everything leads back to cost, the airlines cannot make back their investment even though it is a new jet with better fuel efficiency. Even if the plane is the best in the world they’re still not going to be profitable.
To your end, ask your airlines finance department don’t be a cheapskate and ask Boeing to design a new jet but I believe your airlines finance department after seeing the initial investment to bring in the new design will baulk at the cost.
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
The point is Boeing has quite literally MAXed out with the 737 design. It was time for a new airplane to compete with the launch A320NEO in the 2010s. But Boeing went the easy route and upgraded the 737 again. They did this so pilots don’t have to be retrained again from the NG. Ironically, new EASA certification rules require MAX 7 and MAX 10 to have EICAS, which would require pilots to have substantial training, which was what Boeing was trying to avoid with the 737 MAX in the first place…
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
Oh now I get what u were trying to point out. The “50-year old design” I was mentioning was in regards to the 737 MAX, not the 787.
eddiehwang@reddit
A320 is a 40-year old design and it flys fine.
A320 family will essentially be in the same situation of the MAXs when the next iteration comes.

Hate me if you want, I think the 747 is overrated. Innovative for its time, but I'd never have that in my fleet today or even back then. Not very cost-effective. It's nothing more than a novelty aircraft to me. If was my airline, A321, A220, A350 only.

IMHO will take the "the standard longhaul plane" role the 777 has now over time. A very good workhorse that's not going to be perceived as old or special in some way by the mass of passengers for a long time.
mottledmirror@reddit
It's gorgeous!
jdbcn@reddit
Flew an A350 from Santiago Chile to Paris and it was so silent and smooth
moosehq@reddit
Comfortable, spacious, quiet. Prefer it to the 787 for long haul - it’s pokey and cramped by comparison. Still prefer an A380 for the novelty, and the 777 is just cool but if you want a peaceful and comfortable flight, nothing beats the A350.
masterpleaze@reddit
They made the cabin wider to fit 3-4-3 configs, maybe newer a350s in the future will begin to have 3-4-3 which would make flying on it a living hell. (Ofc depending on the airline whether if they opt for it or not)
AceCombat9519@reddit
You are correct and in East Asia you have the June-July 2023 order by Philippine Airlines on their A35Ks to be 3-4-3 in Fiesta Class their economy class product. If you side by side that one to a Cathay Pacific B-LXx A35K you'll find out the PR A35K is cramped in Economy class PR Fiesta Class unlike the CX B-LXx fleet 3-3-3.
mockvalkyrie@reddit
I hope most airlines don't adopt the 3-4-3 config on the A350. JAL does 2-4-2 for their 787s and it's really nice compared to the usual 3-3-3!

Def agree about the JAL 787 config. Was very surprised at the amount of leg room I had in economy even with backpack under the seat in front. Hated coming back on their 777 in the 3-4-3. That out leg really spoiled long haul economy for me. Especially being my first international trip
gbish@reddit
Last few years have done A380, A350, 787, 777 and the 787 was the biggest disappointment for me. Just found it small & uncomfortable. Maybe as AA felt like they put in cramped wooden bench seats instead of real seats.
A380 (with Singapore) has been without a doubt the best flying experience I’ve had. Incredibly quiet and smooth, will be so sad to see them stop flying.
After that it’s the A350 without a doubt. Did the -900 with Cathay and found it quiet, smooth and comfortable. Wish there was more with carriers near me.
nottlrktz@reddit
I just flew an LH A350 YYZ-MUC last week and it was great. I was in J cabin.
My only complaint was the air felt significantly drier.
discombobulated38x@reddit
Gorgeous aircraft, quiet, comfy to fly on. 900 variant packs arguably the most reliable engine of the last 20 years, with bucket loads of thrust overhead.
1000 variant has a few more issues, but they're being ironed out. It is however capable of the most impressive nonsense (Project Sunrise), which rocks.
sajriz@reddit
Just did 350 on my way back to HEL and wow sooo quite
IndyCarFAN27@reddit
While I’ve never been on an A350, I’d love to fly one and operate a flight. Looks alone, I prefer it to the 787. The 787 is beautiful and my favourite worry aircraft to operate on but man the A350 is a beautiful aircraft. The wings and the blended winglets are so elegant and graceful. It looks like a beautiful white swan lifting off the ground.

A350 with CX crew must be the best way to fly period
Few-Independent46@reddit
Isn’t Singapore airlines and Qatar much better than CX?
Pons399@reddit
Singapore's also not what it used to be, but still top 3 for sure. Definitely better than 2024 CX, which is more on the level of lesser Asian FSCs like KAL.
HelloSlowly@reddit
Yep. CX has been a mixed bag of late for me and my traveller friends. Not bad by any means but just not the Cathay peak of what they were.
They’ve hit a rough patch because of the Hong Kong troubles and COVID but they’re on the up. Their new cabin looks promising though and they’ve returned to profit so I’m optimistic of them returning to their peak. Truly fantastic times with them and the people there.
Innovativename@reddit
I don’t think they’re going to get much better. They seem in a race to the bottom to be more of a Chinese airline. They’ll most likely end up similar to China Southern in terms of service going forward. The cost savings from hiring from the mainland are too hard to pass up.
saggiolus@reddit
Not a big fan of Qatar . Good airlines for sure but to me the experience include also airport services. CX lounge at HKG is unbeatable in my opinion. Of course it’s subjective

The A350’s just one of those planes that look great no matter what the livery is, and Cathay’s is no exception. Really excited to see more airlines operate this plane in the future.

We get one daily at my city’s airport. I try to watch it come and go as much as I can. It’s absolutely beautiful.

Just did a 10-hour flight to India in the BA A350. Quiet and comfy. Wifi worked the entire time. The fact that it uses less fuel is the icing on the cake.

Most sophisticated avionics with softwares beautifully programmed. And it won’t break apart, unlike the certain plane that is currently a subject of debate in the US congress.
squarebearings@reddit
Unfortunately it’s Congress and someone wrote it down as “plains”. So they think that shit is flying off of Kansas at altitude.

B787 better
RealExii@reddit
Let's just say whenever I'm in need of a flight, I'm actively seeking which path is most likely to put me on an A350.
wintertempest@reddit
It’s climb performance is less problematic than the 777, but spoiler faults are a perennial problem, negating a lot of the “next gen” fuel gains.
TheOnlyEn@reddit
I love it. Technological, high efficiency, silent, comfortable, flying computer, and spacious.

jan3k0wayne@reddit
Scrolling through the comments and now I am so stoked to fly with the A350 in may. Never flew with an airbus before, I’m so curious about all the differences to Boeing.
Even_Stomach_9015@reddit (OP)
The Boeing 787 has dimmable windows, but then Airbus stole it and put it on the A350. That is the difference.
Vollkorntoastbrot@reddit
It's not Boeings technology and airbus apparently did a much better job with it.
A normal shade is still better imo.
SorryIdonthaveaname@reddit
the dimmable windows are better when the window is facing the sun since you can still kinda look out without being blinded
Vollkorntoastbrot@reddit
I never actually thought about them like that tbh
Ok_Attempt286@reddit
You had a nice thread going here
meh_whatev@reddit
My biggest complaint with the tinted windows is that there’s no physical shade to pull down, because guess what, when it’s sunny outside and you tryna sleep the sun is still visible. If Airbus hasn’t kept physical shades with their new windows, then ew
masterpleaze@reddit
The dimmable windows on the a350 are much darker than the ones on the 787, although not perfect it’s basically pitch black from what I’ve seen (it was in a controlled environment tho).
meh_whatev@reddit
Curious to try them then, because I do like the idea of them, especially as it pertains to dim them halfway to look out without bothering other people
masterpleaze@reddit
The only thing Airbus stole is Boeing’s market share, Boeing is a mess right now 😂
FishGuyDeepIo@reddit
boeing didn't invent the technology
Lower_Discussion4897@reddit
Just like Boeing 'stole' the widebody twin format from Airbus, eh? All their long haul airliners have that configuration now - and they darn well stole it!
jan3k0wayne@reddit
Why the hate?
Wise-Advisor4675@reddit
It's not going to feel much different than any other twin engine widebody, Boeing or Airbus. Maybe a bit quieter, but that's about it.
Vollkorntoastbrot@reddit
I have yet to fly a a380 or 747 (or a340) but so far it's my favourite plane to fly on.
No bs like the dimmable windows (at least till recently) like the 787 and it's a lot quieter.
While I'd prefer to fly a plane that I haven't so far I'd absolutely not mind a a350 over a 787 or 777

Best airplane period. I love the A380 as well but for me the A350 takes the first spot.
MaddingtonBear@reddit
Only one flight on the 350 so far (coincidentally on B-LXA, the aircraft in the picture), but I enjoyed it a lot. Extremely quiet, even behind the wing, and that little bit of extra cabin width makes a difference.
cuperkut@reddit
tbh I find its outside cockpit design kinda ugly (I prefer the flat windowed style), but the plane has amazing and cool technology (like the tail camera) and is the best long haul airliner since the triple 7. Hope I get to fly on it at the future

Well, let me tell you, the A350 is like a fine wine - sleek, efficient, and gets better with age! It's a real game-changer in the world of aviation, if you ask me.
ssbuxtd@reddit
Yeah it’s really hard that more than 10 years have passed since the maiden flight. The design still holds up super well, major props to Airbus for the aesthetics.
Enjoy-the-sauce@reddit
Almost every large commercial plane today looks exactly the same, with the exceptional of the A380 (looks fat), and the 747 (not bad). With the exception of a couple of retired tri-jets, we’ve had nothing but very, very similar twins and quads since largely eliminating any other designs starting with the Comet.
ssbuxtd@reddit
My favorite aircraft by far, it’s the perfect combination of elegance and efficiency. Always a real pleasure to see whenever I travel. It looks great in many liveries too. Some of my favorites are Delta and Air France.
non_kashmiri_boy@reddit
I initially didn't like the look of the plane that much....however it soon changed when I first saw it's Qatar Livery and I thought this would look good on other liveries as well...which is pretty much exactly what it turned out.
Accomplished-Toe-468@reddit
I think it hits the sweet spot between the narrower and shorter range 787 and the bigger but heavier/less efficient 777. Boeing really needs to rewing the 787 and come out with an -ER version of both the 789 and 7810 (and potentially offer 7811).
afapracing@reddit
Love the tree fiddy. Hate the DeltaOne compact layout. A little bit more room would go a very long way.

Appropriate-Count-64@reddit
A350 looks so much better than the 787. But my opinion always flips between the 2. A350 and A330 are some of the prettiest planes in service anywhere, but damn if the 787 doesn’t look good.
Never flown on one though.
The_Vat@reddit
Flew back to back with 777-300ER and 787 economy with Singapore Airlines (Brisbane-Singapore-Haneda A350-787, then Narita-Singapore-Brisbane 777-A350) late last year.
A350 just edges the 787 on cabin quiet and general comfort levels but both are a step better than the 777, 787 has slightly more comfortable seats in Singapore economy trim. Leaving aside the current buzz around Boeing and the 787's quality issues, would be happy in either plane and preferable to the 777.
Strqtegy@reddit
love the a350, such a beautiful plane. It's literally stunning how well it feels to sit in one, how quiet and comfortable they are, it's just great. Not mentioning that the a350 is one of the most efficient airliners to fly.. EVER.

entropy13@reddit
Almost as good as the 787, not quite big enough to replace a 777 but newer and nicer than an A330. Overall I’d take a 787 over an A350 but an A320 over a 737.
fuss_moktel@reddit
you dont know what you're talking about the dreamliner is very uncomfortable for passengers in Economy. Its too cramped width wise. The few extra inches that airbus squeezes out of its airframes make all the difference for passenger comfort.
entropy13@reddit
That depends on how the airline set up the cabin. The exact width of the cabin does affect that but fundamentally it depends on how they decide to lay it out.
FrankBeamer_@reddit
Manufacturers get significant input by airliners during the design process. They would’ve 100% known the aircraft would be primarily operated 9 abreast, and they could’ve adjusted the fuselage width to make it competitive with Airbus. But they didn’t, resulting in a very cramped airliner
entropy13@reddit
Quite true but the A350 is a total of 5” wider, which in 9 abreast layout corresponds to 5/9” extra per seat, which isn’t 0 but really it’s flying 8 abreast or 9 abreast the affects the seat width not which of the two airplanes you’re on. The most comfortable options would be a 777 9 abreast but they operate those 10 abreast regularly now. Depends on the airline and the seat more than the plane, but more room is always nice I guess, however minimal.
Main_Violinist_3372@reddit
I remember an Airbus youtube video where they compared sleep in 17-inch seats vs 18-inch seats. There was a significant improvement in seat quality of the 18-inch seat compared to the 17-inch seat.
SkyFly320@reddit
They added an extra seat in. Not more space
DownRedditHole@reddit
I've been on it twice (economy) and the experience was nothing special. I can't say it's any different from other widebodies. Maybe it's because it was LH who became such a shitty carrier recently, skimping on everything form seat pitch to catering.
mckeeganator@reddit

Dynamic-Sausage@reddit
My first ever time on a plane was a 2 week old A350-1000 (Virgin LHR-JFK)
I was slightly disappointed as if we flew from Manchester we could have taken a 747 but the A350 is an incredible plane, extremely smooth and great little extra features for the passengers like the overhead and underneath cameras.
Since then it’s all just been 767s and 787s. The 787 is nice but just not quite as nice, it also feels a bit common. The biggest downside to this whole thing is that I never got to go on the 747 and now probably never will.
graytotoro@reddit
I will always have a soft spot in my heart for it since I kicked off my engineering career working at a contractor supplying parts to this program.
bdubwilliams22@reddit

Im definitely on the Airbus side of the spectrum as a passenger. That said, I wanna prefer the 350, but I seem to have better experience on Dreamliners to be honest. Not sure why.
I do understand that they're not 1:1 substitutes for each other, but they often fly the same routes.
That said, happy to take a longhaul 787, 350, 380 wherever.
