Why are many of the police cars in the Northern Ireland cop drama different colours and just marked with stickers?

They're pretty consistent. White with yellow blue battenburg markings.  Some black bonnets starting to appear.  I see a much wider variety of livery when in London, for example. > > >Marked police cars are relatively new phenomenon in NI.
