What's the difference between Next and Nextdirect?

Hi!
I'm a mom from Canada. :)
Scrolling across social media, I saw a reels of a mom whose daughters were wearing some very cute outfits from Next. I'd never heard about Next before.
At first I thought it was some sort of Shein, but then I found out on Reddit it was actually kind of an ASOS and very popular in the UK? And the quality is apparently fine, is that right?
So I wanna give it a try and order online. I saw that they deliver to Canada... But there seems to be 2 different websites for the same store and I'm kinda confused...
Anyone can explain the difference between Next.co.uk and Nextdirect.com?
It seems like I can order from Nextdirect and have it delivered to Canada but not necessarily on Next.co.uk...
I feel like it's maybe a dumb question, but please someone help my mommy brain out!
Thank you!

I wouldn't recommend shopping from Next Direct. I've been trying to return items for over a month now and their customer support has been completely unhelpful making suggestions that don't work. Escalation to their complaints department hasn't worked either. I frequently purchase online but have never experienced a company that doesn't honour its returns policy. I won't be buying from them again.

Glad I found this thread. So it is regular behaviour for them?
I made my first order last year. The payment went through, but it wasn't shown in my purchases. Clothes arrived too big and the most expensive one damaged. Since the purchase wasn't visible, I was unable to make my return. However, customer service helped me out and I got my refund with no issues.
I was tempted to make a new order because they carry very long (tall) women's pants, but it wouldn't be worth the trouble.
Able-Candidate-2245@reddit
Agreed. Next Direct entered wrong address on my package so that it couldn’t be delivered and in the course of multiple emails trying to figure out why it couldn’t reach me, they denied their mistake and then LIED to me outright by claiming I had given them the wrong address and then contacted them to fix it, which they tried to do, but couldn’t. In fact, none of those last things happened. They made it all up after first denying the address was wrong until I submitted photographic proof to them. That’s when they changed their story from “it didn’t happen” to “it did happen, but it was your fault”. The incompetence is disappointing but the dishonesty is mind-blowing.

Wow I guess I was lucky then. I ordered a fairly expensive coat from Next online yesterday, despite ordering my normal size it was far too big for me. No biggie, just bring it to the Next shop close by me, and it’ll be exchanged I thought. How wrong was I. I started to have a look in the shop but they didn’t have the coat I ordered, so I asked to return my coat in order to get one in the right size. The lady at the till scanned my coat… and then told me I need to pay £114 (the price of the coat) again in order to get another one sent to the shop. I was baffled. I already paid 114 and 4.95 delivery the day before, why would I have to purchase another coat ? It’s because we will refund you the first one, she said, it’ll be 5/7 working days before the full refund. Not only it’s not working for me because I can’t wait another 7 working days, but also it’s a Christmas present from my mother, who lives in France. I told them the return label says to just go in store for a free return. She says yes it’s free because you will be refunded in 5/7 working days. I insist : I don’t want a refund but just to swap the coat that doesn’t fit me without having to purchase another one. She calls the manager. He tells me to purchase another coat 😂💀😭🤦🏻♀️. I explain, again : no refund, just an exchange. They tell me that the website is a totally different company than the shops, so basically it’s almost like I purchased from another company. I insist : look at the wrapper saying to return it in store for any issues and get a free exchange or return ! He tells me it’s free because I will be refunded in 5/7 days 😂💀😭😭. I’m starting to lose patience : why can’t they just take the coat, issue me either a 114 store credit or just give me a coat in a smaller size 😭😭😭. Eventually, the manager does it 🤦🏻♀️. It took him 10 seconds to print a receipt for me to collect a new coat when they have received it. Honestly took almost 20 minutes to argue over something that was clearly easy to make. I’m never ordering anything from Next ever again lol 😂.

Completely unrelated but I just bought some bags in Next Direct from Iceland through their site. It seems like I dont even see my purchase right after in the “Expected” tab. Naturally it wouldnt be in either Delivered or Returns. But this is making me nervous.

I’m a Brit living in Canada and I just did my first Next Direct order.. hoping there are no duties to pay! Previously I would do massive orders in England that my parents would bring over for me when they’d visit. I miss the Next quality especially for kids clothing, so hoping this pans out 🤞🏽🤞🏽 Are returns/exchanges straight forward?
Maximum-Bobcat-6250@reddit
Did you end up paying duty?
homelesstoothless@reddit
No. When I looked back at the next direct site, it does state that duties are inc in the price you pay.
I did need to do returns though - you have to pay for your returns and I still don’t think they’ve been received because Next hasn’t emailed me anything nor did I pay for tracking as it was already expensive to mail. So I may have lost close to $100 in merchandise and returns 👎🏽
Foreign_Government_2@reddit
10 months update lol? I'm thinking of ordering, but skeptical of the return process. Is the fees high to return?
homelesstoothless@reddit
I did end up getting a refund, but didn’t get any kind of email to confirm they’d received the items. I just got an email, some weeks later of the refund amount. Safe to say, I didn’t bother with another order, it’s just too inconvenient.
Maximum-Bobcat-6250@reddit
Omg that’s awful I hope you didn’t
TheQuiteMind@reddit
Tried to order a Calvin Klein wallet in NextDirect.com. Hopefully it arrives with the expected product. Been seeing the reviews and they scare me
fluffy_samoyed@reddit
Next.co.uk is the main site for the shopping within the UK. Nextdirect is their international site for shopping from elsewhere. They stock mostly the same product between one another. I don't know Canadian stores to compare it to, but it's a respectable clothing and homewares store here. It's actually my favourite, most things I own come from there.
homelesstoothless@reddit
There aren’t any.. I’m a Brit living in Toronto and I still opt to buy from England.. Next, M&S and even Primark, shopping is crap here and so expensive!
SchnappyTurtle@reddit
How much is shipping to Toronto from the next website?
homelesstoothless@reddit
Shipping and customs is inc in the price you see. I’m sure there is a little banner that also states this on the website.
SchnappyTurtle@reddit
How much was shipping to Canada?

Hi Guys :)
I am interested to know where you think the best sizing conversions are presented for kids and women for Canadian sizing. Sizing charts can be so confusing where can I best find the correct conversions for UK clothing to Canadian x
ChickenFingersRGood@reddit
do they ever have sales? love their toddler stuff, but think some of it is a tad expensive!
Next_Winter@reddit (OP)
Sorry for the late reply. I guess you already have your answer by now but I'll still answer in case someone else find this post and is interested to know.
I've been ordering from NEXTDirect for a year now, and I never saw any sale, and I've checked all the time: no end-of-season sale, no black friday sale, no boxing day sale...
I've noticed though that when it's the end-of-season periods, some things disappear from their website. There were summer clothes that I was waiting on the possibility of a end-of-season sale to buy, and instead they just disappeared.
Someone else responded that there are sales on the UK website, but I've saw none in the past year on the international Website (at least Canadian).
homelesstoothless@reddit
In the UK Next used to be known for their bit annual sale.. line up at 4am type sales, but they do sales online, just not all the time like some retailers like Gap etc. it’s very much Boxing Day sales and possibly a summer sale. If you like it, get it, don’t wait for a sale with Next to snag your item.
scagal@reddit
OP have you come across a promo code with NextDirect? I’m also in Canada, hesitant to order until I read your post about being happy purchasing from them.
Next_Winter@reddit (OP)
Hi! No I've never found a promo code but I haven't look for one neither... I know that there are some websites that suggest promo code to use but I always forget to look for coupons and I don't use Honey nor anything like that, so I can't really tell...
Anyway, I've ordered from them twice and I'll probably order from them again. The quality is good especially for the cartoon tshirt-short sets (I've bought 2 Daisy Ducks, 1 Lilo & Stitch and 1 Peppa Pig... maybe more but I can't remember at the top of my head right now).
I've also bought a couple of things from NextDirect that the quality were a little bit more meh, but I feel like that can happen with any store... I buy most of my daughter's clothes online at Zara and I'm not necessarily satisfied with the quality of around 10-15% of the things I purchased, and I have a similar experience with NextDirect... The thing is, when that happen, it's easier to return items to Zara than Next since there is no Next store in Canada...
My daughter is 24 month old and around the 30th percentile for weight and height, and she wear 1.5-2 y/o at NextDirect (I've order both some 1.5-2y/o AND 2y/o clothes for her and the 2y/o is definitely WAY too big for her, feel like 3y/o, so look at the size chart if you're hesitating). Even the 1.5-2y/o is baggy on her, like the height is good but it's pretty large. Because of it some dress are less cute than I hoped for, but would be awesome for a chubbier toddler. I like the baggy style for tshirt/sweatshirt though.
I realize that I gave you lot of informations that you didn't ask for, whoops, but I hope it help anyway if you end up choosing to order from them. And if you end up finding a promo code that work, please let me know. :)

Hi! Mom from Canada here too. :) I just ordered from them and it’s a little time sensitive, do you remember how long delivery takes? And what courier they use?
Next_Winter@reddit (OP)
Hi!
The last time, it took only 6 days (from the moment I made the order (august 24th) to the moment I received it at my door (august 30th)).
It was delivered by DHL Express. So it was quite fast even if I'd only paid for regular shipping.
I'm from Montreal, Qc. I don't know if delivery could be longer depending on where you are in Canada, but I hope it will be similar. :)
RigatoniBraxton@reddit
Just updating to say that my parcel came crazy fast! I ordered on Tuesday and just got it today on Friday. I really like the quality! The sizing is so large though. My daughter is 11.5 months and in the 97th percentile for height (75th for weight) so of course I didn’t order 9-12mo. But the 12-18mo is wayyyy too big and long. I actually have to reorder one of the outfits in the smaller size now so that it fits her for her birthday in a couple of weeks lol.
Next_Winter@reddit (OP)
You're right! I think I'll make an edit on my original post since many moms from Canada seems to encounter this post.
My daughter is almost 28 months old and wear size 1.5-2 y/o on NextDirect. If you look at the size guide on Next, 1.5-2 y/o is 92 cm, which I think would normally be size 2-3 y/o in other brands. So it's kinda confusing. Sorry about that, I should of told you ahead to be careful about sizing. I'll make an edit right away so it doesn't happen to other Canadian mamas.
Happy birthday to your little one! :)
RigatoniBraxton@reddit
Thank you!!! And no worries about the sizing, I should have paid more attention to the chart. You’ve been super helpful, I was afraid to order from them until I saw your post as I’d never heard of this brand. I am really happy with the clothes and will definitely order from them again. :)
RigatoniBraxton@reddit
Thanks so much! I am in Toronto so it should be a similar timeframe to you! DHL always gets to me super fast. Thank youuuu :)

Hey! Ordering myself in Canada, and I do see the $10 shipping that they’re charging.
My question is: did they charge you for customs/duty? You do get charged for it when you order from the US, which is why i was concerned
Next_Winter@reddit (OP)
Hi! I've ordered from Next Direct 4 times now, and I've never had to pay any duty. I don't know why there isn't any duty to pay but I won't complain haha. I'm from Montreal (Qc), but I guess it should be the same everywhere in Canada?
AbbreviationsJumpy88@reddit
That is fantastic! things have been sitting in the cart for a while, guess I’ll just pull the trigger now! I’m out of wpg (mb) and it should all be the same 🤞🏼
Next_Winter@reddit (OP)
Great! Hope you'll be happy with your purchase :)

I just wanted to let you know that this post helped me pull the trigger on buying a cute pumpkin-shaped stoneware mug 🤗
Halloween is my favourite holiday (and autumn my favourite season) and I wanted something a little more adult looking to perk me up for the season! I didn’t love any of Indigo’s offerings, and although I loved the Jack o Lantern mug from Williams Sonoma it was going to cost over $45 with S&H.
This one was $31 all in. And I can stomach that if it’s as nice as it looks online!
Next_Winter@reddit (OP)
Oh I've never try ordering something other than clothes! Let me know how the mug turn out!
HAPPY FALL to you from a fellow halloween lover!
Jabbott23@reddit
OP did you end up buying from them after? I’m also Canadian .
Next_Winter@reddit (OP)
Yes! Twice! Delivery take less than a week and the quality is good, especially for the tshirt-short sets (like Peppa Pig, Minie Mouse, Daisy Duck...). The duty fees are already calculated in the price on NextDirect so you don't have to pay extra fees once your package arrive. I recommend it. :)
felinecattie@reddit
Came here looking for this exact info! Thank you!

Next has lots of stores in the uk. They were a mid level brand quality. Not top end but decent enough. The quality has dropped a little along with everything else.
Next_Winter@reddit (OP)
Tysm for your answer :) I think in the last couple of years many (if not all?) clothes compagnies had a drop in quality unfortunately, at least I've noticed it from places like Gap and Zara... Anyway, if Next is (at least) H&M/ASOS quality, I'm totally fine with it :).
I did noticed that there are other brands (most of which I've never heard of) on Next, interesting to know that those brands were bought by it. Thank you for taking the time to answer. :)
Pippin4242@reddit
Nicer than H&M. Perceived as a little dated, but if you couldn't find what you were looking for anywhere else, Next would always have a decent pair of trousers and the odd cute shirt hidden amongst the mummy fashions.
Orchid500@reddit
Next is not comparable to Shein at all. It’s got High Street stores and is an established UK retailer. Nextdirect.com is the international online version of.
Next_Winter@reddit (OP)
Thank you so much for your answer! :) That was kinda my guess but I wanted to make sure that is was safe to order from nextdirect instead of Next Uk (which I don't seem able to order from anyway). So now that I know nextdirect is just the international version I'll order! Can't wait to see the clothes! Thank you for the taking the time to answer :)
charlie_boo@reddit
Can’t answer to the difference between the two but Next as a brand is considered fairly high quality in the UK. Miles above the likes of Shein.
