I’ve been removed from giving blood, has this happened to anyone else?

I called today after not being able to log in and told I’ve been removed. Am I dying?

Might be that you have a very common blood type, and they don't need as much of it at the moment? They should have told you why though. Call them back.

I’m O Negative, carribean and a sickle cell trait carrier. Didn’t think we were to common considering the rally’s for “brown” donors. I did and told the same. It’s been passed for investigation. I only couldn’t once because of a heavy period so had low iron but that wouldn’t incur a life time ban.

No, that sounds like you'd be highly desirable on multiple fronts. I'd definitely call them back and ask, and if they decline to answer, ask your doctor for a full blood test and explain your reasoning.

I had been successfully donating for decades (I have my Diamond Award) and, one day, they noticed I have a slight heart anomaly. It doesn't affect me but apparently it was a bar to donating under the European guidelines. I was 'retired'. Have you asked them?

You should definitely use * "Retired Blood Donor" * as a job title when someone asks 😂

Yes asked them but said it’ll need to be passed on for investigation. They couldnt even tell me if I needed to ring a doctor.

When you contacted them, what did they say?

You’re no longer allowed to give blood. That’s all they can say.
