Should it be either XX months probation or work with a company minimum 2 years before you can just be let go without reason not both?

One thing that had always annoyed me with a new job is that you worry if you are going to let go during the probational period then you spend the next XX amount of months worrying about that you can just be let go at the drop of a hat until you reach 2 years with said company.
I think it should be either pass your probation then be entitled to all the benefits someone of 2 years or more have i.e redundancy pay, cannot just be let go for what ever reason or it should just be work the two years.
Edit: Grammar
