Believe it or not: Right now, there are only 3 cars for sale in the US that are actually built/assembled in China. It was only a few years ago that this number was zero. They are the Buick Envision, Lincoln Nautilus, and the Polestar 2. The Volvo ex30 will be the fourth.

What years of the nautilus were made in China? Was the 2020?
Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir@reddit
Volvo S90? And I guess the Polestar 1 is no longer in production?
Im_100percent_human@reddit
You are correct. I just checked. The 2024 S90s in my local dealer's inventory all have a Chinese VIN numbers.

Which start with "L", right?

Is this good or bad?

Not an expert, but I bet this has a lot to do with the limited choice in the US.
"In 2018, Trump imposed, and Biden has since continued, a special 25 percent tax on Chinese-made autos, on top of the ordinary 2.5 percent tax on foreign-made cars."

Ford was planning on bringing the Chinese-made Focus Active (a slightly lifted Focus hatch) to the US before that tax dropped.

As soon as BYD figures out a way to do business in North America like they are in the EU, that number will rise significantly and probably give a lot of the EV options from other companies a run for their money
I have nothing against the physical cars from china themselves in theory. Volvo has been increasing their production since they were bought out by Geely for example, and very few normies know or care about that, even though it’s been almost 10 years now but I do question their labour practices and safety history, which is partially from the stigma attached to Chinese made products and partially because their gov yreats people badly. But then again, so many parts for our electronics are made there, we don’t really have a foot to stand on in that argument. The next decade will definitely be interesting in vehicles.

This isn’t a complete list. The Polestar 2 is also made in China (Zhejiang).

I think we'll see this number rise quite a bit over the next few years, especially with Volvo/Polestar models (having a Chinese parent company), but also GM, who has always had a strong presence in China in several ways. However, the biggest increase may be from actual Chinese car companies/brands/models that are currently looking to see if they are going to break into the US market.
