What's wild is both my parents were truckers when I was growing up and I absolutely got both sides from them. My dad is a typical mid tier bigot, disgusted by the "fags and trannies", thought women shouldn't be hired as truckers. My mom, on the other hand, sent me to be babysat by a gay couple and their lesbian roommate and had a transwoman blacksmith friend.

It's most likely corporate CYA for that. They're dipping into protected class identifiers, so they have to make it optional because you could claim they didn't hire you because you're gay/trans/whatever if they require it. But they give you the option to let them know how to identify you so you can't sue for that either. Companies usually don't do anything for malicious reasons, they just coldly calculate what the minimum cost they can get away with is and do what it takes to achieve that.

Yes in theory, in all likelihood, even if it's not used by the people hiring you, it's used by the algorithm before the people even see your application as to which applications to show to them.
Companies doing this properly donāt factor it into their hiring at all.
They use it to show how many people are applying of each demo vs how many they hire. So if they get sued for not having enough of x minority they can protect themselves. Also if they are recruiting below industry standard for whatever group they can know and take action to boost that.
A lot of companies doing diversity stuff are primarily trying to diversify who is applying. Baring actually racist/homphobic/sexist hiring manages this will naturally diversify the companies.

Equal opportunity has nothing to do with hiring metrics, it simple says you won't discriminate against age, gender etc.
Affirmative action is where the metric comes in. It applies only to a minority group and excludes white people (and Asians etc.) actually. Which is why the huge lawsuit against Yale for not counting Asian as minority for admissions.
So, no there would never be a time where an entire African-American workforce will have a need to hire outside of that or anyone else with an upper hand.

This why on applications, asking your Race is still a question, not because the company cares, or that the people care, but the government cares.
It seems ridiculous because a lot of people canāt fathom why it matters what color a person is, who they like, whatās between their legs, or whether they had personal aftermarket equipment changes as long as they can do the job with as little fuss as possible.
Unfortunately, thereās still a few assholes out there with nothing better to do than get mad about people being different than them, and thereās a lot of those assholes in hiring positions.

Showed up late every single day, lazy as fuck and tried to get by doing the absolute bare minimum, went out on a smoke break at least twice an hour, tried to leave early every day, then when he was written up or they cut his hours or even thought about firing him heād pull the race card. I applied to a job that had a giant demographics section that had a subtitle that said something like 'The only people that care about this section is our lawyers when one of you sue us.'
I have no problem with them asking for preferred pronouns so they can address the person by that in the interview. Sexual orientation however is none of their business

Maybe when I'm old and retired the young generation can do something or whatever, but the OP just screams of corporate pinkwashing BS.
It shouldn't be on a job application. It's none of anybody business, and it should absolutely be held as a point against you if you think it's necessary to share this info about yourself with complete strangers.
I get that it seems absurd on the surface, but beneath that, certain groups are being treated differently by employers. It may be conscious or unconscious, but itās happening and this is the only way for the government to make sure able bodied people who are willing to work are being put to work without regard for things not related to the job. You ask why, well, the numbers show that the people these questions are for are in fact being discriminated against for some reason and voluntary surveys are the best that can be done in an economy thatās basically run as a dictatorship. Not referring to the political body. Just business. Everyone who is willing and able should be able to work imo.
Since when does sexual orientation have anything to do with the performance of a job? And why would someone even ask about pronouns? That is NOT a thing and people need to quit trying to make it something. When you start bowing down to someoneās āfeelingsā that is when Iām out. If someone is qualified for a job then they should be hired. Period. It doesnāt matter if youāre a man or a woman. This crap will be denounced soon enough because everyone is sick of it.

A company cannot ask you these questions. Asking questions like race, ethnicity, age, marital status, sexuality and sexual orientation is 100% Illegal and none of their God damn business.
Legal gender means what the government knows your gender as. What's on your birth certificate and driver's license so on. Basically your biological gender

Honestly, since youāre applying through indeed, itās probably just a pre-formatted application funnel that their third party hiring resource uses to sift through applicants and eliminate bots. There may be other job fields that need this question? Depending on the state? But I doubt the carrier even knows that question is on there. These companies have really gotten lazy with their hiring practices and AI HR.

mark everything prefer not to say. if they bring it up ask them why it matters to the job. if they want to know remind them it is illegal to discriminate based on race, orientation, and gender. if they want tot play stupid games they can win stupid prizes.
I understand the pronouns question because that's the way things are going now, and I really don't care enough to argue with someone's pronouns (you penis police weird me the *fuck* out), but the sexual orientation question only makes sense if this is for OTR training. My first company would pair straight men and women together, but they *had* to get a hotel room for one of them for the night.
They've got a DEI program going and they want information for their metrics. Although the pronouns thing is genuinely useful for a lot of peopleāit's annoying to say the least when people call you by the wrong gender, and plenty of people do have that problem. You don't have to answer if you don't want to.
