Cheaper alternatives to Solo Stove lite

I have the impression that the solo stove is basically a brazier that works on the same principle as a Dakota fire pit to reduce smoke. Doesn't seem like a camp stove as much as a backyard fire pit. There are a lot of cheaper options including wood burning camp stoves, solid fuel stoves, alcohol stoves and sterno stoves if you don't want to deal with gas. Most of these can be recreated with improvised materials and techniques as well. The most common one being the soda/beer can alcohol stove that I remember making as a kid.
