Stolen from r/AskWomenOver30: For those who began adult life during the Great Recession, how has that experience shaped your choices?

I was a late teen during the great recession of 2008. I didn't suffer, as my parents had a very steady job, but I remember other people who believed they'd be fine then losing their jobs. Also, getting the sort of job a teenager would do was hard. Subconsciously, I think I grew up thinking 'this could all implode at any moment'. I don't know whether today's teenagers, who've never known a recession, think that way - or maybe they do?
