First if you think Denjis only goal was touching boobs this shows me you're incredibly media illiterate because if that was his one and only goal the series would've been over at volume 4 or 5, it's literally explicitly shown that after denji gets his goal he's extremely unsatisfied and it's clear he wants more aka love and affection which ties back into his upbringing of basically growing up alone his whole childhood and it falls into his real goal having a normal life, I'd definitely say that's some pretty good character writing especially with the fakeout goal that only serves to reinforce his real goal. Second would you care to explain how his goal is in anyway generic? A generic shonen goal is something like wanting to get stronger or wanting to make a dead relative proud for an example yuji itadori, despite being one of my favorite mcs in anime, he has an extremely generic goal which basically boils down to following his dead relatives wish, you can dislike Denjis goal of touching boobs or his actual goal of wanting intimacy and love and wanting to have a normal life but you can't just say it's generic when it's clearly not. Finally even if touching boobs was his one and only goal why is that a bad thing exactly? A characters goal is meant to do a couple things, add to that characters characterization, guide the story if the character in question is the mc and lastly develop the story's central theme(optional if side character), I'd say the touching boobs as a goal does all of those well, it adds to Denjis characterization it also guides the story and when denji realizes that it's not that he wants to touch boobs but he wants love and affection and a normal life, it sets in place the main theme of csm of becoming more human because as denji continues through the story he gains something he never had, a family this changes how he acts how he views life and how he reacts to the world around him thus in his mind finally having somewhat of a normal life and therefore becoming more human, if you personally don't like his goal that's fine but writing it off as bad writing is stupid. INB4 I'm not reading allat here's a tldr: First Denjis only goal isn't to touch boobs it's just a minor goal that serves to hide his main goal of wanting a normal life Second Denjis goal is far from generic especially within the genre of shonen Lastly Denjis goal of touching boobs isn't Actually a bad goal and serves it's purpose of serving his actual goal pretty well.
