Do I need to replace entire wheel if the hub bolt is stripped?

If your wheel is mounted using bolts that thread into the hub, instead of nuts that thread on to studs, it will be necessary to replace the hub. If the bolt has been stripped, the threads in the hub are almost certainly damaged, and aren't individually replaceable. With studs, they can be replaced individually, instead of having to replace the entire hub. If you're looking at OEM components, I can imagine a hub costing several hundred dollars (CAD) at least. Adding labour to the price, and including a wheel, $1600 is not much. As for the wheel, it depends on what the problem is. If it's aluminum, it could be cracked, or it could have been loose and caused damage by moving around. Obviously someone's failed to maintain the fasteners, which is usually caused by mechanics who use an impact wrench to tighten the bolts, or owners who try to do it themselves without knowing how. Without pictures, I can only speculate. A word of warning: if you normally take the vehicle to the same shop, stop going there. I'm assuming they're abusing the bolts and are the ones who cost you this repair. Fasteners *must* be tightened with a torque wrench, especially safety-critical ones like this. If you're doing the work yourself (swapping your own wheels), stop, you're not doing it right. This could've easily been a wheel coming off the car, which is wildly dangerous. Also, if one bolt is damaged, there's a good chance the others aren't safe either. At the very least, have them all measured for stretch and have the hub threads inspected.
