For mil guys, what is “traditionally” competitive?

Having a ready room discussion today and without any reservist/active airlines guys around, we basically got stuck at a stalemate.
Question was, what was “traditionally” competitive coking out of the military for major/legacy airlines before the hiring boom?
Guys feel like we’re going back to “how it used to be” (especially for people with 4+ year horizons before separating) but no one could really define what that meant. As a single seat fighter guy, will barely passing 1500 with the ATP check ride done be enough? We don’t know anyone personally who separated in the mid 2000s or earlier, so has military jet time always been a way to step straight to majors/legacy airlines, or is that only a recent memory type scenario, and guys will need 2500+ mil hours to go straight to the promised land?
