Obligatory flair change post + write up

I passed my CSEL checkride this Thursday with Dr. Ray Morris at M01. I finished the requirements and filled out the IACRA in December of 2023. With many delays for weather and a cancellation from another DPE for scheduling issues, I had gone over a month since flying. My school’s checkride scheduler reached out to me at 8:30 on Wednesday morning for a 5 am Thursday departure to M01 with another commercial student. My instructor managed to get us a review flight that afternoon. The air was pretty bumpy with gusty winds but still overall productive. Now to the write up for the actual checkride. The oral was super easy, only a question or two per topic. 2 situations given regarding Commercial Privileges, one where the aircraft owner hires you to fly them in their aircraft, and one where you own the aircraft. Not asked to define Common Carriage or Private Carriage, AC 120-12A was never mentioned either. Knowing which mnemonic to use for a certain question was enough, did not even need to explain or list it out aside from half of the DECIDE Model. I needed to look up the illusions in the PHAK but was not asked to explain any. Dr Ray was easily satisfied with the most basic answers to his questions and would then follow up your answers with more information. The only answer I recall not knowing was why we lean the aircraft while taxiing on the ground. Dr. Ray explained that lead deposits can also build up in the cylinders and leaning the aircraft heats the additives in the fuel to burn off the lead. The flight portion of the flight was more difficult, due to my lower proficiency caused by long gaps between flights. Overall I was told to look outside more, visually check base and final before turning base. My steep turns were good, steep spiral needed a higher bank angle to keep the loops tighter, did not have enough pitch up on the first Chandelle, 2nd attempt much better. Lazy 8s, use roads for my outside reference points rather than distant objects, begin to bring the nose up sooner. Power off stall, overcorrected rudder at one point but satisfactory. During the flight, Dr. Ray would point out a road or other reference point on fore flight or out the window, and had me show him where it was. 1st landing attempt (normal landing) bounced off the nose gear and did an immediate go around - Dr. Ray determined to be the correct decision. 2nd landing attempt, got task saturated during between end of downwind through base, did not realize landing flaps were not set until short final, executed go around - Dr. Ray deemed it the correct decision. 3rd landing was successful. Soft field takeoff went well, soft field landing went well. PO 180 went well, I was consistently a bit low on final with the other landings so I kept the pattern tight on the 180, held off landing flaps until around 10-20 ft agl, landed just past the 1000 ft marks. Short field takeoff went well. Landed too short of the 1000 ft marks on the Short field landing back into M01, I believed I was higher off the ground than I actually was due to the runway being narrow and did not flare as long as I should have to make the landing. Dr. Ray told me to go around and retry, where I landed right on the marks. Overall great ground, I was extremely over prepared but very happy to be. I would have preferred to be more proficient for the flight portion but with such short notice I am fairly happy with my performance. It’s my first time doing one of these write ups, so criticism is welcome!
