I was mostly raised by my mom, and we didn't really eat together much (wasn't always enough food for us both to eat). When I was older and my mom remarried, we had family dinner most nights. My dad usually just got a pizza on the weekends, and we (him, and my two siblings) would usually eat in front of the TV. I live alone now and don't have a dining room, so I eat on the couch or over the sink (like a real man). I eat in my car sometimes.

Dinner is at home at the dinning room table with the rest of the family. I did this as a kid and do it as a parent. No devices allowed. Lunch is at my desk. Breakfast is… a snack at my desk during the week and a good sit-down place on the weekend.

I remember last time this topic was brought up here. I didn’t know so many people actually ate a the dinner table. Ours was basically for decorating growing up. We usually kind of ate in waves. Like, there would be some of us (I have 5 siblings) who kind of hung out around the kitchen and would start eating when the food was done. Some would come later because someone told them dinner was ready or just being they eventually found their way to the kitchen. We usually ate at the bar counter in the kitchen. We weren’t allow to eat it in our rooms and the TV wasn’t super big so no one try to watch it while eating. People did watch stuff on their phones. I dig it. It was relaxed. You come if you’re hungry and don’t if you weren’t. And we were really good at making sure the kitchen was clean by the time everyone went to sleep (‘y parents were serious about that). I, unfortunately, don’t think I’ll be able to do it with my kids because I’m sure my partner would want something more structured.

We eat at the table and watch something funny together. Sometimes it's a classic Simpsons episode, sometimes it's an episode of MST3K, sometimes it's something like Napoleon Dynamite. We keep it pretty low and also talk about our day. I soak up a hundred compliments because I cook from scratch most nights, haha. I do appreciate the ego boost. My daughter gets so hilariously dramatic when she finds out I'm making one of her favorite meals. And often she or my husband or both will help me cook, and clean as we go, so we're usually hanging out during food prep, too. It's my favorite part of the day.

Wherever I can, I try to eat dinner at the dining table with the family when I can but I'm running around so much with kid obligations that I often eat in the car on the way to something. Breakfast is a protein shake, kids get toast, both easy to devour on the run.

Growing up, I had an eat-in kitchen for breakfast and dinners. My lunch was always the school cafeteria. If we had guests, we used the dining room. As an adult - I generally leave the office for lunchtime and dine wherever I'm out. I hate eating at my desk. My wife and I live in a city condo that doesn't have it's own dining room. There is a counter with some stools, but that's mostly for guests - and when we're serving drinks/snacks. Usually, we just eat in the living room. Our coffeetable "rises" to be dining height, and we catch up on TV while eating. Otherwise, we dine-out a lot - which is really our time to be together, put our phones down and enjoy each other's company. I almost never eat in the car. I generally don't allow others to eat in the car either, as it always means having to clean up crumbs later. Exceptions for road trips.

My kitchen has a breakfast bar, and I have most of my meals there. When my GF is over we use the table for dinner and the breakfast bar for, well, breakfast. I rarely eat in my car, if I'm getting fast food I'm close enough to home that I eat there.

Growing out almost always at the dining room table with rare exceptions. As an adult I’ve mostly eaten at a table or island of some sort and never in my room when I rented a room in a house. My spouse and I mostly eat at the dining room table and occasionally on the couch in the media room when a new episode of a show we like is out.

We recently got a new kitchen table specifically to make it more appealing to eat there. We have a large eat in kitchen, no separate dining room. We had fallen into the habit of eating in the living room, in front of the TV. Now we've moved the TV out of the living room and into a study, and we have this nice new kitchen table, so we've been eating there more often.

I usually at breakfast around 630am, after getting my kids lunches made for school. Almost always alone, at the dining room table, reading on my phone. Lunch around 1130am, also alone at the table. Breakfast: Either the dining table or on the sofa, or at my work desk at home. Lunch: Same places as breakfast if at home, or in the lunch room if in office. Dinner: Mostly at the dining table, but sometimes on the sofa. For the meals at home, I try to always have dinner with my wife and daughter to encourage eating together as a family at least once a day. Breakfast or lunch is with them if possible, but I often end up eating alone due to our differing schedules. For the meals in office, I tend to eat with colleagues or alone about equally as often.

When we are home fiiance as I usually eat in our room and the kids(17&&18) in their rooms. We eat in the living room together on occasion if we have a movie we want to all watch. The only time our kitchen table gets uses is when we have someone over. When we go to my mom's for Sunday dinners we all eat at the table. As a kid mom and dad would eat at the table while my brother and I would eat at the bar right by them. Not sure why we didn't just all 4 sit at the table.

We are couple, (old farts) no kids at home We have a great room...kitchen, dining area, living room area all combined. About 950 or more square feet. So we eat at the "dining" table and might view the television if we want while eating. Generally not during dinner. Music is nice for dinner. If we are "in front" of the tv....in our sunken living room (3 steps down). And decide to have finger food or snacks for dinner, then we set up a folding oak table for the food and pick while watching a movie or something. Eating in the car is only when we are traveling.

As a family, the only meal we eat together at is dinner (evening meal) and breakfast on Sunday mornings, both meals are at our dinning room table. Breakfast and lunch the rest of the week is pretty much everyone for themselves. During the work week, if I'm working from home I'll eat at my desk (watching YouTube or scrolling readit, if I'm at the office I'll eat in the cafeteria. DD eats at school, DH takes his lunch break in his car in the employee parking lot (no idea why, maybe for privacy? I've never asked). At home DD will eat in her playroom in the basement (usually while watching TV) and DH eats in our family room.

I only eat breakfast on the weekends (and sometimes don't even do that). With my family usually. Always with my wife. We eat at the dining room table, but it is an open floorplan with the kitchen, dining room, and family room all in the same massive room. My kids will eat with each other at the table during the week. No screens allowed. Lunch, I eat by myself. At my desk in the (home) office. Dinner, I eat sometimes with my family, but almost always with my wife. At the dining room table. Kids eat together, sometimes with us sometimes not. But I will wait to eat until my wife is home depending on schedules (work, kids sports, etc). No TV. We banned screens for the most part... but we will frequently "forget" and use our phones. The exception would be our little ones watching some toddler shows just so my wife and I can get a peaceful moment to eat.

There is literally no fixed pattern. Meals at our home were prepped and then you ate whenever you were hungry however you felt like it. Might be sitting at a table with someone else, might be taken alone if your room, might be done socially in front of a TV. There was just a point at which time dinner would be made available and it's on everyone else from there.

Now with just two of us sometimes we eat in the kitchen at the bar, or on nights when one/both had to work late we might eat while watching a movie. But 99% of our meals at home are cooked from scratch and eaten off actual plates.
