That would really depend on the type of cusine, some foods are more filling than others. Is it a carvery? Probably only going back up for a second plate. Is it pan Asian? Probably having 3 or 4 small plates with different things on.

Probably twice what anyone here would believe. I also load up on meat and avoid fillers. I take all the shredded duck but no pancakes etc, pick the beef prawns etc out of dishes to avoid noodles etc. I get the carbs I need from the dumplings and spring rolls because they are amazing

Maybe 5. I pick and choose carefully, don't load up on carbs, avoid familar dishes. Chinese I would go for duck, prawns, a tofu dish but not get them to do a stir fry or have sweet and sour chicken and rice.

I find the whole concept of all you can eat reallly disgusting. A vast room of people gorging themselves on cheap mass produced junk. My pal dragged me to cosmos once, never been back

Not everyone literally eats all they can eat though, some people just want to leave full. I have a huge appetite so most ordinary places don't fill me up so I either have to go to carvery or buffet.

Not been for years but used to have 2 full plates and one snack plate, so 2.5. Started strongman training now though and my god it makes you so hungry, feel like I could clean the place out now. Will have to give that a try

Only places like that I go to are the Brazilian BBQ places, can’t really say how many plates full as the meat keeps getting brought round. I make sure not to fill myself up on carbs at the salad buffet though, stick to salad stuff only

3 plates avoid the carbs and go for the highly flavoured stuff, small piles of food but fill the plate with as wide of a variety as possible, always leave room for dessert if there's some kind of hot cake or apple crumble in there.

Now I don't train any more it's probably 4ish, but I can have bad days where I eat 2 and I'm done. I used to compete in powerlifting and researched competitive eating techniques to aid that, and all you can eat buffets would get demolished. 3 plates of jumbo prawns, 2 plates of sushi, 2 plates of seafood veg/noodles, about 6 desserts and 2-3 cups of jasmine tea all whilst being a svelte 13 stone guy. I did that once and went to my friend's. He told me I didn't look too great and we all passed out at his house. Took me until the end of a movie (plus drive back, so at least 2 hours) to feel normal again.

If it was say a Chinese buffet I’d probably do a plate of starters, one of mains, then one plate of my favourite items again from the first two plates and then a small dessert which is the worse part for me. In a Cosmo type restaurant it’s harder becuase I don’t like mixing too many cuisines on one plate. Maybe 4 like you I guess

I went to a tai AYCE and had 3 flat lined semi heaped and a full english 2 filled to the brim plates I love me brekky Theres a tactic in how to do it eating a lot night before helps and timing it I have a brekky AYCE at 11ish they shut at 12 so nice and fresh that tends to be where my local is lol so ofc lastly observe the battlefield see what's low and maybe take an extra 10 mins to order your beverage.

I went to an American style all you can eat buffet once. Ate 4 plates of food. It was subpar at best and it felt disgusting. As I recall the last plate was lasagna and I thought I was going to throw up. Never again.

I frequent an Indian buffet quite often in my home town and my usual tactic is about 4 plates. Using there as an example a standard trip would include: 1 starter - pakora, potato fritters, poppadom etc 2 mains - rice with 2/3 curries I like the look of, then go up again and get the ones I couldn’t fit on the plate first time round 1 dessert - wash it all down with some ice cream or whatever’s on offer

The only place I really go that's AYCE is Indian buffet. One side plate of starters, one dinner plate of mains, and a couple of poppadoms. Comfortably full but not overfed, and definitely get value for my £13. When I was younger I'd AYCE until I was fit to burst. But when I started comparing quantities with à la carte prices it was easier to find a good balance between trying everything I liked the look of, and not regretting a mouthful.
