reverse 2 year old sulfated battery?

Battery is a 2022 (2 years old), and dead. Tester showed its sulfated. Is it worth it trying to reverse? On a similar note, this is a newly purchased 2003 Toyota Avalon- so the sulfated batty might also be a sign of alternator issues…

Battery Desulphation
Batteries in a vehicle will be fine in the car and hooked up during charging or desulfation. Desulfation is low amperage and doesn’t heat up the battery significantly.
We have reconditioned thousands of sulphated lead acid and acid glass mat (AGM) batteries.
You don’t need to disconnect the cables from a battery when charging or desulphating. Just use the vehicle manufacturer’s jump starting contact points.
Lead sulfate is formed when a lead acid battery is discharged. When the battery is recharged, the lead sulfate is transformed back to metallic lead on the lead plates and sulfuric acid. (On non-refillable AGM batteries, the acid is in a paste in the glass mats.)
To restore a sulfated battery: FIRST If Possible on lead acid batteries (only if battery caps are easily removable ~ Not Maintenance Free Batteries) check acid levels and top up with distilled water before and after charging; Do Not Overfill.
THEN Use an actual desulphating battery charger that uses about 16.5 volts or 2.75 volts per cell, and a low current to pulse through the battery for 2-24 hours.
After desuphating or reconditioning a battery,
FINISH With an equalizing charge:
For a 12 volt battery, charge it once a month with a starting voltage of about 14.5 volts for at least one hour, or every 10 discharge cycles.
Then test the Battery’s cold cranking amps immediately And Again after 48 hours of sitting uncharged.
Harbor Freight sells a VIKING 12V Digital Battery and System Tester analyzer that measures CCA’s for $39.99.
If the cold cranking amps have not increased, the charger did not desulphate the battery.
We have purchased $5,000 desulphators that are made in South Korea that work, But they are too expensive for home or farm use for what they actually do.
For desulphating batteries, we prefer a
Jumpstarting Schumacher SC1564 2/6/30/100-Amp Fully Automatic Battery Charger
That can be purchased at Walmart for $79.
A periodic monthly Schumacher 30 amp equalizing charge will desulfate and recondition a 12 or 6 volt battery better than other chargers that we have found.
NOTE; For modern digital electronic chargers, sometimes you must hook a good battery to a sulfated battery to start the desulphation process. 1. Connect a good battery to the charger & turn on. 2. Pair the sulfated battery with jumper cables. 3. Remove the good battery after the charger accepts the sulphated battery (15 minutes to several hours). 4. Continue charging only the sulphated battery. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cheap battery desulphators like ‘Pulse Tech’ that don’t plug into a 110 V outlet to charge are useless!
They do nothing because the cold cranking amps do not increase.
They are worthless Chinese gimmicks.
All they do is light a led that slowly drains the battery!
!¡! CAUTION !¡! There are individuals that charge $47 on the internet for this same exact information!

Use a battery charger that has a desulfate mode. It might also be called repair or conditioning mode or something like that. Even if it doesn't work then you have a decent charger that can keep your new battery in good condition. Check the alternator voltage and the battery draw with the alternator turned off, to see if the car is damaging the battery.

Most modern solid state battery chargers have a recondition mode. But reversing sulfation depends on how bad the sulfation is and how long it's been forming. If the crystals have hardened, it's almost impossible to reverse.

I used to recover sulfated lead acid battery using a DIY desulfator back then. It;'s just a relay that oscillates and uses the shock voltage produced by the coils to melt the layers of sulfate. You can now buy those trickle.fixer chargers now.
