How necessary is it to GAP a spark plug?

Every YouTube vid I watch they always say "you gotta use a gap tool!" I changed the plugs in my 07' Kia Sportage and didn't gap them. Before changing, I HAD a flashing check engine light, and acceleration was a nightmare. Changing the plugs made a night & day difference, NOW it feels like a new car again at 165k miles!!

Most plugs come pre-gapped. I'd be more worried about why you didn't change the (presumably original) spark plugs until they were so worn out that you had a severe misfire.

Nope. They’ll likely be pretty close if not spot on off the shelf.

I personally check the gap on mine before I install them even though they come pre gapped!
