Torn Between Fun and Functionality for a Family-Friendly Second Car – Thoughts?

Hey everyone, diving into the deep end here trying to pick a second car for the family that brings a bit of zest to our garage. The wife’s got the minivan sorted, so I'm eyeing something that can handle quick jaunts around town and the occasional day trip, all while not shying away from a bit of fun behind the wheel. Here's the shortlist after some test driving: 1. Acura Integra Type-S (ITS): Really dug the drive and the aesthetics, not to mention the slick manual transmission. It's roomy enough in the back for a couple of car seats. Though, the absence of rear A/C vents and charging ports is a letdown. Can't help but reminisce about my RSX Type-S days with this one. 2. Subaru Impreza WRX Limited/GT: This one genuinely plastered a smile on my face. Surprising backseat room for the kiddos in their seats and it's got those handy rear charging ports. No A/C vents back there, though. The lack of a hatchback version has me questioning the practicality, especially regarding stroller storage. Heard about the rough interior ride, which might be a downer for the family. The GT's Comfort mode might be a fix, but I'm curious about your take. Also, the mod potential here is tempting. 3. Audi S5 Sportback: The incentives are tempting, and it boasts the best interior luxury-wise. It's a bit pricier, and while I love the hatchback and the drive, the value proposition seems iffy. 4. Volkswagen Golf R: This was leading my list but it's been tough to get a test drive and the dealers suck to deal with because they have such limited supply. The tech is appealing despite not being a huge fan of the body. The GTI Autobahn felt okay as a stand-in, but it didn't wow me. I'm swinging back and forth mainly between the WRX and ITS. The WRX seems like a fun project car, and despite some interior quality concerns, it felt alright to me. How it'll hold up against the tornado that is toddlers, I'm not sure. As for the ITS, it would be more of a keep-it-as-it-is situation. I'm totally open to suggestions beyond these options as well. While I'm mainly looking at 4-door sedans for that blend of practicality and fun, I'm all ears if you think there's something else I should consider. Would love to hear your experiences, especially if you've juggled similar considerations or have insights into how these cars might age with family life. Mods, maintenance, the whole shebang – hit me with it. Thanks in advance for the help!
