Crazy how the logo is also a star. And how the event, for the tour, is hosted by Lockheed. And how that location, a nonprofit, also restores plenty of other planes and knows how to keep stuff in the air. Even F-117's, which is particularly fascinating. Funny coinkidinks, indeed.
Yes. Top Gun and Maverick exist as a propaganda film franchise. A great one, but a propaganda film nonetheless.
Countless films throughout the years drop hints or outright advertise upcoming military tech. The attack RAH-66 helicopters from Hulk(2003), mention of the "Navy working on the rail gun for 20 ships but I've only seen one on a battleship" mention from Arnold Schwarzenegger's Eraser...the entirety of Stealth.
I think it's funny skunkworks was allowed to finally advertise a mockup/diversion of an upcoming product, seeing as talk about an sr71 successor has been going on for a long, long time now. I'm sure that scramjet and hypersonic tests from the early 2000s were paramount for this vehicle to work at scale with humans on board.
Anyhoo, can't wait to finally see it for real, whenever the hell the unveiling happens.
I doubt anyone is reading that, when you call a couple fun action movies propaganda š¤£. If you come out of a movie like Top Gun, and your main takeaway is that it was propaganda, you might be the problem. I think you might be confusing the words propaganda, and advertising. But š¤·āāļø
I know this plane is fictional but it was designed with the actual LM Skunkworks. I wonder how many design secrets of a potential secret real aircraft are hiding in plain sight in the Darkstar?
The scenes in Top Gun Maverick were filmed at China Lake Naval Air station CA.
When the aircraft was manoeuvred out of the hangar for filming several countries satellites reportedly adjusted their position so they could take a closer look. Seemingly unaware that it was nothing more than a movie prop.
Where did you find this picture? Pic looks way off to me, besides the top secret military spy plane that barely exists being in plain view lol. I would be shocked if someone with the username āshitposting420ā posted something fake. The jury is still out š¤£
This is a picture of the movie prop used in Top Gun Maverick. I saw it in real life, too, a while back at the Edwards Airshow idk, where they keep it, but I'm guessing it's probably somewhere in the SoCal area. Although I do remember it being slightly bigger than this.
When it showed up at Edwards AFB, it startled many a Threat nation to the point of changing several satellites orbits to increase coverage of America's premiere test center.
Boy, were they disappointed when they saw the wings detach and be trailered to a warehouse, heh!
Hey man, I lost the instructional manual for mine when it got drenched in the rain! Would you mind sharing a .pdf copy when you have the time? š You'll save me the 2 hour drive to the Lockheed Martin contractor showroom š¤£. Thanks in advance šš!! I'll promise not to be so careless next time!! š¤

Looks like it's at the Palm Springs Air Museum at the moment. Not sure if that's going to be it's permanent home.
