Are US catholics really more conservative than their European counterparts?

Hey, so not one myself but from a country that's been mostly Catholic since well roman times I guess. I get a feel from what I see online that catholics in the US are really conservative. Now I know th church is officially very conservative but obviously most catholics in western Europe don't follow that, abortion in france is even on it's way to become a constitutional right. Are catholics in the US really that conservative compared to those from western Europe or is it just a distorted view?

Pretty much every survey of political attitudes by religion shows that American Catholics are slightly *less* conservative than Americans as a whole on most issues (including abortion). This is in stark contrast to, say, Poland where Catholic voters are the most conservative.

In terms of economy they would be called leftwing. Polsih catholics love very much social benefits given by current gov, but yeah our Ayatollahs are conservative in terms of sex and scoial life.

i’m somewhat catholic (likely more agnostic) myself, i dont know why people are so conservative over a faith that probably isn’t true. it’s so irrational if you really have a sane mind lmao
