SJC-SLC A220 weight limited?

Had a friend who flew SJC-SLC in an A220 and was told the flight was "weight limited", which surprised me quite a bit. It's a relatively short flight, so I figured that you could load the cargo holds and passengers pretty full, but maybe I'm wrong. It's only 500nmi against the aircraft's 3000nmi range. At the time, the density altitude in SLC was ~6800 feet, which I wouldn't think would be a big deal with an A220 and the runways at SLC (10-12k feet).
I know it's all speculation, but I'm really curious what other factors could be at play. What situations am I not thinking of?
