You know?
-No stupid point system
-no waiting/pending list
-being overshadowed
-welcome to all
-freedom and customization options
You know, just to post my Artwork, Videos, and Memes.
JonC_ATX@reddit
Yeah I get irritated all the time. Just to ask some simple questions about diy stuff. I can’t even post the question of some subs. I wish Reddit wasn’t so restrictive. I’m not here to debate or anything like that. Some topics are hard to search out on YouTube. That’s when Reddit really helps out. Especially if it’s just a quick question. Still, unless someone else has the same exact question, sucks having your hands tied! I constantly wish for a Reddit alternative. I’m not interested in building karma points, or any of the social hierarchy bs.
Stiltzkinn@reddit
Just host a forum.
Otto500206@reddit
Forums don't have a united feed system though. It would be very good for forums to have a system like that. It's actually kinda possible(Taptalk can do it for example.)but no one cares about it afaik. Until that, I don't think forums will beat any other Reddit alternative.
theurbanshadow@reddit
Agree. Try depvana.com
It is a place to create and explore topics in a structured way. You decide how deep the rabbit hole goes with no censorship. Create your own topic room or find someone else's and post any content you wish.
Try it out and let me know what you think
Dry_Effort4907@reddit
I just signed up for depvana and it has a nice UI and has potential, but it looks like it's just starting out as there don't appear to be many topics yet, if any.
theurbanshadow@reddit
Nice. You are right. It is a brand new site with not many users. But so are every site in the beginning. We are a little group of guys trying to initialize some content and get the site going, as we believe there need to be a no-censorship alternative to the current options.
If it wouldn't be too much of a hassle for you, pls create a topic about something you care about, or anything at all, or make a post. This is a small effort, but a huge to step towards getting an alternative site started. I know from the team behind that the earliest posters will be rewarded.
No matter what you do, thx for stepping by. If you can think of any improvements pls let the team know at https://depvana.com/topic/4 . All the best, cheers.
Otto500206@reddit
Why people are using this subreddit to post ads of their shitty sites!?
theurbanshadow@reddit
If you change your mind feel free to stop by. Any feedback is appreciated.
Stiltzkinn@reddit
Discourse has it.
Otto500206@reddit
How?
Stiltzkinn@reddit
It has already and customize with add ons. I am speaking of Discourse not Discord.
Otto500206@reddit
Did I mentioned anything about Discord? Plus, afaik, there is no app or website for that, it needs that. The format isn't the issue, uniting forums under one platform is. Activity Pub isn't good enough for it.
Stiltzkinn@reddit
It's PWA and there is an app.
rdesimone410@reddit
Haven't actually used either of those, but these two:
promise to go that direction, basically just crypto identities to sign stuff you post and relays to distribute the content. But no central authority. They are more Twitter than Reddit at the moment, but in theory that could be solved with different clients/layouts (just as with Lemmy/Mastondon).
theurbanshadow@reddit
try depvana.com

CodenameAwesome@reddit
Sounds like you want 4chan
theurbanshadow@reddit
Have you tried depvana.com ?
An even better alternative than 4chan. It is much more structured and anonymous account are allowed.
theurbanshadow@reddit
I hear you, been thinking the same thing. Your solution is the new site:
depvana.com
A great alternative to reddit. NO shenanigans or pointless point systems. It is a place to create and explore topics in a structured way. You decide how deep the rabbit hole goes with no censorship. Create your own topic room or find someone else's and post any content you wish. No video posting yet, but it is a feature they say will be coming soon.
OneMechanic9385@reddit
I actually haven't got banned on Facebook for ages and YouTube ban I get quite often but usually only 24hrs, he is definitely worse than Facebook, unsure if paid or unpaid agender or if due to compliance reasons, while we call all understand some content just shouldn't be on the internet what about someone with bi-polar for example(not me) are they just never meant to speak and does Reddit themselves think they should shoot themselves? Because I don't think so. Let us turn on auto filter disregard everything I say because obviously once many doing that it's no longer a bad term and just avoids illegal issues
Pamasich@reddit
What do you mean with that one?
Have you checked out Lemmy/kbin/mbin/PieFed? They're one big family of alternatives that talk to each other and share their content.
Lemmy doesn't have points (assuming you mean the karma system, not voting itself).
kbin and mbin do have points, but they're not limitations. You can post even if you don't have any yet.
PieFed I'm not sure, it has a attitude percentage for users which might be a fancy point system, and not sure how it's used by the site.
Depending on the server you sign up for, they might require accounts to get manually approved. But that's a matter of a day or two, not an actual wait list where you have to wait in line.
The special thing about these is that anyone can run their own. It's like if everyone could run their own Reddit. This means it's basically guaranteed that anyone can find a Lemmy server that accepts them. And if it still somehow doesn't work out, you can run your own and communicate with everyone else from your own personal server.
Lemmy has various different frontends (the actual website, as opposed to the server-side software) to choose from (including an old reddit one). I don't know how customization options are beyond that on Lemmy and PieFed though.
kbin/mbin has various themes to choose from, support for subreddit css and also custom personal css (but just use proper userstyles, it's more powerful), and several other customization options like rounded corners or infinite scrolling toggles.
Not sure what level or area of customization you're looking for, might be wise to define that better.
Like on Reddit, Lemmy/kbin/mbin allow you to create your own subreddit/community/magazine, in case you meant that with freedom. PieFed doesn't, but you can use any created in the other three.
Kinglink@reddit
The real problem I have with Lemmy (I just checked in on it) is there's good posts, but there's so few comments. The community on Reddit is what really excelled, and I don't feel like Lemmy really hit critical mass, if anything it had it's moment, and failed to really get over that first big hill of users, and then the users slacked off (I admit I'm one).
Not saying Lemmy is bad, but kind of am... It's lonely there, which is a self fulfilling problem.
Pamasich@reddit
Well, it definitely depends on the communities imo. If I look at the frontpage of lemmy.world or lemm.ee (the one I linked) right now, I see a post with 584 comments on top, then some more with 100+ as I scroll down.
It's not the heights Reddit can reach, but it's more than high enough in my opinion.
Of course, not every post reaches that high, but neither does this one. It's also only sitting at 15 comments currently.
Kinglink@reddit
I'm sure it matters. But I like games. So I'm subbed to games@sh.itjust.works... First page? 30 comments.
Lemmy world has their own games. It's a little healthier, two posts on the front page with 60 comments. (though I feel like that's almost an outlier... But still that's the number of weak front page posts on reddit for gamers)
... Yeah those aren't reddit numbers but so many communities feel like they're on life support too. Don't get me wrong, I WANT lemmy to succeed, I WANT discussion, I want to kick the reddit habit, but Lemmy feels like howling into the void and hoping there's people out there. I understand the idea of the federated network, but it feels like the federated network has kind of caused problems with the idea of communities.
sjfhajikelsojdjne@reddit
I mean, that's the amount of comments posts used to get when I first joined reddit. You aren't going to find a website that's instantly populated.
bodhi_rio@reddit
u/kevfilms2x2 have you tried NOSTR?
Stiltzkinn@reddit
Nostr is more akin to X and Mastodon than social agregator.
bodhi_rio@reddit
And what are the social networks that you consider to be social agregators?
Stiltzkinn@reddit
Digg, Reddit, Lemmy, Lobsters, Tildes, Stacker News, HN.
bodhi_rio@reddit
Sorry, what's the difference between twitter and reddit, for instance?
Stiltzkinn@reddit
Reddit and Lemmy are content aggregation platforms with voting systems, while X is a microblogging service. Reddit is centralized, while Lemmy is decentralized. X has a character limit and focuses on short messages, while Reddit and Lemmy allow for longer posts and discussions.
bodhi_rio@reddit
X is so fuc#ed up. It's a nightmare. The only good thing there is the lack of censorship. Although there's reach limitations through shadowban.
Stiltzkinn@reddit
Explain nightmare, even if you fucked up the algo for your timeline you can still use Lists. Meanwhile Reddit Popular is a propaganda nightmare.
bodhi_rio@reddit
My point is about what kind of reach, the audience that is possible to have there; and not what you can read at twitter.
Stiltzkinn@reddit
They have a mild hate speech censor which they limit your views to audience.
bodhi_rio@reddit
I’ve been told that there’s lots of shadowban over there.
Stiltzkinn@reddit
Yeah there is like how mods totally ban here. It's not a totally free speech platform as Musk likes to advertise.
bodhi_rio@reddit
Moderation and ban here is explicit; over there is done on the shadows and the person doesn't realize the censorship.

Zombocom
Fade_Dance@reddit
Zombocom is truly the future of social media and the universe. This is Zombocom and welcome to you who have come, to Zombocom.
PM_ME_an_unicorn@reddit
What about a Lemmy instance without downvotes ?
You can use tons of front-end, for example https://p.lemmy.world/ and https://old.lemmy.world/ or https://alexandrite.app/lemmy.world offer 3 different way to visualize lemmy.world (but seriously go to another instance it's already 50% of Lemmy)
the fediverse is a welcoming community, you'd find tons of leftists/queers/neurodivergent creating a a very open minded environment
And of course you'll find community to post your content
pokeKingCurtis@reddit
I mean that's the whole point of this sub right

Check out Usenet, aka Reddit 0.1 😅
