I’m not one of those “rah rah electric cars are for pussies this is ‘murica” kind of guys, but they really are rushing way too fast with some of the regulations on phasing out combustion engines. The infrastructure to support electric cars at scale just isn’t there yet, and isn’t particularly close either. Not saying every company is gonna go back to making gas guzzlers but I think we’re going to see a pivot back away from ev’s soon, at least temporarily until the infrastructure catches up. Or maybe some of the investments in hydrogen engines will really take off because from what little I know, they honestly seem a bit better.

You realize that the infrastructure to support gas and oil, nationwide, literally would cover nearly 3/4 of all vehicles on the road being instantly swapped over to electric today, right? How much closer would you like it? By far the biggest issue is the growing pains in cities where they haven't put charging plugs everywhere, which is a relatively cheap and a relatively quick fix. Trivial within the decade remaining for 2035. As for "rushing way too fast," I'm also unsure how you figure. We're being faced with the destruction of over half the life on Earth. Cutting gas vehicles literally cuts 80% of oil production's purpose. Investing in the energy sector to stabilize the grid EVERYWHERE means better lives, more jobs, more access, and reduces reliance on fossil fuels to near zero. It allows us to be fully self reliant on power generation. It's very much the right time.

Well then you’d know it’s not a “relatively quick fix” lmao. And even aside from that, there’s so many other factors that go into the conversation. Like I said, I’m not anti electric car, but acting like it’s as simple as just “everything switches over real quick” is just a fairytale. Of course we shouldn’t destroy the earth, but it’s not some radical take to look around and say the infrastructure isn’t there yet, or even close to being there. It’s just common knowledge. Hopefully it gets there someday, but it’s not happening as fast as some people hoped. And I have no idea where you’re getting that 80% number from because [this](https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/pipeline-us-and-global-oil-consumption/#:~:text=Library%20of%20Congress.,used%20to%20power%20motor%20vehicles) says its half that. Houses use more fossil fuels. If protecting the planet in your main concern you should be pushing for more solar and wind energy instead of worrying about cars.

We have a decade you absolute troglodyte, before the gas engines are stop-sale for most setups. At that point, there's still 15 years before the stop-sale on gas. 80% of oil company profits are from fuel sales. The REASON it's used for power is because that fuel sale make it cheap enough to be competitive in the power sector. Without the fuel subsidies, that industry completely changes and likely dies. You don't even understand the conversation

Yeah, this is what I thought to when I saw what it took to make electric vehicles. Specifically the batteries and mining resources for it. I think we'll have close to a majority over time but not in the next 10-20 years timeline. Felt like more companies should have had more hybrid technology. Always could be wrong though.

Listen, I'm about as vehemently against Ford as someone who's worked on too many of 'em can be; Ford is the better manufacturer, and it's Tesla that's a decade or more away from being anywhere near as good. Tesla ate the lunch of every auto maker by charging (lol) ahead with EVs; companies like Ford and VW have incredible mass and momentum, so they could never pivot so quick, but they can also easily scale harder than Tesla can even dream of. Ford alone produced four times more vehicles; not all EV, sure, but Ford has a literal century of building up their capacity and experience... and it's been slowly shifting gears. This is only looking at making the cars, not even talking about everything else that surrounds automotive manufacturing like support, parts, servicing, logistics, etc., which again compared to every single other company, Tesla is complete dog shit.

I'm not here to be a Ford apologist lol, [my disdain for them](https://www.fordproblems.com/swollen-lug-nuts/) almost matches my general pissiness of VW and BMW ;) If Tesla can pull a SpaceX and work in spite of Elmo instead of for him, they could do pretty well. As it stands, Tesla will continue to lose the ground they claimed to the likes of Toyota, Honda, Ford, Mazda, VW ... Ford is a better manufacturer than Tesla in the same way that most of the others are as well; you think Tesla can really compete against such giants like Tata? Jeeeeez :P

It’s more efficient and doesn’t weigh much more than a similar ice pickup. Has pretty good suspension and 4 wheel steering which is supposed to be really good. The version of FSD just barely coming out now which is based entirely on machine learning instead of tons rules looks pretty decent.

His brain was always broken, but social inhibition is extremely real and can be very much subconscious. He was destined to reach the "I can take the mask off" point anyway. Probably wasn't even a conscious decision. That inhibition is very much a matter of threat assessment, *anxiety* Everyone experiences anxiety. It's just risk assessment: They'll laugh at me They won't take me seriously They'll be mad I'll get fired We adjust our behaviours, we adjust our *thoughts*, etc. 1. He has had success in a certain field (or two!) 2. His cognitive bias leads him to believe that makes him an expert in everything (Appeal to false authority, you might say) 3. Tesla itself is essentially a faceless corporate cult, which uses musk as a figurehead. It doesn't matter how bad the products are, people will buy them, people will rationalize why they bought, and then will defend the brands awful quality control, horrible end of service life, and the insane cost of replacement batteries. Nothing will change that any time soon, I don't think.
