California Aeronautical University

I am choosing a variety of aviation universities as a start to my aviation career. CAU stands out to me and I want to know if it is a good choice to attend university there. I will be doing the B.S in aeronautics degree
TypeRating@reddit
Useless degree, overpriced flight training.
Even-Artichoke6955@reddit (OP)
Can you explain?
TypeRating@reddit
An aeronautics degree is absolutely worthless. It has no place in society. And you'll spend 2-3x more to get your ratings at CAU than you would at a part 61 mom & pop flight school.
Even-Artichoke6955@reddit (OP)
Yea but I need a b.s in something in order to be able to compete as a proper Candidate once I reach the airlines. I can still apply without having a b.s but I'm not taking any chances. Now im just asking about a review of the school and if it's as advertised. I found mixed reviews online and can't tell if it's legitimate or not. Please guide.
TypeRating@reddit
I literally just told you. Get a degree in something else and flight train at a mom and pop.
Historical_Bench2659@reddit
Reading comprehension is a must for pilots. Get a degree in Math.
Simple_Tax_4118@reddit
Fly at your local airport while you get your degree in something else. Trust me… J went to this “school”
Wonderful-Estimate23@reddit
How was it ? This was the only school I found that can let me use the gi bill without having to pay outta my pocket.
Royal-Campaign4701@reddit
UND is your best bet. Great school, speaking from experience. They have a smaller campus in AZ that works with a community college so you can use your GI bill through them, or go to their main Campus in ND. Look into the VR&E program
Simple_Tax_4118@reddit
They’ll take every penny possible from your GI bill. Honestly those classes are not even worth the price. You won’t be able to transfer those classes out to a different school because their accreditation is so low. It’s not an accreditation like UND and ERU have.
PublicEmphasis2779@reddit
Is there somewhere that you would recommend
Simple_Tax_4118@reddit
If you’re in California, there are a couple of flight schools in Southern California. However, the uphill battle right now is finding a DPE available well in advance.
PurplePupil8@reddit
What location did you attend?
And did you have to get any loans, or were you able to get enough money through grants, scholarships, etc for the school?
Strawb3rrymousse@reddit
What’s it like at CAU?
GodsChosenPilot@reddit
Did you end up going to the school?
I’m choosing them because it’s 100% funded for me with my G.I. Bill and VR&E.
In fact it’s the only flight school I can go to that’s fully funded.
What was your experience?
Royal-Campaign4701@reddit
Go to UND, I’ve been looking into CAU…but I think I’m going back to UND. It’s literally ranked top 5 flight schools in the world. And the graduating rate is pretty good.
GodsChosenPilot@reddit
Best of luck! See you in the airlines!
Altruistic_Cable6405@reddit
I’m considering doing the same with g.i bill & VR&E. I’m also wondering if I can use fasfa too
chillygu@reddit
I’m considering them for the exact reason to fund training through my GI Bill. Have you started with them?
GodsChosenPilot@reddit
I’m still awaiting approval for med screening but I still intend to as soon as I get clearance.
If you’re a vet, I highly recommend you get your med screening first as that could be the longest process, depending on whether or not you admit to receiving a Va disability
chillygu@reddit
I’ve got my med screening with no VA disability and I’m about done with PPL. I was looking into CAU because I was hoping the flight training would be covered by GI bill. I just wondered how the financial process went for you?
GodsChosenPilot@reddit
After they checked and seen that I had 36 months of G I bill, it was good to go and approved.
First year, full covered. Second year G.I. Bill will fall short. You will need Vr&E to cover but if you have no Va disabilities, you don’t qualify for it.
The same is with the last year, the Gi bill will fall short.
You only need a 10% service connection in order to use Vr&E.
That’s your free money to get fully funded flight training.

Awesome! Thanks for the info!

Also, their credits DO NOT WORK AT OTHER SCHOOLS!!! They were not accepted by MT. San Antonio College nor Texas Technical Institute!
ImmediateGuarantee41@reddit
This flight college is a SCAM!! They mistreat their students through blatant favoritism and rob you of your money right in front of you. They do not deliver on any of their promises and have a MASSIVE turnover rate! They are also on two watchlists by the government one of them being a high financial risk warning. Their staff do not do anything to help aid in the success of their students and students often end up spending upwards of $300k+ when promising less and 3 years of college. Some students have been there for 5 years. I spent $65k on 1 year of schooling and that was JUST my instrument rating. Please be aware! It’s not worth it! And they waste your Gl Bill benefits if you have it!!! I will provide proof if need be. there is so much wrong with this school it really isn’t worth it and this is coming from someone who has had their dreams crushed over this school. I was fine when I went to 2 other part 61 schools. Also most of the other reviews are employees being asked to post them! I’ve heard it from their mouths at the school.
Wonderful-Estimate23@reddit
The administration sucks man they take about a week to get back to you
Altruistic_Cable6405@reddit
Why?
AbbreviationsLong358@reddit
Don’t Do It, graduated last year, not a proud alumni and will never ever recommend someone this school
PublicEmphasis2779@reddit
Also did you have all the hours you needed by the time you graduated and did their partnerships with airlines ever work out
AbbreviationsLong358@reddit
They lie to when u sign up, they neglect to tell you that you will have 250-300 hrs when done wit all ur ratings and have to reach the rest by finding a job to gain the other 700hrs, most airline partnerships want you to work wit the school as an instructor and tht school is the worst to work with or even attend.
PublicEmphasis2779@reddit
Is there a school that you would recommend
Ch3rryVixen@reddit
Not recommended such a huge waste of money, staff and teachers are extremely rude, I am not wasting $200k for a stupid teacher who can’t help me on a difficult question and only replies with “bummer”. What is this god damn middle school, they are unprofessional and the higher ups are no different.
I have had nothing but complaints with this school, dorms are awful and cramped and having to share a dorm room since I live far away is stupid, the location is absolutely horrible too, who wants to fly at Bakersfield of all places, that garbage city is a god damn swamp ass city with how hot it is over there
Even-Artichoke6955@reddit (OP)
As an international student trying to apply, they never even referred me to their financial office after multiple emails.... I decided to stick with an atp like flight school in the Middle East.
Wonderful-Estimate23@reddit
Yeah it was hard for me as well to be able to reach their financial services but tmr I got him locked down
ZCEyPFOYr0MWyHDQJZO4@reddit
They charge $180k+ for a BS in aeronautics, their on-time graduation rates are terrible, and the majority of graduates are employed by CAU.
furrowed_eyebrows@reddit
Take engineering or business. Choose something that will make the green you get from being a pilot go further. Getting a degree to become a pilot is a scam.
