It would be 167 hours long and 90% of it would feature the trio sitting in their cars whilst parked on a container ship.
If it's not clear, I think this is a fabulous idea.
Same!
Have watched them since they came on tv where I live. Not because I have any interest in cars really, but between school and going to the stable my time window for television was quite narrow and I just really enjoyed the entertainment, their dynamic and continuously following ‘characters I know’ is just more enjoyable and easier to digest rather than getting in to something new all the time.
It feels so weird that it is ending when I have followed them in this format over half of my life 😅 watch me curled up crying on the floor because I don’t handle any ending like a grown up, and this one is going to hurt🥲
Right there with you. All I've ever known is those 3 fooling around. Back when I wouldn't have otherwise known any better they validated why I would ever love cars
September it is. The finish line is set. I teared up a little and I’m not scared to say it.
It’s also the place to say this now….the big three made this show, but really it should be the big four. Or more fair the big dozens. A show like this doesn’t just come from the three on screen.
This show format came about due to Jeremy and Andy. If it were just one of them it still could have taken off, but it was as good as it was due to both of them working on it together.
And I really don’t think this whole thing has the legs it has with out Andy Wilman. Period.
If I met the man I would just want to buy him one beer and thank him for it. And he would hate that shit. Lol
"This is not just the end of this special.
This is the end of our final special.
And on that terrible disappointment, after 23 years
it's time to end.
Thank you all so much for watching.
And well...
Goodbye.
Goodbye.
I recently discovered that my Samsung TV has a channel that's Top Gear 24/7. Something about just watching whatever the next episode is and knowing I'm going to enjoy it (and maybe haven't watched it in years) is very comforting.
"All good things..." as the saying goes.
I just hope that they do some stuff in the final special to give their franchise a proper send off instead of having it just be "another special" that ends on a terrible disappointment.
Even if they hadn't have left Top Gear, I think we'd be still coming to the end (if not already).
The Grand Tour allowed the boys to end their franchise on their own terms. After 20 years, they've earned their ride off into the sunset.
I think they will and that they realize it.
The Sand Job is already a special among specials by having a 2h runtime when they are usually cut for 1h.
I'm guessing last one gonna get same treatment where they put as much in as they can without worrying about the length of the special.
Living in California I just kept finding the mistakes lol
- back in 2015 the rental cars were not in a multi-storey - they were off the lot from LAX (Jeremy drives out from the expensive terminal parking)
- when he drives off there is no traffic so must be very early morning - but his flight (and I have taken BA269 many times) lands late afternoon
- why does he drive in downtown LA to get out to the desert
- when he is in downtown LA it is clearly morning…
I’ll stop there lol
All of TGT was super heavily produced. Staged top to bottom. I mean all the specials and stuff always were, but TGT took it to another level, and it’s honestly while I could never get into it as much as those middle seasons of top gear.
Now I am trying to remember the episode they went to the Quod Hotel in Oxford (as my mum mentioned she had lunch there yesterday) - they were complaining about driving in Oxford (which is true) but the route they took was - not filmed in the order that it would have been driven. That is - they may have done actual the route once but then the footage was completely reordered.
Reminds me of reality shows (Gordon Ramsay’s US shows for example) where they wear the same clothes everyday so they can chop and change footage. Except in his case the editors aren’t that good as there are clocks and the time always goes back and forth lol
> instead of having it just be "another special" that ends on a terrible disappointment.
I mean, the fact that it's ending is already a terrible disappointment by itself
Personally I think there is an edge and he seems to spend more time on his own during each show. Also he's publicly bashed Clarkson a number of times over the years. But again I'm just some dickhead on Reddit so what do I know, ha
It was sad enough when the original TGT format went away, this is very very sad but all good things come to an end eventually
I wish they’d have like a YouTube/podcast show that is just like The News where they talk about car stuff
The best way this could end is with a speech. Then announcing a new travel show that does not have them drive vehicles anymore. Maybe take over James show changing it to Our Men in... instead. Then also announce they are now executive producers of Top Gear.
As much of a definitive as Wilmans statement is... I kinda like to think of it as definitive as anything else, meaning it is not, as long as Jeremy, James and Richard can think of 'one last adventure'.
Because lets be honest, all of them could have retired with the end of their Top Gear tenure and lived happily ever after, they didn't, and I've heard the only reason TGT might be ending is because they dont have any fresh ideas about what to do next.
Meaning. somewhere down the line, someone may find a reason to get the band back together.
I honestly feel like Sand Job was also bitter sweet, especially with their choice of songs. I normally don't cry when watching the guys go about their normal adventures but Sand Job I felt it. Its coming and we all know it.
No tv shows, movies or any entertainment has impacted me like these guys have and I’m not really not ready for the end as cringe as it is I don’t want to watch it when it comes out because then it’s all over
Hope it’s a banger. Though I get it, they are not young men and these things are tough to do.
I’m happy for what we got, not that we don’t get much more.
I'm not going to pretend to be a tough guy on this one, and I know I'm repeating myself, but this is going to be like losing a dear friend. I've already told my boss that I won't be coming in the next day.
