The first time a bird pooped on my head I was 21 and helping a friend sell stuff at a flea market. He was downsizing and this is a cool flea market with lots of visitors where you are guaranteed to shift a lot of stuff on the day.

I was shocked 😳 when the bird poop dropped on my head smearing my curly hair, and my friend laughed his head off and told me it is considered a lucky omen and I should look forward to good things coming into my life.

It didn’t feel particularly lucky to me in the moment, it was a hot, summer day, we weren’t near any water sources and it was hard cleaning the poop from my hair. I was feeling sad and deflated at the time, so this felt more like the icing on the self-pity cake party I was having.

However, after this event, my boyfriend who lived abroad surprised me with a visit and stayed for 9 months. We got jobs, shared a flat and had a wonderful time together.

After this period, he proposed, after, we settled in a different country and within a few years I got a great job abroad and we had our first daughter.

Before all of this happened, I was feeling miserable, we were in a long distance relationship I felt should end, as before smart devices and video calls it was even harder to make it work with just snail mail, occasional (very expensive) phone calls and some brief visits.

Now, fast forward 30 years, yesterday I went for a solo Sunday walk. Had my best white linens on to cope with the warm weather, and as I’m looking for a spot to lie down and enjoy the stunning weather while reading a book, guess what happened? Yes, really, a bird pooped all over my white linen trousers as I’m strolling along…

This time, I laughed while some passersby looked at me in shock, ‘what kind of lunatic laughs heartily when a bird shits generously all over their white linen trousers?’ Now, I’m wondering what amazing changes are coming into my life…
