one engine brakes but the other pushes forward at Copenhagen's airport. during a Go around

This is why most, if not all, operators say not to commence a go around after TR deployment. Stow cycles aren't considered reliable enough.

Yup, at my airline the pilot monitoring announces “Reverse, two green” during the landing roll out when TR is selected and then fully deployed. Once the word “Reverse” come out of their mouths a go around is no longer an option.

What do they say (or not say) if a reverser has failed? Even if a reverser has failed are you committed to the landing attempt anyway?

Hi from Portugal. This is clearly a TAP airplane. This company was saved by all the tax payers at a cost of 3.2 billion euros. TAP and the socialist government that spent all that money doesn't want any negative publicity of course. It might be a reason or not.

_FlakBait_@reddit

Neither do I. I have absolutely no clue why this airplane is blurred in this video...

Majortom_67@reddit

Is it blurred or is it just the mess of tiny water drops all around?
View on Reddit #21301683

_FlakBait_@reddit

It's blurred. It is clearly following the airplane and it's done in 2 separate camera shots.
View on Reddit #21301728

FoxWithTophat@reddit

I think it is to hide the airlines name, so that TAP, I mean unknown airline, doesn't get negative publicity. Look at the very blue clearly a KLM, I mean unknown second airline, plane which also has its brand naming blurred

_FlakBait_@reddit

Yes, that's the only logical explanation. But it does not work, as clearly everyone in this sub has already identified both companies ;). Also I really liked how you wrote your message :)

I mean, that's what they do in television when showing vehicles. They remove all the badging from a vehicle they don't have rights to use. It could be any brand and any type of car, there's no badge to say it's a Ford F-150 even though it looks exactly like one.

[This article](https://safetyfirst.airbus.com/thrust-reverser-selection-is-a-decision-to-stop/) explains what happened here. Very thorough and imo interesting.

Thanks for sharing that link. Mildly infuriating to read. Shitty programming. Basically the ECU performed a single state check at the time of TOGA selection. Instead of monitoring the state of the both aircraft landing gear it is just a single check at a single point in time and for just one side of the landing gear. The "flight"/"ground" determination should use both wheels unless a LGCIU reports a fault or is inoperative. Also, the system should not permit asymmetric retraction.

Evening-Rip5399@reddit (OP)

Aborted landing to runway 30 in Copenhagen (EKCH) During the landing sequence, the flight crew decided to abort the landing, and the pilot flying initiated a goaround. Upon applying Take-off/Go-around thrust (TOGA), the aircraft at low altitude started veering to the left and did neither climb nor accelerate as expected by the flight crew, which temporarily made it difficult for the flight crew to maintain control of the aircraft. The flight crew noticed an indication for engine no. 1 thrust reverser door(s) to be unlocked. Engine no. 1 was at idle thrust. The flight crew regained control of the aircraft and established a single engine climb toward a safe altitude. During the climb, the flight crew declared an emergency (“Mayday”) and performed relevant checklists. Air Traffic Control issued radar vectors for a priority landing on runway 22L. Without any further occurrences, the aircraft landed on runway 22L. The serious incident occurred in daylight and under Visual Meteorological conditions (VMC). There were no injuries to the 109 persons onboard.

It’s honestly impressive that the crew was able to regain control of the aircraft and land safely. Differential thrust reverser deployment in flight is one of the worst situations you could get into and can be very difficult to recover from. This reminds me somewhat of Lauda Air flight 004.

Lauda Air 004 still sends shivers down my spine. Climbout at/near MTOW, and then a T/R activates. 😬

An engine failure with a rev problem on same during a low height TOGA goaround will require all your skills to get through.
View on Reddit #21301262

LearningDumbThings@reddit

According to Airbus, the crew initiated the go-around after the TRs had deployed. The whole incident was absolutely crew induced.
View on Reddit #21316876

DutchMitchell@reddit

Which is why I don’t mind pilots being overskilled, overtrained and overpaid. And why I also think there should always be two of them in the cockpit in the foreseeable future.
View on Reddit #21304366

pjlaniboys@reddit

Having two at the controls who have been countless times in the simulator getting ready for this is security for all. The surprise of the thrust loss roll as the other engine goes towards goaround thrust will require spit second rudder input and one of the two did it.
