What do mid-30s texts between male friends involve?

I'm 20 at uni and don't know either. Mainly communicate on Snapchat and when I don't know how to reply to someone just leave them on delivered (unopened). Could be for weeks. Then I'll text them next time I need something. Like you said, completely transactional. The only ongoing conversations I seem to be able to have are red snaps (which involves sending pictures back and forth for anyone that's never used snapchat) and that's because sending a picture allows you to avoid conversation. The only thing worse than small talk is 24/7 year round small talk with all of your friends through text. I'm like you, definitely a face to face kind of person, and it isn't a big deal now because I see my mates all the time at uni. But I do wonder how I'm going to maintain those relationships afterwards since I can never be bothered to maintain a conversation over text. It's like my mates from school. We'll meet a couple times in the holiday but I never text them whilst I'm at uni. Does make me wonder if I'll just keep making new friends at each stage in life and slowly drifting from the previous ones. Really curious to know how people actually do maintain a continuous conversation with your mates over text and actually he interested in the conversation. It just feels so much more detached than talking to someone face to face but sometimes face to face conversations just aren't possible if you live far apart.
