I got this on ebay. They're out there. Currently looking for the model I had in 1988. Think I found it.

Mine was light pink and recording myself on tape was MAGIC. I still have several cassettes that I want to get digitized.

Got mine from KMART. Best birthday gift I ever got. From my late grandma 🥺

Naw I had an entirely different device. It was black with red buttons.

That looks like the one Soundwave turned into.

Mine was missing the cover to hold the cassette in. So had to put it on its side to play tapes. I had a white one.

The one I had before this one was like that. There's actually a picture of me with it in the background from '87. I can't identify what brand it was though.

Holy crap. Thank you. I remember Backlighting being so fascinating to me as a kid. Wow that blue lettering! How did they figure that out?

Yes, this exact one! And then my friends and I would pop in a NKOTB cassette and practice our dance routines that we choreographed ourselves to "Hanging Tough" and "Cover Girl." And then we would perform our terrible dances for our classmates on the playground at recess.

I had this one too. I got it at a yard sale for 25 cents. Lol. It came with a broken antenna (I repaired.) And the Barbie dance-r-cise arobics tape in it that I promptly took out and replaced with my Paula Abdul's Forever Your Girl tape.

🙋🏻‍♀️Same probably would still have mine but my Dad took it over when I moved out & brought it to work which was an auto body paint shop. It lasted for a long time but ended beat up & paint splattered. It was a Christmas gift. I also had the alarm clock in purple.

This was our kitchen radio, mom always had it on while she was doing dishes or cooking. After dinner we would all linger in the kitchen listening to the radio.
View on Reddit #21027757

Echterspieler@reddit (OP)

I took mine on a lot of outdoor adventures, and I listened to it on the swing set. I used to set it on the slide and then swing, and the vibrations from me swinging would knock it off the slide into the ground. That's why they didn't last lol
View on Reddit #21028836

Foxy_locksy1704@reddit

I love hearing other people’s memories about the very generation specific things we did and things we had. It HAD to be one of the metal ass burning slides that we all survived that yours slid down lol.
View on Reddit #21029931

Echterspieler@reddit (OP)

Yup it was and the swingset wirh the weak ass anchoring system so the legs were always coming up and slamming down

I had a few. The one that got the most use tho was an Aiwa that had a cd player on top and tape player in front and was kinda shaped like a slightly flattened rugby ball.
View on Reddit #21023995

Echterspieler@reddit (OP)

I didn't get a cd player till 1998
View on Reddit #21025947

I got my Aiwa book box one in 93 or 94 with the nirvana in utero and Pearl Jam vs cds for Christmas. Man those got so much use.

I had to a Sony radio that kinda looked like that, in light blue. Used it while showering.

Great sub thanks for making it - the retirement question was of a different vibe and not as fun, more upsetting. I’m out but I love you
View on Reddit #21027388

You’ve got to have dual cassette decks so you can make the mix tapes brah
View on Reddit #21027008

I didn't have that specific one, but my first stereo system was from that company, Soundesign.

Always wanted one but as my dad managed a stereo store, we always had pretty hardcore equipment. I had one of those giant boomboxes that took up the whole top of my dresser before I was out of elementary school.

View on Reddit #21021370

Gotta have the dual tape deck to copy tapes...and the big speakers so you could carry it sideways on your shoulder and jam out.
View on Reddit #21015799

surfingbiscuits@reddit

We had the dual tape deck *and* a builtin mic. When Beatles Anthology Vol. 1 dropped, we recorded my brother singing *Eleanor Rigby* over the strings-only track. He was and is a very monotone singer, so it was absolutely hilarious.
