Umm, you left out a few. Financial collapse, energy shortage, explosive methane leaks, heat stress, food shortages, radon gas release, super bugs on crops and people...
Need a smaller font.
That will trigger the collapse of our ozone layer when all the free chlorine gets up there, per McPherson. Everyone will be sun burnt if they survive the radiation or particulate radionuclides that will go *everywhere*.
Wouldn’t the methane leaks, heat stress, food shortages and super bugs be enveloped in climate change? It’s not a bear in a tree, it’s 50 murderous goblins working together to move a bear suit.
Those of us that arrived in the last 70 years or so were doomed long ago by our ancestors. Yes of course many of us have made it way worse since but collapse and ruin was always inevitable.
who's to say had we been in our ancestors shoes we'd have acted any different? maybe it's just human nature, man is short-sighted, greedy, and not very smart, not very rational. chaotic. it's unavoidable. doomed by design. that's why humanity, is the cause
Arguably, some people did though. Weren't a lot of people starting communes and homesteads, opting out back in the day? It's just that there Weren't enough people who went that route.
Interesting evolutionary feature to have a small percentage be somehow different. To bad the percentage of humans caring for the earth was never big enough.
Arguably it would be the same thing, although it is theoretically possible that a civilization full of science that said “hey increased burning of fossil fuels is gonna lead to realbadstuff and also population growth in humans REALLY needs to not grow exponentially” could have been wiser. Regardless, the damage is way past done already. It’s either miraculous intervention or it’s collapse.
my point is that I just don't think a civilization "full of science" that takes a course of action based on rational conclusions from the data to prevent harm on the long term and sacrifice things on the short term could ever exist, due to the human nature that I'm talking about..
Idk I don’t think that’s universally true of all humans. There are men and women who plant acorns to make trees in whose shade they will never sit, but if we just have the one planet and the greedy and short sighted and vile and holders of power are always winning, destruction will always be the outcome. All it takes is some middle eastern oil baron’s nonsense vanity project to wipe out any positive change from a state’s climate policy improving.
I think the good are rare, and the bad are most of the time the more powerful - so the change is in their hands, and they choose bad. I am not the most eloquent so it's hard for me to translate my message. but this is getting too Philosophy 201, so basically there is no answer [:
It’s been too late for us for a long time. Probably much earlier than the lifetime of most of us. Now that most of the people who decided on the basics of the world we live in are dead and gone, the rest of us have little power to change what has already been wrought.
I'm sure violent future super storms , hail and sandstorms are totally not a problem for that particular design.
It totally does not function as a giant sail or anything....
guarantee you that they can handle sea level rise in the red sea/gulf of acaba no problem...
also guarantee you that the floating industrial city being built to support the line will also be fine

I’m not sure what my DIY skills have to do with some oil barons building a magical money pit in the desert, but I gather you are fond of it. You have your reasons, I’m sure…but to say that I’m sceptical would be a galactic understatement.
Not fond of it honestly
But I do believe they are building interesting things that I not people at my income level will never live to see
The descendants of oil barons will populate the earth
Just wait in a bunker until the climate improves bro.

Considering changes in mental health from short periods of Covid lockdown, I can see most of these bunkers becoming Fallout-esque scenarios, where the 1% descend into cabin fever and private security take over.
Yes I was immediately hit by it.
I try to post every casual Friday and there is a flicker user that has like 1,000s of horrific art pieces that I typically look into until I find something I like. This guys got everything from classic paintings to horror movie box art to pulp comic covers.
Cool! I don’t know if this is true or not, but I heard somewhere that when Inuit got too old to chew up food for babies, they left their family and went out on the ice and laid down for a polar bear to come eat them. True rumor.
But what about the grinding apathy of atomised consumer bots who can nolonger consume and are dropping out as society fractures and whimpers? Which one is that?
There are ten catastrophic threats to humanity. They, and their solutions, are described in ‘How to Fix a Broken Planet’ (Cambridge 2023). However, most humans do not want to fix them. But we all need to keep our wits about us, so we don’t add another category which is called depression or anxiety. We just have to be cognizant of all the collapsing that’s going on around us, but we also have to just live our lives as happily as we can, with our families.

Collapse related as many, many tipping points are extremely close to going over within a decade or so, if not already in some narrow vectors. An unsettling picture from a old children's book, depicting the helpless little boy and his almost certain death at the hands of several massive beasts. Tried to convey each figure as a player in our current space. The birds could be media IMO.

Agreed. I really didn't parse through true avenues to destruction, just hit upon the major talked about points, going fast and lazy here on a casual Friday.
