Goranis are a mix of assimilated albanians, bulgarians and a little bit of serbian and greek in that order

Never heard of them

LugatLugati@reddit

Why so many Gorani posts lately 😭. 99.9% of Balkaners have never interacted with one. I have tho, a Gorani guy had a little Kiosk shop where he would make sandwiches right outside of Abdyl Frashëri elementary school in Prizren. They were banging for €0.25. I didn’t know he was Gorani until my dad spoke Serbo-Croatian with him and then told me. He had an accent and his Albanian wasn’t very good so I never thought he was Albanian but didn’t think much of it.

They might be trying for an ethnic awareness

nebojssha@reddit

Bro, I live in Novi Sad and know at least 2 families, do not make assumptions based just on your experience.
View on Reddit #20894434

LugatLugati@reddit

What assumptions am I making 🤣? That the vast majority of people will never ever interact with a Gorani in their life? That’s a fact, you being an exception doesn’t change the norm. It’s not that hard a concept to grasp. For example I have yet to even meet a Bulgarian or Montenegrin.
View on Reddit #20894956

nebojssha@reddit

> I have yet to even meet a Bulgarian or Montenegrin. You are not helping your argument with this statement.
View on Reddit #20895509

LugatLugati@reddit

Not really an argument to be had. It’s not a matter of subjective opinion.
View on Reddit #20895569

KibotronPrime@reddit

🤣🤣🤣 now we understand the root of the problem

Only ones I've ever met were the ones who ran a sweet shop in Peja called "Jadran." I couldn't even tell they were Gorani until my cousin told me. The place is now closed, shame because they made great boze and baklave.
View on Reddit #20910061

nvlladisllav@reddit

lmao there's a sweet shop here in Belgrade called "Jadran" which is also run by Goranci to my knowledge. awesome boza as well
View on Reddit #20952712

mafriz@reddit

I guess they really have a thing for the Adriatic lol. The shop was so iconic that when it closed it made national news. https://www.koha.net/en/express-ktv/382303/closure-of-the-adriatic-embeltore-symbol/

Yeah, but quite late, they still know their Ortodox surnames and slava.

Patron and protector saint that Serbian Ortodox Christians have. Every family has one, like Saint Nicholas, or Saint John, but there are a lot of smaller ones, like Saint Mrata.

trillegi@reddit

No opinion on them, but are these the same people that Bulgaria is urging Kosovo to recognize as Bulgarian minority?
View on Reddit #20893264

Besrax@reddit

From my quick research, it seems that a small minority of Gorani identify as Bulgarians, and this is a request to acknowledge them as a minority, and not to claim all Gorani people as Bulgarian.
View on Reddit #20945908

GoatedCoffee@reddit

Probably. I would say Gorani are the closest to Torbesi before anything else, and Bulgaria is under the opinion that all North Macedonians are Bulgarians, therefore they indirectly claim Gorani as Bulgarian too.

Generally well integrated in Kosovo. I had a Gorani coleague once, he was a very nice guy, and also met a Gorani guy. Other than that, too small of a population to have a strong opinion on them

Ethnically they are like the torbesh people which are part of the Macedonian(Bulgarian) ethnicity but for some reason serbia convinced them that they are serbs.

I’ve went hiking in that area. Walked right in the middle of their villages and no one came out lol. They seem peaceful, like the Amish in US. If they’re considered Bulgarians that’s a new fact to me. Better that then Serbs lol, they’ll want an association even in Albania if thats the case🤣
