Nope. Once you’re past TSA they’d need probable cause or a warrant. You’ve already proven yourself clean to get into the sterile area.

Was a police officer for 22 years before being an airline pilot. I’d never sacrifice a 6 figure salary to take money from a suspect. Airport security has nearly %100 percent camera coverage and body cams as well. As easy as it is to hate the police, 99% of them are decent people doing their jobs..they’re not criminals with badges stealing from people…and the ones that are are easily caught and removed.

Another poster attached links. They’re doing civil forfeitures of the money, which is legal. The money goes back to the departments and IIRC one of the officers who didn’t work anywhere near ATL, was provided compensation on the back end

I read the link about cash seizures..it didn’t say anywhere that the officer was personally compensated. The departments DO keep a portion of that seized money once it’s determined it is not being returned to the individual ( I think that seizure rules are way too broad and allow bad things to happen) but cops aren’t taking a cut of the cash and taking it home.

Fair enough then. Regardless it’s shady as hell and just articulating that it ‘looks’ like drug related activity is stupid. You can articulate anything to look drug related. I remember there was a dude traveling to California to see his daughter in college and cops yanked $89k from his possession on a traffic stop. Like damn.

I don’t disagree at all. I’ve done a seizure of cash , but the guy also had a bunch of drugs on him. I’ve never taken anything from someone that wasn’t CLEARLY involved in a criminal transaction.

I’m in support of that. But seizing money and there being no other crime? Especially in these instances where people are just being ‘randomly stopped’ aka profiled while boarding a plane and committing no crime, is outrageous.

Fun. So it's a voluntary search that the people consent to. But they don't have to consent to it. But then what happens? In the video they said they would detain the bags. So you tell them you don't consent but then they take your bags anyways?

If you try to get out in the middle of the inspection, you're probably in too deep as they'll just claim probable cause and keep your stuff. What you should do is ask if you're being detained/if you're free to go. That's the first question you ask. If the answer is no, you're not being detained/yes, you're free to go, then you wish them a good day and walk away so there's no opportunity for them to go fishing.

They can match furniture, room features/arrangement, carpet, artwork, whatever they can possibly see in the image (I know their purpose is nobel, but I can't imagine having to actually look at those photos, hopefully its AI at this point) to your "stock" hotel room photo. Oh hey on the Hilton by DFW had that artwork, guess we should start looking there...

They can match certain features of the room, especially art that may be unique to a certain room... Or maybe damage. Anything identifying that might show up in an online advertisement for "services" or "whatever". If they can align the known room/image to the posting, they know where to go. All AI stuff. It's a good idea in theory, but... You might also get willing participants caught up in something. I have zero viewpoint either way on what people do in their own life for whatever reasons they have. Just a disclaimer. But if it's people doing things against their will... Fry the bastards responsible.

I think they use it primarily for child pornography. They will have picture of children being abused in hotel rooms. I suspect they are not doing it for general prostitution rings.

They probably take pictures of the people to "market" them for sale or whatever, and police can use database of hotel images to narrow down where it was taken. Just a guess
