Are safe hammers legit?

I keep getting advertisement of the SafeHammer glass breaking tool. The one you hold against your car window and press a button and it shatters the glass. Does anyone have any experience with those? Is there a legit website that sells "the real deal"? I get a lot of cheap results on Temu and similar pages when googling it. And I'm afraid to get a low quality copy thats made in china and wont work in a real situation. The website that is called safehammer . com sells it for a much higher price, indicating that it might be legit, but at the same time there are a lot of things about that website that makes me skeptical. LAST DAY TO GET 50% OFF! everyday, little to no info in the about us section, questionable reviews and stuff like that. I also see no mention on the site of the firefighter that was featured in the ads who supposedly invented it.
It seems like a smart product to have in your car, but im skeptical

Just pull your headrest out of the seat and use the metal ends.
Personal-Match1487@reddit
Doesn't work, been proved.
Time_Most_4982@reddit
Beware of Temu. I've read several articles about horrible customer service and know several people who've been very unhappy with their lack of response and assistance with returns, etc.
DeFiClark@reddit
$10 ball peen hammer will do the same with better leverage and be much more useful if you ever need to bang some metal out of the way to keep rolling after a minor collision. Just make sure to secure it under the seat with a bungee or similar so it doesn’t become a projectile in a rollover.
BrowncoatKal@reddit
Im thinking once the car hits the water and is sinking, having the ability to get under the seat and free the hammer from the bungee quickly would be problematic. And swinging the hammer at the window under water would also be quite problematic. You can't get the full swing speed you'd need to break the window.
DeFiClark@reddit
Typically there is air in the car in the initial moments after it goes into the water. I’ve never tested access upside down but right side up access to the hammer is easy. If you are trying to get out and the car is already full of water your likelihood of survival is very low
OlderNerd@reddit
That's true, but the other devices are meant to be used if you don't have room to swing the hammer.
EnergyLantern@reddit
Are hammers any different?
AndrewBert109@reddit
I'm no expert I just stumbled on this thread doing my research for glass breaking tools and this might just be marketing but apparently a hammer-hammer isn't necessarily ideal for this situation. From what I gather it will definitely bust a window if you're outside the car on land, but if you are inside the car it can be harder to get a good angle/swing, and if it's underwater it is going to be a lot harder still from the external pressure. That's why most of these window break tools are just like a little punch concentrated into that little area, it's supposed to be just as effective fully submerged as totally dry. I kind of think there's something to it beyond just marketing cause in almost every discussion I've read from users/reviewers I've seen people talking about trying and failing to use hammers or other types of blunt objects sold as window breaks. The consensus seems to be that these types of tools are the best bet on breaking a window, but that something like the "Safe Hammer" is potentially just a drop shipped overpriced version of a $5 unit available in other places.
ramagam@reddit
Look at it this way:
Imagine if your car ever did go underwater, and you are sitting there thinking, "Man, I really wish I had ordered that window breaker thing..."
DryComparison7871@reddit
For real 😂
DwarvenRedshirt@reddit
Those types of glass breakers are legit, but that one is a total rip off on their site. The original one was called resqme and sells for $9. I wouldn't be spending $30+ on it.
jobjo1@reddit (OP)
yeah I see the resqme ones go for $10 on their website. For me who live in europe its $30 with shipping. I see they have what look like exact copies of the resqme on Temu for $1,60 lol. They cant possibly be legit?
IdealDesperate2732@reddit
No, that's about what it should cost. It's just not an expensive item. If it costs as much as $10 it should include a seat belt cutter too.
DwarvenRedshirt@reddit
I think the op was saying the Temu price was $1.60.
jobjo1@reddit (OP)
Yes Temu price is $1.60. I believe they both include belt cutters. I just cant believe how it is possible to sell anything at all for a dollar and a half and not lose money on it
IdealDesperate2732@reddit
It's a really, really small and simple device. The brand adds nothing here. It's one spring and one cent worth of material which is slightly harder than glass. You could make your own for free by shattering the ceramic part of a spark plug on concrete and saving the pieces.
jobjo1@reddit (OP)
I see some of these have a tungsten spike. The Safehammer one supposedly has that. Id assume that material is more expensive than regular steel.
IdealDesperate2732@reddit
Nah, it just needs to be a certain hardness and tungsten is pretty hard.
jobjo1@reddit (OP)
My point was products made with special materials that are extra hard like tungsten costs more than a dollar and a half..
IdealDesperate2732@reddit
Nah, you have an example right here of one. It's a very small amount and while it's "special" it's not particularly expensive. It's worth like $3/lb and they're using a fraction of an ounce.
DwarvenRedshirt@reddit
It's usually Chinafactured. When you can make counterfeit items for pennies in China, it's certainly possible. Unfortunately, quality is questionable. For non-life critical things it might not matter though.
IdealDesperate2732@reddit
I understand that. Temu's price is correct. That's what I said.
DwarvenRedshirt@reddit
For that cheap, probably counterfeit. But doesn't necessarily mean they won't work for what you need.
gadget850@reddit
The Emson Car Cane is $11.49. It has the window breaker and seatbelt cutter that I may never use and the car handle assist that I do use occasionally.

jobjo1@reddit (OP)
what is the car handle assist for?
gadget850@reddit
It fits into the loop for the door lock in the frame. It gives you a handle to assist you in and out of the car if you have issues. I bought one for the MIL who really needed it and I got one for myself for those days my leg gives me trouble. There is a photo of it being used.
LastEntertainment684@reddit
Keep in mind more and more cars are coming with laminated side window glass, so you can’t just break a window and expect it to shatter away. You might have to push/saw through it.
You may want to check on your vehicle. For example, in my F150 the windshield, driver, and front passenger windows are laminated, but the sunroof and rear windows are not.
jobjo1@reddit (OP)
that is true!
Fickle-Bullfrog9005@reddit
In general they work and are a good idea to have one on hand (before) you need it. lol. Pay a few more bucks for quality if you do get one. Keep in mind that when a window is tinted it won’t shatter, it will “Web”. Some advice I’ve been given from a trusted source is to consider getting a clear film on your car windows if you don’t want tint to stay ahead of the criminals who will eventually use these more often
jobjo1@reddit (OP)
These are supposed to work on tinted glass as well, you just have to push it out after it has webbed. Its not hard. I have seen it demonstrated on video.
other4444@reddit
You can get a glass breaker on a lot of knives too. They work, I keep one in my truck. I wouldn't buy this gimmicky hammer thing though.
SisyphusRuns@reddit
I was at an accident recently with a trapped driver. The glass break on the Gerber knife I keep in the car did nothing. It just bounced off. I know Gerber aren't the best knives, which is why I keep it as backup in the car, but it was surprising and disappointing.
other4444@reddit
The Gerber stuff that I own is pretty good quality I think. Makes me wonder about if mine really would break car glass, I don't even know how I'd test it out? I think mine is a SOG, probably about the same quality as a Gerber.
jobjo1@reddit (OP)
Yeah, I think it would be nice to have a spring loaded one. In the odd chance that you end up under water.
other4444@reddit
Yeah, underwater might be the only place that I could see this one being better than one on a knife.
BuckABullet@reddit
There's nothing complicated or expensive about them. I would expect a cheap one to work fine. Spark plug tops work too - that's an old crook's tool. Bust the top off the base and just toss it at the glass, the whole thing shatters out quick.
therealharambe420@reddit
Just go to an auto parts store and get a glass breaker from them.
Glass breakers are pretty ubiquitous and have been around forever.
IdealDesperate2732@reddit
Yes, that's legit but you can buy them in any hardware store near the register for like $1.99.
Full_Disk_1463@reddit
Spring loaded center punch will do the same thing
