Are there any FREE vin checks sites for US and EU cars ?
Posted by bleah2@reddit | Autos | View on Reddit | 10 comments
I've tried using vincheck info but it only works for US cars. Their EU site asks for a fee.
Are there any online tools that can help me check a VIN for free for US and EU ?
Also, why are VIN checks considerably more affordable or free for US cars and always against a fee for EU cars ?
Thanks.

While not a vin check, https://car.info works on the license plate. It can show stuff like if the car has been in an accident or if it was imported.

Seems like only for Sweden and Norway?

When inputting my car's VIN it says "VIN not currently found for-sale"...
Why does it matter if it's for sale or not...

https://vincheckeurope.eu is the great site to check European car VIN codes. Sweden (car.info) and Denmark (nummerplade.net) have their own seperate websites you can use.

Undoubtedly depends on the country, but I know you can check danish cars on a variety of sites completely free of charge. Supposedly they're pretty cheap when you don't have to pay the danish government...
Nummerplade.net is probably the most popular.
motorregister.skat.dk has a section (it's the official motor registry website of the Tax agency) though it's not the most user friendly.
Tjekbil.dk
Altombil.dk
Etc.
Probably just have to search for the right terms to find what you're looking for. Probably helps to do it in the target language too. Unless Denmark is an oddball in this regard.

May be a law thing in the eu, similar to license plate info viewing needing a small payment as well
