Anyone here in the National Guard? Is it really 2 days a month/ 2 weeks of AT?

2LT, Quartermaster here. I definitely don't regret joining but it feels stupid very often. I'm happy to answer any questions you got but keep in mind I'm on the officer side (ROTC at that) so I can't comment on the enlisted experience much, if at all. But to answer your main question, it's MOSTLY yes. Your typical reserve unit will get 48 UTAs(Unit Training Assembly) per year, plus you're ordered to annual training (15 days normally) during the summer (I've mostly seen it done in June or early July). 1 UTA is basically one workday of pay in the Army. The monthly salary that active duty soldiers get? It's equivalent to 30 UTAs every month. You can look up pay tables for active and reserve and do the math yourself. Now, the nice thing is, those 48 UTAs are usually paired up, so you get "paid double" per workday. Drills are usually a MUTA 4 or MUTA 6 (Multiple Unit Training Assemblies). 2 UTAs per day. MUTA 4 is 2 days, MUTA 6 is 3 days (usually starts on a Friday). So you might do a 3-day drill on two months and have no drill during some other month of the year. In theory, your unit can combine these in all sorts of ways. I've heard of some units doing 6-day drills for gunnery right when one month ends and the next begins. I've also been to a MUTA 3, where our 2nd day of drill just ended a few hours early. Only other things of note are that AT and any other circumstance is not paid double. So those 15 days you're on orders in the summer you only get paid equal to 15 UTAs. And the schedule is typically by fiscal year, not calendar year. This means you'll usually get a drill schedule for Oct 1st - September 30th of the next year.
