Maybe because the loudest atheists tend to be on the western nations?
Be a loud atheist in muslim majority country and they will probably end up between ostracized from society or dead.
Be a loud atheist in a western country, they mainly criticize christians.
because criticizing jews will get them called antisemitic and cancelled on twitter.
Criticizing islam will get them called islamophobe on twitter, receiving an abundance of death threats and possibly getting an actual attempt on their life which might be successful because they are more likely to be leaning left if they are an atheist in a western country and most likely to know nothing about defending themself and most likely do not own a gun.
They instinctively went with christianity because they do not bite back. They might bite back 500-1000 years ago, but not now. They are the easiest to ridicule and mock, they just will not fight back. They get 0 consequences by criticizing christians. They are the easiest target for the edgy atheist who probably watched too much rick and morty and think that they already understand everything in this universe and beyond. To understand this better, christians are like the nerdy kid with oversized thick glasses in movie's high school. The easiest to pick on, with negligible consequences.
No idea is too sacred to criticise. The idea that its somehow 'dishonorable' to criticise christianity because it 'doesnt fight back' is complete arbitrary bullshit.
It's just ad hominem. You can make zero arguments on how christian criticism is wrong, so you'll just attack the character of the people who do.
Whether a religion is 'easy' has no bearing on the validity of criticism.
Can't criticise christianity because it's so uwu harmless(its not). Can't criticise Islam cause it'll fucking kill you.
Just save your breath, save your damn time, and say that you don't want free speech. You want the power to quash these puny upstarts upending your precious status quo.
atheists in Muslim countries go to jail
atheists in Jewish country are still Jewish supremacists so Orthodox Jews are chill w it
Buddhists don't give a shit if you're atheist
my right wings views have for the most part came from personal experiences, using logic and being rational. Care to give examples? Of course there are stupid rightists but I'll defend any of my view points if you care to have a discussion.
Trans stuff- fake problem Border - fake problem. Republicans are pro corporate subsidies and anti workers rights. Pro tax cuts for rich people at the expense of the middle class. You’re basically simping for corporations by voting that way. Trumps presidency raised the deficit more than any president in history
I'm anti subsidies, I'm anti taxes (for everyone) - I'm more of a libererian rightists under a lot of issues, the government are theifs, what I think taxes should be spent on - millitary, borders, only important goverment jobs, police - what I don't think taxes should be spent on - handing out free money, paying for hospitals (I don't live in America but I find your system of expensive healthcare good, other than the fact that you get overcharged for bullshit, but I still think it's better paying this way than through taxes)
A lot of republicans are anti sending money to Ukraine, Taiwan, Israel, etc,
Personally I think not sending money to Taiwan is the stupideest thing ya'll could do, issue with Ukraine is corrupt officials so I'm confflicted but I hate Russia so fuck em, and personally I'm against sending money to Israel.
Reasons for where taxes should go in first paragraph - Number one job of a goverment is the keep the country safe - everything else? Every man for himself. The only issue I see with capitalism is that conpound interest works great for people born into rich familys with assets already which perhaps increase the wealth gap - however this why is why the tax system makes no sense - the more you make the more you theoratically have to pay, however often those who earn the most benefit the least from their tax spendings.
About worker rights - the reason a company exists is to make money, and here's the most important thing - nobody is forcing you to work for anyone. Guess what, you could be a small business owner, it is also your job to find the best job for you - whether it's the job where you work little hours with good rights, or a job that pays well with high hours - the market is a competetive and there's no reason for the goverment to limit that. It's not simping, it's being fair.
About the border - Whether there are illegals getting in or not I am not sure, however if they are - HUGE problem, I am very anti illegal migration - different culture, dangerous, no business walking in on American soil (or European for that matter if we're talking about the broader issue of illegal migration).
Trans stuff - trans stuff is so infuriating for me because it's such a bullshit issue which only exists because leftists want to be retarded. I do agree rightsits talk about it way more than they probably should but the fact that it even exists is a big reason why I hate leftists. Why? It's just straight delusion at best, and at worse men getting into female lockerrooms and competing in female sports - oh and I almost forgot - mutalizing children
as long as posbbile (unless maybe you're over 1 year) - reasoning:
Many people have made posts about the timeline of benefits, if you're interested in specifics, however I will say that at 2 and a half - 3 months your semen starts to re absorb into your body, I recommend you search the post: "Explanation for why 90 days is bare minimum" on the subreddit for a tiny bit more in depth reasoning.
if you're really addicted to pornography go for minimum 1 week at the start, and slowly start increasing if that works for you. However try your very very best to retain without pornography. Why? Pornography drains you more than any other form of releasing (sex or masterbation without porn), it's probably too long for me to go into the science of it however if you want to read more about that I recommend the post: "How porn awakens the coward in you" on the subbredit.
I recommend anyone whether on semen retention or not to abstain from casual hookups, however if you're in a long term relationship and want to try retention I really recommend karezza. read the book "cupid's poison arrow", or just a summary of it on youtube will do good as well to get the idea. It's slow sex foccused on bonding without releasing. There's also a subreddit for it as well.
My strategies to overcomming porn addiciton:
- Think about how much of my life it has ruined
- realise the best time to quit was 3 years ago, the second best time is now
- look at the insane benefits it have given me to retain
- any time I want to open porn physically force my self
and this is a big one:
Leave my phone far away from me in the afternoon - Your self control is the weakest at nightt when you're tired.
Of course everything depends on your personal situation but that's just a fairly quick rundown of what works for me, and my personal situation. I recommend you try your best to retain as long as possible, there aren't any downsides for retaining long, you may experience a flatline as some people call it at some point (a couple months in) however it is not grounds for releasing in my opinion.
If you're still dubious whether this is all legit, I can seriously go far more in depth asbout the science behind it and why it isn't bro science bullshit. Hope this comment helps and if you want anything more my dms are always opened.
#
>it's probably too long for me to go into the science of it
No please, I’d love to heard the science behind it. Do you have any good studies to reference?
I assume you want the science of why pornography is bad since that's what I was referencing in that setence. If you want the science about what happens when you release semen, and then what happens when you retain semen I can write about that as well
I'll be honest with you - I don't have studies to reference because I go off of personal experience and the personal experience of others on (mostly) Reddit. However that doesn't change that it is science because science is based on facts and you don't need a college degree to form observations, so it is from my personal research if so you will
Anyways, if you're still interested why I believe porn specifically is bad (facts instead of the spiritual schizo stuff)
When you release semen your body thinks that you have found a woman to mate with, which satisfys it, lowering your motivation to pursue women at the moment.
The damage that pornography does is that instead of Masterbation without porn or making love to one women, with porn you often jerk off to multiple women, and not only that they are attractive women. Making your brain think you are a literal king since those are the only type of people who got that many women pre internet
Because of this you're less motivated, more lazy, lower testosterone, etc, if you really do need specific studies I'm sure I can gather enough reputable studies and send in your sms.
It fries your dopamine system more than social media and video games: https://www.google.com/amp/s/neurosciencenews.com/neuroscience-pornography-brain-15354/amp/
The more you watch porn, often the less stimulating vanilla porn will be and you'll deviate to fetishes which isn't good, you'll get bored of shit easily. Vanilla sex with one woman won't be fulfilling.
Some quick "bro science":
Because of the reasons mentioned above it dims your sexual energy more than anything else. Sexual energy may not be able to be proven but from personal experience it is a thing.
I don't question the legitimacy. I think its a good practice for mind over body at the very least.
I did try no masturbation a couple of years ago and after two weeks or a month I had pain in my balls and could barely walk or sit.
The ballsack was also very firm.
let's see... 12 year old reddit account and checking profiles of others with the purpose of exposing them
i don't think you are in the position to judge
Just had a look at that subreddit, I’m on a bus but had a deep hearty chuckle
Reading their wiki, and especially their rules and how they want to be different from nofap, and instaban at any comparisons. It’s like seeing a glimpse into a hilarious little internet subculture microwar
Reading the words “semen retention” so many times carried on making me laugh as it’s such a hilarious concept, those 2 words together. They’re trying to pass off as a super secret ancient practice, with no trace of irony
Thanks man, that gave me a good laugh

for sure.. just was pointing out there are secular buddhists that aren't all just dumb stoners.. there is also people that take it serious and find it overall to be a worthwhile practice.
Buddhists are not atheistic. Most don’t believe in monotheists-tic beliefs tho. It’s a non–Abrahamic religion, it doesn’t follow the popular monotheistic belief most people have nowadays
Many (if not most) Buddhists are absolutely atheist. My husband is Buddhists and he's atheist. Buddhists are absolutely not required to believe the claim "god exists"
Buddhists DO give a shit. You just don't live in a nation where they are the majority. Some are as crazy as some Christians in the West, there are money scheme cults covered up by them being Pagodas,... You get the point
Buddhists kind of cared about you being atheist in the past. It's just that different political stuff made Buddhist countries be the ones that became the most atheist and so they kind of had to adapt to being more vague about stuff.
Yikes sweaty! Is that a factual statement that challenges my belief system? On the internet? CHUD Alert!!! Gonna have to contact the admins about this!
"y'all" posters deserve to live in a muslim majority country.
Interesting theory I read: Every society has a portion of people who have a personality type which leads them to become fanatics. These people used to be very useful to organized religion as they would be willing to do a ton of work for what they believed in. However in the modern age religion has far less of a hold on general society and these fanatics need to find something new to cling to. Most gravitate towards politics but some take in the ideology of atheism and make it a point to hound the religious (usually christians as mention by OP) even though ironically they would have likely been devout followers in a different age.
There's no "specific claim that all atheists believe" since like religion they all have their own theories (denominations), but almost all can point to the big bang theory.

>AHHH I DONT GET WHAT YOU MEAN R SLASH EXPLAINTOMELIKEIN5THGRADE AHHH WHAT DO YOU MEAN ATHEISTS BELIEVE IN SCIENCE I DONT GET IT
REDDITOR! How about you read what I say you dimwit
Ur speaking in circles regard, i'd have a more interesting conversation with a brick wall at this point.
Atheism = believe in no God, believe in science, believe in scientists, believe in a certain theory over another
Therefore atheism = belief system
> Atheism = believe in no God
No it doesn't. Atheism means you **don't** believe there **is** a god. It says nothing at all about if you believe there isn't a god.
>believe in science, believe in scientists, believe in a certain theory over another
No, it doesn't mean any of that either. It only means you don't believe the claim "god exists".
>Therefore atheism = belief system
Belief that..... what?
No, myself and many (if not most) other atheists don't believe the claim "there is no god" because we haven't seen anything showing that claim to be true.
So no, we don't all believe the claim "there is no god".
You fail to understand what Atheism means. It means you are CERTAIN there is no God. If you are UNCERTAIN that there is a god, then you're agnostic (one could exist)
> You fail to understand what Atheism means. It means you are CERTAIN there is no God
No, atheist only means you don't believe there is a god.
You're thinking of gnostic. That's the word that means you're certain there is or isn't a god.
>If you are UNCERTAIN that there is a god, then you're agnostic
Correct, you're agnostic rather than gnostic. You're still either theist or atheist. Being agnostic instead of gnostic doesn't change that.
Wrong but right about what?
They're both agnostic (not gnostic) and atheist (not theist) because they're neither theist nor gnostic.
What are you not understanding about it?
They don't believe the claim "there is a god" = atheist
They don't claim to know there is or isn't a god = agnostic
They're both.
I'm not understanding your confusion.
Everyone is gnostic or agnostic. Everyone is also theist or atheist.
The fact that they're agnostic rather than gnostic doesn't magically make them not atheist. They're still atheist rather than theist. They're just not gnostic atheist.
agnostic means not gnostic. Just like how atheist means not theist. That's what the prefix "a" means - "not"
And you're thinking of (G)nostic (noun) not (g)nostic (adj). They're 2 different things.
It's really the ideology of antitheism. Instead of believing in the claim, they oppose and despise it with as much fervor as the people who believe in it.
Some do some don't. Atheist just means they don't believe the claim "god exists" that's it. Many (if not most) atheists **are** agnostic rather than gnostic. Not at who told you all atheists are gnostic but you've unfortunately been misinformed. I'm atheist and I'm agnostic rather than gnostic. The gnostic atheists are the minority.
What's curious is that people like the amazing atheist will criticize Christians all day; they'll hound Muslims, too. But TJ \*never\* commentates on Jewish people, who are overrepresented by thousands of % in western media.
How odd.
Maybe because atheists in America usually comment about the Christian majority in… America? Their shared country? Weird how that works. Almost like they’re in the same area or something.
Is that so? What other majority religion is affecting American atheists, in America? Islam doesn’t hold power slightly comparable to Christianity in the us, or anything else really. You can be surprised by this if you want to remain ignorant, but whatever.
Yeah, I think Islam is the worst religion, Christian’s usually aren’t random terrorists, but they’re the ones affecting my life directly with their fairytales
Cope.
\>Academia

\>Media (Movies, music, and TV)

\>Everywhere in big cities
"But there's not any jews"
Who cares they aren't forcing Judaism on non Jews, but Muslims and Christians do. If Jews were as many they would force it as well but it's not enough of them to notice for normal ppl
>If Jews were as many they would force it as well
other way 'round buddy. There's not a lot of them BECAUSE they don't convert people. And they don't convert people not because they respect people's autonomy and religious freedom, but because they think they are the chosen ones and you can only be born as one of them.
Don’t speak too many facts. You’ll annoy the lazy bums who can’t even google that what you’re saying is true. Highly overrepresented. My question though is still, why?
Scared of the antisemitism label. I dont think its any deeper than that. And Christianity is of course the religion with traditionally the most impact on Europe and North America
None of the things you are implying are pushed there have anything to do with the religion of Judaism though, except maybe money for Israel. Jews doing it =/= judaism. Also most of those people aren't jews, so claiming a disproportionate amount of them are means very little.
If I wanted to make you really hate judaism I would start quoting the talmud. So I will.

Most of these quotes are legitimately pulled from the talmud and you can find them on your own.

I mean if you’re just going off of Jewish space laser tier conspiracies sure but if you want to look at actual historical evidence it’s Christianity by a long shot.
Because Jews don’t try to force their religion on others. As a card carrying atheist, I don’t give a fuck what you believe if you don’t force it on me.
The annoying thing about criticizing Judaism is that the ethnic component. Believing in God and circumcising babies for religious reasons is cringe and blah blah blah. If you're direct with that criticism, it's fine and nobody cares. However, if someone says that they hate jews, people will just think they're doing it out of racism (which is often the case). It's not that deep. Oops jk nevermind it's because Jews are overrepresented in the media so they've influenced culture to keep people from badmouthing their faith.
What, you want me to badmouth Muslims?
Islamists and their ilk are probably the greatest threat to stability in the Middle East. They spread havoc, misery, and chaos throughout that part of the world and spread it as they flee the self-inflicted misery of their corner of the world.
Ordinary Muslims are certainly miles better than the Jihadis, but much like moderate Christians screen the extremists, Muslims offer an even more worrying support to Islamists.
Jews are an ethnicity so it’s hard to badmouth in a vacuum, but their religion and it’s extremely anal prescriptions is one of the reasons why they’ve been so persecuted.
You only think that because you only see ex-christian atheists. Go check out r exmuslim if you have some time and see which atheists are the more reasonable (it's the ex-christians)
I think he would though. He's an honest guy, the likes of which you rarely see. But I doubt he gets his panties in a twist because a jew made a bad movie as opposed to a muslim doing an honor killing.
What would you like him to commentate on?
I think about this all the time. There are so many modern liberals - like the stereotypical liberal that’s very vocal about the causes du jour and hates religion - that just are so easy for me to picture as some really uptight, annoying, overly pious, sour old maid in some little village back in the day, or if they’re a man, some sniveling, two-faced coward that spied on his neighbors and was a complete hypocrite in private. Very easy to imagine them being the first to demand someone should be stoned to death over a rumor that they blasphemed in some small way, and getting into everyone’s business. For some reason, whenever I read comments on Reddit or meet people in real life who are super preachy about modern beliefs, I just immediately think of them 200 years ago, just as preachy and annoying and rigid, except about the exact opposite. A lot of the trendy journalists, social justice types, etc especially give me that feeling.
A fanatic is just a fanatic, and they love to police people based on whatever the current cultural “right” beliefs are. The beliefs themselves don’t matter. It makes them feel like they have some form of control, and helps them hide a feeling of inferiority and punish others for their own unhappiness. They are also usually fairly stupid (except for the ones who are legitimately mentally ill, who are attracted to fanaticism because of their illness - some of them can be intelligent).
Not to be le epic edgy, but I kinda think this about progressives and how they're like reverse religious. Used to be one of the worst things ever to say God in any context, now it's slurs and incorrect pronouns. Instead of calling Nero or Napoleon the antichrist you call Trump the new Hler. Probably a lot of other details too.
I have heard religious scholars speculate American nationalism and sports in general have religious qualities. People refer to non religious buildings like the Capital, symbols like the flag, and many other things as sacred or holy. Baseball players have intense rituals to keep calm during a match which is similar to daily prayer.
I am dumbing it way down but that's the jist.
It was in a Gustav Le Bon book but I cant find the exact one, it was on the evolution of nations and culture. Try "The psychology of peoples", itll probably get similar ideas across.
>**Interesting theory I read: Every society has a portion of people who have a personality type which leads them to become fanatics. Most gravitate towards politics but some take in the ideology of x and make it a point to hound the y (usually z as mentioned by OP) even though ironically they would have likely been just like anyone else in a different age.

Out of all the major religions, Christianity in the past few decades has become the only socially acceptable religion to publicly hate. Funny, if I was the devil this would be a dream come true and a scheme I’ve been plotting for thousands of years.
He thinks this because the majority religion in his country is christian. Plenty of atheists argue about muslims. And who argues about buddhism? Buddhism approaches secularism in its popular form.
I will acknowledge that many atheists get super militant about it, though. Many do feel the need to argue with christians endlessly on how no one should believe in mr sky king and his 12 piece band.
I am living in turkey and atheist in here hates Islam more than any other religion. I think this hatred is kinda local thing. They hate religion that close to them.
He is talking about his own society, up in here in the Middle East you’ve got Atheists never talking about Christianity or Judaism, only bad mouthing Islam, and they edit Western memes but change them from about Christianity to about Islam.
Hey, leave us Buddhists out of it.
Non-Atheists bad mouth as all the time, cause we are the OG Atheist.
Oh, I now noticed that OP is a retardant material.
Depends on if you think the word atheist means without gods or non spiritual/ humanitarian. Buddhists don't believe in gods, specifically a creator god, but they are spiritual and believe in mystic knowledge of higher realms and divine beings.
It's why some Christian sects are sometimes classified as not truly Christian. The main rule that defines a Christian dictated by the Nicene Creed is belief that there is one god in a trinity, and that Jesus died on the cross.
Mormons think the trinity are separate beings, so they sometimes are not counted amoung Christian sects. Muslims believe in Jesus, but not that he is God or that he died on the cross.
If you're an atheist you don't believe in gods or a creator god as I said. Depends on what you call divine beings. Angels and prophets like Moses can be described as divine beings, but they aren't gods. Same goes for figures like the Titans, Fates, Furies, and anything else of divine importance. Divine can mean of a god or like a god, not a whole lot of words can be used to describe Buddha, the Deva, or even the demon Mara collectively.
Even still, there can be a difference between angels and heavenly beings which is part of the reason the "biblically accurate angels," meme is inaccurate.
Part of what makes angels "not gods" is just that there's another being above them that they answer to. If we said angels but not yahweh existed and they weren't answering to anyone else they would probably be seen as gods.
In the end, god is more of a sociological term. A god is whatever is treated as one. And buddhism absolutely treats stuff like one, and had no issue admitting as such. Downplaying that was a political rather than theological move.
Angels answer to Archangels, are Archangels gods or demigods (lit minor gods)? No, and that's why I'm using divine beings as a catch all term to refer to anything of divine importance. Angels aren't worshipped by Abhramic religions, their primary devotion is to their singular god. Part of the reason angels aren't gods is because they aren't referred to as such, and they have other roles as messengers and psychopomps.
Devas aren't gods or anything I'm aware any Buddhist school thinks of, but they also don't worship the Devas outright. They don't consider themselves as worshippers of gods or divine beings, which is why some call them atheistic and why some think it's not a religion. Some think it's a philosophy or something else entirely.
Obviously god as a term isn't purely sociological. It can be a very strict religious term. If you think Jesus isn't a god you aren't Christian (like the Muslim form of Jesus named Isa), and if you think Jesus isn't God you aren't a mainstream / Nicene Christian. Buddhism classically doesn't consider Siddhartha Gautama a god, nor does it place the Buddha role as one.
Though I will say, I'm not well researched into esoteric or early Buddhism so it is possible at one point they had gods or a creator god. Judaism used to have Yahweh purely as the god of Israel, not the God according to some scholars. At some point some Jewish sects believed in a second parallel God called Metatron, and of course some Jewish sects believed in a prophet who was God. As well as certain sects that believed God was the incorrect god and was a lesser creation from an aspect of the true God.
>Obviously god as a term isn't purely sociological. It can be a very strict religious term.
Every religion has its own use of terms. The idea that there's a single concept called god is not really true. Its just an attempt to describe whatever aspect of a religion is closest to a certain archetype. Some religions have multiple seperate races with different terms, or nuances in the approach or so on. Any arbitrary definition for god will end up excluding tons of religions. Hence the issue.
>Buddhism classically doesn't consider Siddhartha Gautama a god, nor does it place the Buddha role as one.
Of course it doesn't. Becayse god is an arbitrary English term, and they weren't speaking English. There's no single definition of god that exists in every culture that they were denying. He was a supernatural being who as worshipped and one of his titles is devatideva, which even translated is god of gods. Him not being a deva doesn't mean anything, because deva isn't 1:1 the English term for god. And even devas had figures like indra who are comparable to zeus. But who aren't paid the same homage only because the Buddha is placed above them.
Hence what the issue comes back to. For any religion the word god is imprecise. This isn't unique to buddhism. But there's no actual reason to say it's so different that the word doesn't apply. That's adding presumptions to the word that arent really there.
Sure, different religions and cultures have different standards on what god means as I already mentioned. There isn't a strict rule on what makes a god a god besides subjective reasons, but you can group the different beings together so there's no semantic debates. It would be counter productive to interject that Shintoism doesn't have gods, only kami.
It's allowed to be a broad term, but being subservient to a higher being isn't a good barrier on the term. If that's the case then the Greco Roman gods aren't gods, they come from the titans who come from the primordial beings. Things can be called gods without being the chief or supreme deity who are all controlled by the Fates.
Again, see the word kami. Commonly used to refer to what the Shinto to believe are what English aligns with gods. Still, god is a loose term. You can refer to the Deva as gods technically, but Buddhists don't revere them as such. Which is why I used the catch all divine being which can refer to anything of divine importance like angels, demigods, etc.
Depends on what we're calling worshipping too and the nature of what the word atheist means. It is a matter of semantics, but you have to consider the subjectivity of the belief present. I don't understand why it's inaccurate for a Christian to refer to their main figure as God or even Arabic Christians or Jews to call their figure Allah. Seems like you disagree with the word god by itself, not just the appropriate and technical use cases. Because people can disagree with what a god exactly is. You see the word used to describe terrestrials, extraterrestrials, incomprehensible omnipresent things, and even seemingly normal people with no power other than maybe immortality. Devas are divinely important and extraterrestrial, but not immortal. Surprised you also haven't taken issue to my use of the word divine.
I don't know any religious terms to describe a spiritual movement that does not hold divine beings as religiously important. I don't think the average person has the vocabulary for anything besides atheist, let alone knowing the difference between misotheism and dystheism. Because even still, you can argue all sorts of things. Technically ghosts are demons because the etymology of demon means spirit, but there's an expectation for what a demon means and is.
Oh you are that guy ,huh!
Let me Umm, Actually.
Buddha himself can be defined as agnostic. He simply disregarded the concept of creator and or superior entities.
Gautama Buddha is both Agnostic and atheist.
Man, Buddha was like if God is there they will do shit for us, now? If not there, what the point? And he never talk about it again.
Buddhism got pegged with spiritualism or some shit is by westerner concepts. We do not have divine beings or higher entities etc those are mostly myths.Things like do good deeds and you will get to Buddhist kind of heaven and those Deva entities etc are fabrications and myths .
As I mentioned Buddha was like nah, who care. Cuz we both know that if we are in Slaneesh realms without the Futanari, we ain't gonna care about some lousy human, they are like flies or ants for us.
Buddha thought all this shit maybe a simulation, don't quote me but yeah, he was like stop the show.
Buddha was not agnostic lol. He said gods are real but that he is above them. He was only agnostic about creator gods. But even then, that is only a tiny part of most religions.
I am hating to have this convo in the r/4chan . Buddhism do not have small gods or even acknowledge if there is a wide supreme god.
As I said, if the big god exist it ain't gonna do shit for me, if he didn't then it was moot. Man, we are all about human.
Did you learn about buddhism from a stoner named atticus? Because these are pretty simple misconceptions that you could easily fix by picking up any type of a history book.
Agnostic doesn't mean you don't believe in a creator god, that's atheism. Agnostic is that you don't claim to know if there is or isn't a god, and that there isn't a way to prove it either way. You can't be both at the same time, you can't claim to know and not know.
Again, depends if you think a lack of spiritualism is important to atheism. Buddha wasn't non spiritual, and he didn't reject transcendental or esoteric knowledge as is typical of an atheist.
Ah yes, Siddartha Gautama, famous nihilist and pessimist known for rejecting the god of Abraham.
Not to tell you how to practice your non mainstream religious views, but in Buddhism there are realms beyond Samsara and beings of divine importance and scorn. Odd to claim to hold the beliefs of a religion but then chalk up core beliefs as just myth and made up. I don't know what Slaneesh is, definitely not a Buddhist term.
Buddha definitely didn't think the world was a simulation, nor did he seek to stop Samsara.
If I were you I would talk to a real monk of a school or sect of your choosing. Look into resolving your tanha if you're going to be sourcing your religious terms and beliefs from who knows what besides the green.
Ah, yoo!
I don't wish to be defensive. I am just ummm, actually. I am a Southeast Asian raised Buddhist, and "mostly" following Buddhism.
In mainstream Buddhism, there are 6 realms of Deva that are full of pleasures or sorta. And 8 realms of hells. And there are also another kind of realms that called Brahma. And of course the others creatures that are in sorta in purgatory and hells at the same time.
Yeah, most of the above are basically (imo don't quote me) perversions or myths adopted from traditional beliefs of others in Indus Valley civ.
To get back to your comment , all of the beings are in Samsara. None are beyond it. Like he talked about the Brahma whom live so long like 100 Earth's times, even more or something (Myth talk warning).
Anyway, my point is that canon Buddhism is going to Nirvana. No wishy washy, you tried it now and or in another now. Nirvana is like nothing, never, cease.
Something like where Angel died in Super Natural , the perfect void, except the void don't exist.
Also, Slaneesh is from 40k God of excess. It's pretty cool.
Buddhism is different depending on region and country, so I don't think it's fair to say there aren't divine beings. It depends on the type of Buddhism.
I was raised pretty religiously, not forced in anyway but taught and urged. I am from Theraveda Buddhism, which prized themselves on maintaining Buddha words as it was said. And we still have shit tons of myths and idiotic mystical snake oils bullcraps.
In essence, there are only two sects of Buddhism schism, Theravada and Mahayana. Schism was (basically) formed out this one sentence said by the Buddha. He said "When I am gone, I allows you Sanga to change the rules for practicing monk hoods as the time dictate." So, there were these conservative side of monks who were like we should never change a words he taught cuz it's slippery slops, and there are liberal monks who were Buddha himself said it, he surely told us for a reason.
It is hilarious that one side whom believe they are maintaining true and every teaching of Buddha except for that one. And another side that following as Buddha said.
Noted that I am not saying any side is the truth. Both side are correct. And they are still carrying the Buddhism to this age and time. I hope they will do so to the end.
So, about the Buddhism and different sects, there is no schism in the essence of how to get out of the Karma to the Nirvana. It is the same 8 folds path. Anyone can achieve it themselves now and always. Even without ever knowing Buddhism, one can achieve it themselves.
Anyway, I will end my bs here.
Tibetan Buddhism has gods and deities, you do not even know your own dogma. Not all Buddhist sects are atheistic heathens, they can be polytheistic heathens as well.
Huh, are talking about English meaning in gods and deities like those in Anime or what?
Frankly, I don't want to talk about it anymore.
Also, I already explained about the schism and myths. But if you wanna know more about the lores it is a trip.
Atheists in the west grew up "under" Christianity, it's natural they would mainly criticize it. As an agnostic, I definitely prefer Christianity to Islam. I imagine someone who grew up in muslim country would mainly be against Islam.
Not sure where you are going with this. But you could just state your point if you want. No one is going to answer a red herring leading question.
The term agnostic was created to delineate being neutral on a position. Belief obviously isn't a binary, since you can place yourself in the middle of a gradient. So it only confuses people who want to be confused. We wouldn't describe any other position in a way where neutral doesn't exist, so there's no reason to here.
> Belief obviously isn't a binary,
Of course it is. You either do have belief that a claim is true or you do not have belief that it is true. What did you think was between having belief and not currently having it?
>since you can place yourself in the middle of a gradient.
There is no middle. You either believe the claim "god exists" or you lack (don't have) belief in it yet.
Do you believe the claim "god exists"? If so, which one do you believe exists?
Okay, it seems you don't get how beliefs work either. The idea of describing belief as concrete is a construct. In actuality people's beliefs are on a gradient.
If I flip a coin and ask you to describe your belief that it is heads you will probably describe it neutrally or as a percentage, not as a binary. And anyone not being deliberately disingenuous will accept that you can neither be said to believe or disbelieve that because those temes refer to strong leanings that in this case you don't actually have.
It makes it more obvious if I change my question from head to tails. Since you can't describe either leaning as affirmation or negation it is a middle ground.
> I flip a coin and ask you to describe your belief that it is heads you will probably describe it neutrally or as a percentage, not as a binary.
I would not believe the claim "it's heads". Until I see someting showing the claim "it's heads" to be true, I have no reason to believe that claim is true.
It is absolutely a binary. You either believe the claim "it's heads" or you do not believe the claim. There's no other option.
>It makes it more obvious if I change my question from head to tails. Since you can't describe either leaning as affirmation or negation it is a middle ground.
I would also not believe the claim "it's tails" until I see someting showing that claim to be true.
It seems like you are close to realizing that you don't have to lean either way, and so can be neutral. You can reword any position as not believing in the opposite one, so it should be obvious that if you don't want an endless cycle of stating you are two contradictory things you can just be neutral.
Maybe it would help if you realized that beliefs are more like strengths. Someone who only has 2% belief in something wouldn't be said to believe in it, since they disbelieve more than believe. But almost everyone has more than 0% belief in stuff. We call something a belief if your belief level gets pretty high. There doesn't need to be a specific number. Whether you want to say 60% or 80%. But either way its obvious that 50 is disbelieving as much as believing.
You don't need to trust me though. Talk to some actual academics and they'll tell you the same thing. The hurr durr atheism debate terms are only a thing on reddit. And even then, most people are too embarassed to try using those now. Was more a thing several years ago.
> you don't have to lean either way, and so can be neutral.
If you're neutral, that would mean you don't believe the claim "god exists".
If you do believe the claim, you're not "neutral".
Yeah, you really aren't getting it. Belief operates in degrees. A neutral person has more than zero. But you wouldn't say someone whose belief in something is 2% "believes" in it.
>Belief operates in degrees
Sure. 0 and more than 0. Everyone either has 0 or they have more than 0.
>. A neutral person has more than zero.
No, a neutral person has zero belief that the claim is true and if they're logical they won't until they see evidence showing it to be true.
>But you wouldn't say someone whose belief in something is 2% "believes" in it
If they have any amount of belief that yes the claim is true (not might be or could be true, but is true) they believe the claim is true. Unlike those that just lack (don't have) that belief that yes the claim is true.
gnostic/ agnostic answers the question "is there a god?"/"is it knowable?" Whereas theist/atheist answers the question "do you believe there is a god?"
Everyone is gnostic or agnostic (not gnostic)
Everyone is also theist or atheist (not theist)
You can be:
gnostic theist - believes a god exists, claims to know a god exists
gnostic atheist - does not believe a god exists, claims to know a god does not exist
agnostic theist - believes a god exists, does not claim to know if a god exists or doesn't exist
agnostic atheist - does not believe a god exists, does not claim to know if a god exists or doesn't exist .
There is no "middle ground" between theist and atheist. You're either theist or you just aren't.
These are made up reddit terms. No one either in popular culture or academic writing uses them that way because even at a basic glance it's disingenuous nonsense. Not even people [like dawkins](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fstxelq9g2cy31.jpg%3Fwidth%3D600%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3Dd2d785fbb2e200e2af57361dd018a37c3dfa205e) are dumb enough to deny you cam be neutral.
Making up terms that make it harder to describe the middle ground isn't going to magically stop it from existing. All it does is telegraph insecurity on the part of the one clinging to them. Because the sole reason those terms exist is to try to conflate strong atheism with neutrality.
I like how you got caught not having a point and so you don't know what to do except use the same red herring question. If you think you are saving face it's not working. You can try to address the points if you think of anything though.
It's a Lefevre valid question. You're agnostic so you acknowledge you don't know if there is or isn't one but is there one you belive exists? If so, which one?
> Making up terms that make it harder to describe the middle ground isn't going to magically stop it from existing.
There isn't a middle ground between believing a claim and not believing it. Belief is a thing. You either have it or you don't.
Also the factor that athiests tend to be left leaning. People on the left tend to dislike holding onto tradition, which is why right wingers are called conservatives a lot.
With left leaning people they also enjoy multiculturalism and broad identity. Regardless if you think they're faux-thentic, that's why they celebrate Muslims as an oppressed ethno religious group (less about their actual religion since they are at odds) and invite in pagans and eastern religious teachings like Hindu yoga.
Right wingers are the opposite liking monoculturalism / nationalism and a tighter identity. That's why they love religion so much and are slow to adopt new ideas. And religions that hold onto their identity tighter last longer, which is why strict religions have more power and lasting impact than more open ones. Probably why Muslims tend to live in very strict and conservative countries, and probably why a person with some questions wouldn't last in Saudi Arabia. Even as an agnostic, if you legally declare that on paperwork you are not allowed in Saudi Arabia.
Atheism and Satanism are distinct concepts. Atheism is simply the lack of belief in any deities. It does not entail the worship of any entities, be they gods, demons, or otherwise. It's a non-belief system, not aligned with any religious doctrine or rituals.
Satanism, particularly in its modern LaVeyan form, is an official religious ideology with its own set of beliefs and practices. It often uses satirical elements of ritual and symbolism but generally does not involve the literal worship of Satan as a deity. Instead, it promotes individualism, self-empowerment, and skepticism.
Therefore, equating atheism with Satanism is a misconception, as atheism involves no ritualistic practices, beliefs, or worship of any kind.
Idk about that. There's like a billion people in China and it's been pushing atheism hard. Also Japan.
Most ones on the English speaking internet are from Christian countries though.
Why are Western atheists so fixed on Christianity?
Why are most scissors right handed?
Why are there only bathrooms for two genders?
Why do they sell shoes in pairs?
Why aren’t there more parking spaces for fire trucks?
Why do people only buy one airline ticket for themselves?
Great questions, anon.
He's directly relevant to the conversation, was the leader of the atheist movement for years, and you know who he is and have thought about him. After this conversation ends, I won't think about you at all.
Now either refute this or fuck off.
No, he was the head of tons of atheist sleeper cells who were just waiting to kill every Christian the moment he used the signal. And the signal was putting a banana in his ass.
That's because Islam is currently the world's greatest source of evil, whereas Judaism is virtually harmless
... in the world of reality where your paranoid Jew-hating fantasies don't exist

As the atheist who wrote the comment you replied to, criticism of Islam would be the same basic flavor as Judaism or Christianity with just a little dash of seasoning similar to Mormonism and some fundamentalist sects.
For what little time I spend thinking about the main recipe, much less a specific blend of herbs and spices, what I waste on other faiths is proportionate to how much I encounter or even know about them. Maybe Sikhism is cool but I don’t know the first thing about it and I’m neither Canadian nor a truck driver.
I once knew an atheist that was chill with Christianity since he thought the moral compass it gave society was "worth the lie", but conversely he hated Muslims and Jews because he disagreed with their moral compass and thus thought they didn't serve any purpose other than conflict.
I was seriously about to give up the internet forever after reading this comment, then I realized the last thing I read would have been "sweet yummy daddy cummies."
Christians: Keep to themselves (❌), Kill you for disagreeing (❌)
Muslims: Keep to themselves (✅), Kill you for disagreeing (✅)
Jews: Keep to themselves (❌), Kill you for disagreeing (✅)
Buddhists: Keep to themselves (✅), Kill you for disagreeing (❌)
Or imagine if they read literally any of the Talmud and begun to criticize it. That would be shut down QUICK!
I don't believe, but I won't call myself Atheist so I'm not associated with those felchers
Hey, grow a spine. Send me a video of you beating up someone, your face, and some identifiable piece of information on where you live. It doesn’t even need to be your name or anything like that, just what specific town you live in.
Also, yes, we should definitely beat up the “amoral nihilists”. They need to learn that it’s a sin not to stand up for fundamentalist beliefs that we are divinely appointed by god to physically attack others. 😆
it is fairly different. there is no belief in a “god”. its not nearly as extreme in its teachings as other religions, it’s more focused on the person practicing. I can educate you if you’d like.
Buddhism has tons of gods. It's different from monotheism, but so is every polytheistic religion. Quite a lot of religions don't have as big of a focus on any particular god, due to the more open ended nature. Because only in monotheism is it presented as a single overarching paradigm that defines everything.
Saying that it is not as extreme as other religions is also kind of imprecise. It's not like Christianity overtly calls for a ton of violence either. The violent content is extrapolated. Buddhism can't really be separated from karma, which all rationalizations aside is a form of the just world fallacy. And has been used as recently as world War ii by Japanese zen to justify intense violence.
I think because there's an overwhelming amount of Christian westerners that try to push their beliefs into politics and activity try to get people to convert
Hear me out I like the idea that god is real but I get the feeling the Bible has been fixed up to fit narratives just like rumors or stories they get altered as history and those in charge see fit
The public intellectual tier of atheists would all likely name Islam as the greatest cultural threat to global order. Youtube neckbeards might be more about bashing the stupid American Christianity they grew up with.
Not really. You could maybe argue that this is true about taoism and confucianism, at least the first started, but buddhism was always heavily doctrinal focused.
Your profile pic and your comment makes it sound like you're not criticizing the religion but attacking people through stereotypes.
That being said, I don't think Islam should exist, just like Christianity, Judaism or any other thing where a dusty old book makes billions of people do things without questioning them.
I think religion served/serves as a uniting force that keeps societies together. If it came down to getting rid of a religion, Islam really has nothing worth keeping in the modern day as western ideals of democracy and whatnot are developed off Christian ideals even they are divergent nowadays and Islamic ideals have led to in the modern day just militancy and repression as their major effects on the world. I think having fanatics being part of religions rather than ideology/nationalism and maintaining strong separation of religion and state is a good idea.
Christianity didn't invent morals. And there are plenty of ideals from the Bible that have no place in modern society either. As I said, Christianity doesn't come out a whole lot better than Islam.
Fair, I still believe some religion should be present in modern society, maybe an eastern philosophy-religion could work, but I don’t have the best opinion on China and Korea where they had a strong effect.
It would definitely be bad for religion to just disappear in the state it is now. But rapidly losing popularity would be good all together.
I don't think there is anything in the big religions that is needed to keep society together. Buddhism can stay as far as I'm concerned because it doesn't involve all this believing and dictating but is more about improving oneself.
\>judaism
woah there you cant say that, we're all atheists but everyone knows that atheism = hate and mock christians, were not nazis or islamophobes over here, im gonna have to report you for hate speech
>be mutt
>fellow mutt complains about the dominant religion in your country
>"hurr, you're obsessed with christianity"
They're not going to say all that much about Shinto, are they? Because they don't live in a country where where that is the norm.
i shit on the Abrahamic siamese tri-head equally and always have. too many preteen posts in here hysterical about the last thing they decided to ape off tucker (in the same cracking voice).
I’m telling you that above thing is absolutely wrong. I’m not an atheist but I have known a lot of atheists and they do not know the Bible. In fact, they sometimes keep it around as a joke, but they can’t ever be pressed to read it. Much less memorize it or go around quoting it is because that’s what obsessed Christians actually do. It would be sort of like anorexic women attending Weight Watchers. It’s something that they don’t need to do and will actually make them worse.
This is just not true. Christians get 10x the shit Muslims get.
Christianity is easy to criticise and shit on, because they're mostly pussies who will do nothing. Muslims will fucking murder you if you say Mohammed was pedo.
The people you see criticise Muslims are ex-faith practicing muslims, salty Christians and Indians.
The people you see criticise Christians are... Everyone, except Christians themselves.
Patriot Act wasn't a measure against Islam, it was a measure against terrorism. Though that was after the most infamous Islamic terrorist group. However, during Desert Storm and the Gulf War anti Islamic, anti Middle East sentiment did grow from the 90s onwards. Then again you even had things like Rajneeshpuram in the 80s. So the discourse around people hating on or showing support for Middle Easterners came well before the Patriot Act.
The anon is dumb. Atheists in Turkey and Uzbekistan badmouth islam routinely, and guess what, moslems in those countries bawww just like the dumbass poster "who don't atheists badmouth christianity, judaism, hinduism". Atheists in general don't care about what you believe in, they only react when believers come shoving their fantasies down our throats.
At least in the US, if Christians stopped trying to force their ideology into politics, schools, and everyone's lives, atheists would stop taking about them.
It’s simple anon. You don’t know any atheists from non Christian countries. Atheists tend to hate the dominant religion because it affects their life so much.
You’d probably hate Hinduism if you lived in India all your life since that religion deeply affects society at large even if you’re technically free to practice any religion you want.
Religious people who are cherry picking what rules they want to follow are annoying. It's equally annoying to see a muslim who drinks alcohol and is tattooed, but then talks about how eating pork is haram, or a christian that decides to attack gay people, while ignoring how Jesus said don't judge other people and be nice to each other. Jews are innocent though. They just wanna live in their underground tunnels with their bloody mattresses and nuke palestinians while begging every western country for money, while controlling the media.

The last sentence is so true. If all these people posting random "christianity owned" verses or whatever, would just spend a fraction of their devotion to actually understand what they posted (as in the general context, or terminology) they would see how ridiculous they look in the eyes of any christian who knows half a thing about the Bible. I have yet to see a single thing an atheist tried to own me with, that made me go like "oh you got a point there." it's always "have you even read the rest of the text?" or "do you even understand what kind of text this is?" or "do you even understand what that word meant in the time the text was written?"
The funniest thing to me is, when they bring up stuff from pop-culture and pretend it's what I believe in. Like that Saint Peter checks at the gate of heaven if we can enter. Or that Satan rules hell. Or that Joseph must have been pretty dumb to believe Mary spoke true, when in reality he didn't and it took an angel to come and convince him of it.
Can't really pretend like I know how ot is for everyone but I know I absolutly hated religion in my late teens and early 20's. I no longer do, grew up and gained some perspective.
I grew up in a highly religious christian houselhold, with one of the negative stereotypes of a father who used it to compensate for his 'sins' while refusing to grow as a person. It got bad. Pratical brainwashing to the point I was muttering matras under my breath well past dropping the faith in my mid 20's. Beatings and torture, I couldn't pick up a sketchbook until my late 20's withought feeling the ghost sensations of burning in my arms. And I was hardly the only one, arguably I got it easier. My sister was molested by my father on multiple occasions.
I was also gay, which my father hated once he found out. It took my mother taking the brunt to keep him from coming home and beating the ever loving fear of god into me the night he found out. I was told it was a sin, that god could 'remove all sin', and as one who, at the time, was truly fairhfull, I prayed, self flagulated out of guilt, and betated myself mentally as punishment. But no matter how much I prayed, I could never stop liking men, and had no intrest in woman. I eventually came to believe I must be a devil spawn in the body of a boy. What else would explain it? Why else would god no heed the desperation of his loved follower? Was I not worthy? Was their something wrong with me? There must be.
I'll stop there, it's enough to get the point across, if I kept going I'd write a short novel. Point being, I blamed religion for many of the hardships I grew up with.
But as I aged, I relized that some of the positove things I believe I never would have gained withought the positive side of my old religion. I knew amazing Christians, one of my best friends in my mid 20's was a Christian man and he was one of the best examples of a human being I ever had the pleasure of knowing. It wasn't the religion, it was the people that were the problem.
I eventually saw the same problems with other groups. Athiest, those who follow 'science' and their own morality. They all have groups that practice the same things, while putting the words of who, or what they proclaim on a pedastal akin to idol worship. Athiest being the topic here, I can't tell you how many athiest I've met who quote science, all while being the modern day equivalent of your grandparents believing the guy in the comercial wearing a docter's suit. They rarely understand what they're talking about, and quote faulty, questionable studies with utter faith. This is when I really started to relize that it was never religion that was the problem.
The ignorant and sinfull with rally behind any banner they can in order to justify their actions, that just seems to be the way it's always operated. Religion is just one of those options.
The last sentence is so true. If all these people posting random "christianity owned" verses or whatever, would just spend a fraction of their devotion to actually understanding what they posted (as in the general context, or terminology) they would see how ridiculous they look in the eyes of any christian who knows half a thing about the Bible.
Most atheists I have seen online don't even try to engage in any meaningful discussion, they just try to just look cool in front of their fellow atheist friends who likewise don't know the meaning of what was said. Basically a big circle jerk. Note that this does not apply to real life people I have talked to. (so far).

I mean its not that hard to understand christianity is/was the dominant culture here and people (rightfully or not) attribute view it as the cause of waht they consider negative aspects of SUSiety as a result.
Christianity is by far the more relevant problem in my life than jews and muslims combined. Jews are a tiny minority everywhere aside from Israel, which is not a country that affects my life. Of the three options, the muslim is by far the most likely to literally murder me, but that's not relevant to my life either, because I have no intention of ever going to a majority-muslim country.
I have every reason to think more about the rabid possum in my yard than about the bear miles away in the woods, even if it'd be way easier to deal with the possum.
> extreme hatred
Apathy speckled with bemused pity is not hatred.
> obsession
Lol nope. Only when it actively tries to insinuate it's stupid cultish bullshit into my affairs.
Atheists are not really a group and certainly not an organized one. It's just that the loudest on Reddit are the ex-Christian atheists who have turned against Christianity.
Simple. I live in a protestant area. The Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Sikhs and Hindus don't troop down from the local parish to hammer on my door at 9am on a weekend and ask if I've heard the good word. The day they do I'll tell them to fuck off as well.
You can have an imaginary friend if you like. Just don't expect me to take orders from him and he can't come into my house.
I know where you live, OP. Here's a picture of your house.
