I’m fine with this. That mall is dying. Walked through there a week ago and half the stores are empty. Mixed use is the hot item now and it’s seems like it is adding value to the areas around it on existing mixed use projects like legacy west.
Traffic is increasing in the metroplex in general regardless of what developments are built in the area.

Mixed use was a hot item from the dawn of civilization until the Great Depression, too.

explain?
iwentdwarfing@reddit
The only time in human history that people have lived significantly spatially apart from their places of work and shopping is roughly 1930 through now. Hence, mixed use was the default for most of human history.

I wonder how pissed the neighbors were when they built the Coliseum.
iwentdwarfing@reddit
Hah! Probably not pleased. Or maybe a few started selling souvenirs or other items from their front doors and turned it into a business

The first step of socialism are apartments, no individual responsibility, “shared” amenities and dependency on someone else. There is a reason why all the comunist countries took over houses, demolished them and built apartments. Don’t believe or argue, just go to Cuba or any current or former communist country and see for yourself.

Or we could start by passing laws that these investment banks and firms can’t buy single housing.
That would go a long way to start.

Where do we sign up to ban them!
SimilarMiddleFinger@reddit
They shouldn’t be allowed to invest in residential property period.

I agree, but good luck convincing a bunch of West Plano people to add apartments in their area. Most of them would rather deal with the urban decay of a dying mall than add a single apartment.

Better to offer condos for sale then apartments for rent. I hope they dont do that.
Badlands32@reddit
The missing middle. My bet is that the property is too expensive for the developer to have a large portion of condos.
Badlands32@reddit
Well luckily for us it seems like the convincing is already done. The developers have the entitlements.
I haven’t dug dee into any specifics of the PD yet but getting the zoning changed is the first and largest hurdle for Public outcry.

Can we please get some modern development in Central Plano please? We have tons of dying strip malls with low occupancy that could use this treatment as well. It seems like the city council only focuses on the West and the East.
chamoy_dealer@reddit
The first step to this is the new Collin Creek. The rest will follow
Badlands32@reddit
The city council focuses on where the developers bring them projects. This location right off DNT and George Bush is an easy sell.

The old Hollister is an art gallery, but they didn't change anything about the decor the the entrance design. It's across the hallway from a liquor "gifts" store.
Wild compared to the mid 2000's.

Does it still smell like Hollister?
